Id like to start this thread by pointing out that I really hated this snuff up untill a few hours ago lol. It all began about a year ago when I started using snuff. I wanted to quit smoking and discovered snuff on the web, I poked around and foud the local market actually had a pretty good selection of American snuffs. I thought, “what the hell” and bought Conwoods Peach and Carharts sweet scotch. The peach was O K, more like peach skin or something and it burned, but I liked it. The Carhart’s on the other hand, woo mama. It kicked my ass, I hated it. I tried it a few more times, and I just couldnt do it. Fast forward to about 4-5 hours ago. I was digging around in my semi-impressive collection of snuffs from around the globe, I wanted something different, and yet kind of plain. So I blew the dust of my Carharts and gave it a blast. I love it lmao! I guess I’ve grown up a little, and I am glad I revisited this snuff. Its good, it packs a punch, I could see myself using this regularly and its avaiable locally. Its actually got me thinking about grabing a few other local scotches and giving them a go. Any suggestions? Sorry about the novel I just wrote but free time and good snuff will do that to you…
I tried Navy Plain as my first American Scotch and thought it smelled like cat pee. I now use it every day and have eight more cans when I finish this one. Navy Plain is just that, plain tobacco with a little ammonia and a little smoke flavour. Garrett snuff is a lot smokier. Three Thistles is somewhere between the two in smoke, but a lot stronger. Red Seal is a sweet snuff with little smoke but it can burn; it clears the sinuses. Rooster has a reputation for being strong, but it is not nearly as strong as Three Thistles Strong to me. Honest Scotch is the smokiest I have tried, but is easy on the nose.
Carhart’s has a similar flavor to the others of the US Smokeless family which to me, seem the strongest of the three big US companies. If you like the sweets grab a can or two of DeVoe before they are gone forever and try Red Seal too. Of the others (Bruton, Rooster and Standard) all are pretty rich, and have a good bite, but Bruton is wickedly strong. I think Bruton sacrifices too much flavor in favor of strength, so I’ll probably not get it again. The other two are good though.
Well, thank you both for your response. I got the day off today so Im going to go around and see whats available for snuff. My list of potentials: Rooster Railroad Mills Plain Honest Scotch Three Thistle Strong Navy Scotch Square Plain Im looking for unsweet scotch, I want to try a plain. Ill probably only get one though, if memory serves me, these are aound $8 per can Ive really got my eye out for Railroad Mills plain.
I’m somewhat slightly interested in the: Standard Scotch Snuff At my local grocery they are $4 something a can.
Your lucky! $4 is almost as cheap Nicotine Rush. I called around and I guess the cans are between $6-7 dollars, which is high but wont break the bank. I might have to go with a sweet as Im pretty sure no where has a plain.
