From my half year or so on the board, I have noticed strong supporters for the following sweets: -Honey Bee (probably the most popular, though there have been dissenters) -Tube Rose -Conwood Peach (I personally love dipping this one) -Three Thistle Sweet -Society That leaves quite a rainbow of sweet and/or fruit snuffs out there: -W.E. Garrett Sweet -RR Mills Sweet -Navy Sweet -Wild Cherry -Strawberry -Dixie -Tops Sweet -Dental Sweet -Carhart’s -Red Seal -Lorrilard Sweet -Devoe Sweet (still available but out of production) -Buttercup I personally find RR Mills, Honey Bee and Conwood Peach to be the best for oral use. I like Tops in the nose even though it is insanely sweet. Devoe Sweet feels to me like it’s got the most nicotine. Nasally I like Three Thistle and Tube Rose. Thoughts?
Honey bee and Red Seal are my favorite sweets. I dip and snuff both of them. It seems to me that Red Seal is Bruton Sweet.
+1 on Honey Bee and Red Seal. The Red Seal has the advantage of not being as sweet as other sweets. Honey Bee just tastes good.
Honeybee and Tube Rose.
Tube Rose and Honey Bee in that order
Honey Bee, Tube Rose and Railroad Mills Maccoboy
I won’t champion any, but there are a few that are not terrible: Tube Rose, Red Seal, Three Thistle, Stoker’s.
Tube Rose FTW…Peach Sweet is a VERY distant second!
I just received Railroad Mills sweet in a trade yesterday and Im digging it more than my We Garrett sweet!
Got quite a few in my stash but so far Honey Bee and Swisher Wild Cherry are my favorites…
@Jesu27 my local tobacconist carries this in their VERY limited selection. I’ve heard bad reviews, and have been afraid to try it. Based on your statement, I’ll give it a go. At around $3.00 a pop, I can’t really lose. Thanks for giving me the guts ta try it!!!
Wild Cherry is my girl. Otherwise, I don’t really like the sweets. Maybe some other time.
Peach is delicious in the nose and the lip. I used to like Honey Bee but ended up oversnuffing and it no longer agrees with me.
About the only one I can stand is WE Garrett Sweet. Honey Bee is way too sweet for me and Red Seal has that USST funk smell that just puts me off when combined with sweetness. I haven’t tried others because they are just not my thing…I think they taste bizarre on a good day and revolting most of the time, when I’ve tried to dip them.
After less than a week of snuffing, I’ve gone a bit bonkers for the Peach Sweet. I have a couple of other sweets from my 1st order, but I’ve yet to try them.
Thoughts: Society, Buttercup, and Tops are the extremes in my opinion. Carhart, HoneyBee, Red Seal, all solid, take a pinch anytime sweets. For the fruit iterations, some people taste it, I personally do not. WE Garrett was my first, and will always have it’s place. Lorrilards and Navy are just damn cool to look at the same with Tube Rose. With Dixie, well it’s Dixie. I received a package from Tom a couple years ago during winter. It had the Sampler Sweets in the cute little smashboxes. I tapped out six specks the size of sissy pinches on a cd case (yes before the Ipods, we had cd’s), colder than a penguin’s… from being in the mailbox part of the night, I tasted sweets in a different way. Changes it, cause I tried it room temperature the next day and like I said, changes it.
I thought Buttercup was great as a dip. But I have quit oral tobacco.
Dental Sweet. But then I havent’ tried many more other than Buttercup and Dixie. The Dental reminds me drinking sweet tea in a hay loft. I always mix it with a higher nic snuff though.
For some reason lately, I haven’t been able to snuff ANY sweets…they’ve started to taste way to sweet to me, and make my stomach hurt…almost to the point of that ‘too much halloween candy’ feeling!
How do you dip it ? I tried it a few times but was not sure of doing it right. I just took a fair ammount with the fingers and put it behind the lip - like i do with regular dip. I heard several times about the style of mostly older ladies in the south who use a hickorey stick - anyone can enlight me on this ??? I am a huge fan of american tobacco in general and scotch snuff in special.
different people have different techniques. I pour a little pile (one inch long by a half-inch or so and a half-inch high) into the lid, pull the lower lip forward with thumb anf forefinger and pour it in. I then use the end of my tongue as a shovel to get it into a little pack–don’t let it get on top of the tongue. spit as needed.
i see, i will have a try with that - NOW
Tube Rose is great and Navy Sweet is good too, others I’ve tried are way too sweet.
Can I champion them all? I revise my earlier post, they all rock! I’ve turned in to US snuff fanatic. Can’t leave them alone. Love them all, sweet, plain, mild, I don’t care.
@ OscarWabbit Here here! I stopped by JR Cigar this weekend and bought some Tube Rose, Buttercup, Honey Bee, and Navey Sweet. I like them all! Good to know about the domestic snuff and I’m adding it to my daily rotation of snuffing.
tube rose has become my daily so i guess that would be it!
I did notice a price increase. Friday, I bought two 4.65 oz cans for $12.50 each, and on Sunday, same store, was charging $14.00 for the same cans of snuff.
@OscarWabbit: I think your comment is rather bad form. Mr Snuff has relocated to the UK and so I would expect that the prices of his US snuffs reflect the higher import overheads. He is a stout supporter of this forum and has always done his best to supply us with The Devil’s Dust at as reasonable a price as he himself can afford to sell it. You can always buy elsewhere if you feel the prices are too high, but attacks on a man’s business practices are to my mind uncalled for.
I have deleted the last two comments by OW. Consider yourself warned, one more time and you will be banned.
$7 works out at about £4.30 at the moment, and if you think 25g tins of British made snuff can be up to £3.50ish, then £4.30 for something that weighs more and hes had to import and pay more tax on isnt that bad. I have to concur with toffeenose that this isnt really the place for such comments. Im sure if you contacted Dave through his site he’d be happy to discuss it with you. Edit: this refers to the deleted comments, please ignore.
Dave has to pay a ton of taxes when he imports from the US. The profit he makes is a joke.
I apologise. I’ve never seen in the rules that critcising a vendor’s prices are a bannable offence.
You still don’t get it, do you?
@OW: It’s not. Making unfounded and slanderous remarks about a fellow member (and sponsor) of our community however, is. Rudeness is never an attractive quality anywhere.
Yes, I do get it now and I see the error of my ways. Your post, Stokes, which I read through my email as you deleted the thread (thankfully) clarified the situation and I apologize unreservedly for what I said. I was indeed speaking out of ignorance.
It is best to know the full circumstances of a situation before you speak out of place. Dave does not deserve such remarks.
You’re right. Sorry.
I’m STILL waiting for the first-ever American SP
