Chaini Khaini is widely available outside India in the UK, where it is sold under the counter, and can be procured online in the USA. This Indian product is misleadingly marketed as snus. It does look like mini portions of snus, but is manufactured in a different manner, contains different ingredients and is much more hazardous to health than the famous Swedish product.
Nicotine-wise it’s close to maklas, just a tad milder. It has a sharp burn and leaves strong aftertaste of the slaked lime in the mouth. Remarkably, there’s a weird odour, really strong and penetrating one, which stays in the room for long after opening the sachet. My kid smelt it in the air and accused me of not sharing the Coke with him, but my very scent-sensitive mother was disgusted by the “uknown strange pong” lingering in the house. I wouldn’t call this aroma a “cola”, but there’s some vibe of that scent.
Regretably, despite the attractive price, convenient format and high content of unprotonated nicotine (95% of total nicotine), the report concludes that Chaini Khaini contains very high levels of carcinogenic nitrosamines.

Chaini Khaini in comparison to a proper mini portion snus.
