Champion your favourite obscure American scotch snuff!

I’ve commented before that a lot of the American scotches (and sweets, for that matter) are indistinguishable as far as I can tell and that there are probably more brands available today than is necessary. The most common response is that the only real difference is between companies, not brands. With that in mind, I was wondering if there are people out there who would really miss a particular brand of scotch snuff. I know there are champions of the following brands in this forum: Rooster - lots of people are attached to this one Bruton - many people think it’s too strong, but I’ve seen people defend it (me being one) and I know it has regular users here Square - I know of at least one square fiend on this board Starr - at least two snuffhouse users regularly recommend this one Navy Plain - one user relies on this as his main daily snuff W.E. Garrett - a common snuff with many fans Honest - from the recent thread (Honest vs. Garrett) it appears there are at least a few Honest lovers here Dental - a few fans have stated this to be a regular in their rotation So I will probably forget one or more, but the above list appears to leave out: Tops Ralph’s Standard Superior Railroad Mills Plain Again, out of curiosity–are there users out there who use the above five scotches on a daily or near-daily basis? How do you find it to be different from the others? I have all of them myself, but I can’t really tell the difference between most of them.

Three Thistles Strong is my fav. scotch and I use it or Square on a daily basis. I find Square has the best “classic” bbq scotch taste with a hell of a nic hit where Three Thistle Strong has more flavour, with a hell of a nic hit.

ah, I forgot that one! I knew I would miss one or two.

Honey Bee

Tube Rose is missing there, one really pleasant snuff.

Checkerberry. By a mile. I love the Scotches but Checkerberry is special.

As you know, I use Navy Plain all day every day, but when I want more smoke flavour I use Square. If I want a sweet I use Red Seal or Honeybee. Railroad mills plain is very similar to Navy Plain, but is missing a strange scent that sets the Navy apart from all others. I have some standard, but to me it is just a nicotine delivery device because to me it has no flavour at all. If you did away with any of the labels you would have a few old sods like me getting violent. They all have their fans.

Checkerberry is not a scotch. Anyway, I will champion Superior and Tops Mild of those who you say has no champion. In any case, I find that all the Scotches are unique although there are a few that are very close to each other.

I know Checkerberry isn’t a Scotch but it’s American. I suppose my favourite Scotch is Rooster.

Ok Xander, though I was already thinking of you with the Starr. I guess I can let you have three. And yes, I was definitely thinking of you, Nachman, with the Navy Plain but I didn’t want to name names. I didn’t include the sweets, checkerberry or maccoboy because I think they’re in separate classes. Well, the sweets are a class (to me) and checkberry and maccoboy are oddities. No champions for Standard, Ralph’s or Railroad Mills Plain?

I was the one who made the Honest vs Garrett post. I wound opening my Honest 5 oz Tumbler and I’m glad I took a chance on buying that much of a snuff I’ve never tried. Honest is great. It’s Garrett without the harshness that makes it difficult to use all day. I’m still new to snuff, but Honest is the best scotch I’ve tried.

I’m with n9inch, first choice 3 thistles plain, 2nd choice square. 3rd choice would probably be rooster.

Oh, wait. If can only champion three, I would keep Starr, but drop those two in lieu of Square and Three Thistle. However, I intend to keep both Superior and Tops replenished in my collection. Tops is more or less interchangeable with Dental though.

Three Thistle Strong calls me on a regular basis. I like the Honey Bee, but that may not be a scotch. Then, I’d have to say Rooster.

I use Railroad Mills Plain most every day right now. Not a huge fan of the smokey scotches, so I like the ones with a lighter touch to them- Railroad Mills, Navy Plain, Dental Mild. To me they’re mostly interchangeable, I’m not that picky with the scotches.

Garrett is my go to scotch. Bruton would be second.

Bruton. So good I’m scared it will be considered a narcotic someday. Wicked and wonderful. After that it would easily be either Railroad Mills Plain or Rooster (The Killer Cock)

I reckon Railroad Mills Plain is my favourite US scotch though Square is close behind.

Levi Garrett aged glass jars. I just started the first one and the second is already opened. Ten rusty old Bruton tins follow close behind making rappee and snus among other concoctions. I did learn about snuffing rust with one tin that got thrown into the bush. U.S. smokeless and Swisher Helme get honorable mention.

This thread has made me go back to some neglected members of my collection. I’m going give a shout-out to Conwood Peach. Not my favorite (they’ve been mentioned), but the only sweet I like, and I think it counts as a scotch.
