How efficiently CBD can be absorbed by the nose? That is the question…
Usually oils do not penetrate very well any type of skin or mucous.

You know, I’ve grown cannabis for a long time. I live in Colorado where it’s legal. I make salves, tinctures, infused oil, etc. I can’t possibly imagine taking cbd in the nose and getting any effect at all. I think it’s just a shot at the burgeoning market. In my town we have cbd cat anxiety drops, you can even get it at Walmart. I love McChrystals O and G, we have it locally. In fact it’s the only nasal snuff here! But cbd is over the top in my opinion.

I wonder if lecithin would increase or enable absorption.

Having no experience with pure CBD oil, I was wondering what 20 mg actually means and ran a quick search. The usual CBD oil dosage in various indications ranges from 1 to 20 mg 1-2 times a day. There’s a 2.28 mg of oil in 1 g of G&O, and such amount is capable of producing therapeutical effect. https://bluecloud.org/cbd-oil-dosage-explained/

@KebampIt Regarding absorption efficiency, oral mucosal absorption of CBD (tinctures) is a thing - sublingual administration is considered to be one of the most effective methods. Moreover, it is possible to convert CBD into water soluble form (mist) for nasal absorption http://www.nasadol.com/.

@mrmanos Sure, CBD is trendy nowadays. The first batch of G&O sold out flash-fast at snuffstore.de.

@rastanf Lecithin only works in your stomach, not the nose.

CBD has no effect on your senses, like thc does. I can’t really think of any possible reason to add it to snuff other than the fact that it’s very popular. I’ve made tinctures from pot I grew with a high level of cbd but never could detect anything mentally. If rubbed into the skin, yeah it helped soreness but no other effects.

@mrmanos I’m not entirely sure about lecithin absorption nasally but it is is used as a mucoadhesive in some nasal sprays. It is a surfactant and a phospholipid. Here’s an exerpt from a medical journal and a link with info on a nasal preparation with lecithin. “Surface active agents, or surfactants, are amphiphilic molecules possessing both lipophilic and hydrophilic residues. Surfactants have various applications in pulmonary drug administration, due to their high interfacial activity; one of which is as an absorption enhancer. Surfactants can enhance absorption with more than one mechanism; these include perturbing the cell membrane by leaching of membrane proteins, opening of tight junctions, or preventing enzymatic degradation of the drugs These surfactants are mainly used and studied in oral drug administration; however, there have been a few studies looking at their application in nasal and pulmonary drug delivery. Surfactants used as absorption enhancers can be classified as; (A) phospholipids, (B) bile salts, (such as sodium taurocholate etc.), (C) non-ionic surfactants, (D) salt of fatty acids, and (E) alkyl glycosides (e.g., tetradecylmaltoside, N-lauryl-b-d-maltopyranoside etc.)” https://www.hindawi.com/journals/ja/2014/146280/

Just FIY: “[…]CBD-drug interactions may be problematic in some cases. CBD and other plant cannabinoids can potentially interact with many pharmaceuticals by inhibiting the activity of cytochrome P450, a family of liver enzymes. This key enzyme group metabolizes most of the drugs we consume, including more than 60 percent of marketed meds.”

Sorry to revive the post, but I have to say that a can of O&G CBD arrived today and I’ve been testing it. I am a regular cannabis and hash user, and recently had the opportunity to smoke very low THC cannabis, officially almost pure CBD cannabis, and noticed something. The effect is relaxing on the body, but also on the mind, it feels a bit cloudy. Now, the O&G CBD manages to relax me, and not only that, it even manages to give me a slight dizziness. It’s funny because I have a very high tolerance to the effects of cannabis, as well as nicotine, but this tobacco manages to make me feel for a moment in a way that I have not felt before. It is not a mental effect, that is, I am not referring at all to the typical effect of being high, but to a slight fatigue (or mental and physical relaxation) I will continue testing and contrasting experiences.

I’ve thought about trying this but don’t know if it’d be seized before it got to me.  Has anybody in North America ever ordered and received CBD snuffs?

Yeah, I received mine sometime last year. No issues. Dallas, Ft Worth

I bought some from Toque. Havent tried McChrystals product but from what i understand it is not as strong. You shouldnt have any problems as Hemp derived CBD has been nationally legalized. Only thing it does for me is make me drowsy and relaxed in general. I typically took a few pinches at night before bed and definately got to sleep faster than usual. Localized effects are anti inflammatory so it helped a little with congestion also.

This is My first review I’ve written. So ….of course I’ve had good and bad snuff over 15 years of snuffige but I’ve never been so let down . I really like the guy (simply snuff) that does the snuff reviews but I think he was trying the old mix because he said tobacco and nicotine of which this has none, and menthol that is none existent and his was brown not like this crap. Now I wasn’t expecting a buzz or anything like that (of which you won’t get as it’s cbd not thc )but I was hoping for a tobacco free O&G’ish product. Hell no . It smells like hay, likes as in a horse stable. No other smell , no menthol no nothing but nasty old hay. Please do your self a favor and pass on this unless you grew up shoveling hay with a hint of horse crap and miss it . Just to be sure I just did another bump… Hay . It’s also green, like green 3 day old cut grass and dry as my lawn in the summer. Sorry McChrystals you still have my number 1 favorite but now also my least favorite.

@Chain The snuff you saw on Simply snuff was “McCrystals O&G CBD” which was identical to McCrystals O&G with just the addition of CBD in it. It was tobacco snuff menthol camphor like O&G plus CBD in it. It was the first snuff with CBD in it. Never tried it because of it being identical to O&G and me having lot of the O&G at the moment it came to the market.

The stuff you purchased is “McCrystals Hemp snuff” (No tobacco, no nicotine, just hemp blended with Original & Genuine flavour) so thats why its green powder. It is hemp snuff and not tobacco snuff with cbd oil in (like their first ever cbd snuff was).

Seems like the old McCrystals CBD snuff (tobacco snuff with cbd oil or crystals in it) is not on sales now and they replace it with the Mcrystals Hemp Snuff (non tobacco, ground hemp).

So hemp snuff is simply decarboxylated hemp bud finely ground up?

And CBD snuff is where they’ve somehow infused the tobacco with CBD? I’d like to know the technique, although I’m more interested in infusing CBD’s first cousin (legal where I live) since it’s fat soluble, not water soluble. Perhaps they strip it into ethanol and use the tincture to infuse the tobacco?

Anyone played around with this?

@mecompco yes CBD snuff used to be tobacco with added cbd oil/ crystals into it. Basically it was a hemp spliff lol.

Now the hempsnuff is pure hemp but i dont have a clue if it is decarboxylated or toasted or just simply ground up hemp.

Yes the THC snuff is something that if someone wont experiment by making one we would never know if it works. If I got the materials and the time to start experiment with it I will first just create a coarse tobacco snuff and then add some THC butter into it making it like a Schmalzler type. So you have to keep the snuff in the nose for like 15-20 minutes and then start to see if the THC hits you after like 30-40 minutes or so. I think but i am not sure that the effects would start 30-40mins after the pinch like edibles work. Also the tincture infuse to tobacco snuff might work.

If nobody will experiment with these we will never know.
Personally I cant do that because it is illegal where I live and also because I dont use thc anymore.

P.S. If someone is going to try the thc-butter Schmalzler type of snuff, make only a one or two days worth of it to avoid spoiling.

Thank you for the detailed response. Depending upon the heat and duration of the “toasting”, that would decarb the herb, although perhaps too much? I’ll have to do some research, but I’m assuming that CBD is similar to THC as it requires heat to activate it (actually turning the native THCA (acid) into THC). Of course this happens spontaneously if the herb is smoked.

From my research (based on Israeli studies as the US is stupid), the max potency of THC is reached at 250 degrees. Anything over this starts reducing the potency. I personally decarb at 240 F for an hour to make my wife’s medicinal infused coconut oil.

I suppose an experiment would be to try mixing some plain Madras snuff with a little infused coconut oil (organic refined is what I prefer for little to no coconut flavor). I’m not sure how this would dry for a comfortably “snuffable” product.

I think I also have a little tincture in the freezer, basically decarbed herb soaking in 180 proof ethanol. That might work better as the alcohol will basically evaporate after mixing in some snuff.

Perhaps I’ll find the ambition to try this and report back.

PS I do have a tin of McChrystal’s Hemp in my Mr. Snuff cart for the next order, just to try it.
