Can't open Viking tin

I have a 25g tin of Viking Dark. I can’t get it open. The top does not come off like it would on a tin of Taxi even if I use more force than I think I can safely use without spilling half the snuff when it pops open. It also won’t twist off like the top of a Toque tin.

Am I missing something?

It is vacumn sealed, use a coin and gently pry of the top.

Thanks very much.

Just had a nearly identical question a couple weeks ago: http://snuffhouse.org/discussion/6214/viking-tins#latest I take the flathead screwdriver in my Swiss army knife, position it horizontally at right angles under the lid in the groove and twist towards a vertical position. I rotate the tin 90 degrees and do the same. The lid should pop right up. This question gets asked so often, I want to make an appeal to snuffhouse members who have youtube skills. Please make us a video showing how to do this, and we will post in in the FAQ section.

I will try the screwdriver suggestion because no U.S. Coin works (at least anything smaller than a 50 cent piece, which I dont have on hand). I hate to damage the tin though, because I collect them, but better to try the snuff than let it sit unused. I can transfer it to another container if necessary. Thanks for,the help.

I used a large,  flat blade screw driver to get my tins open.

Or try a regular house key, you just use the thinner part to wedge it open, you need only figure out the right angle and twist, repeat if necessary. The beauty is, who doesn’t have a key on hand?

If you do it riight, it won’t damage the tin.

your teeth might work. no don’t try that.

Got it open. Thanks.

Why does this question always come up? They are pretty easy to open.

yep easy to open useing a jaws of life set up or a big sledge hammer.

How easy it is to open probably varies a bit. J&H Wilsons tins have the twisty coin lids too, I’ve had a fair few of those, and sometimes it just takes a couple of seconds to pry open, whereas other times it takes an ice age and a gallon of sweat!

I use my czech tool. It a very common pipe smokers tool and is used as a tamping tool; There is also a spoon you could utilize for filling boxes and bullets or just as a snuff spoon and the poker .The tamper part works great just slide under lid to release the vacuum. A slight pry or twist is often in order. Then of course transfer the contents into a glass jar of your choosing .I like to heat the bottom of lid with a lighter for about ten seconds at the warning label then peel , trim and stick to the glass jar. These pictured are 4 oz they easily hold 50 + grams without packing tight could hold 100 grams if packed tight. I suggest to buy several hundred of these to store your ever growing collection.

next time any of you have trouble, mail me the tin and I will open it for ya

I use a nickle. Works for me, but can sometime take some effort and cursing.
