Can't keep it in long enough

I know there’s a lot of posts about blowing, but I couldn’t find this specific problem. I just got some Toque Spanish Gem, Quit, and Natural Toast. I don’t smoke or chew, and never really got a nicotine buzz off of Gawith Apricot or Ozona Mint or Cherry. I’m still not getting a buzz off of Quit or SG, haven’t tried the Natural Toast yet, but I’m definitely taking enough of it (tried a little, and gradually moved to a lot). The problem is this dry Toque makes my nose fill with mucus, and I have to blow within a few minutes, and it seems like most of it comes out. So I put more in, but same thing. I’m thinking maybe I don’t feel the nicotine because I can’t keep it in long enough? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Try some Viagra.

That’ll keep it up, but will it stay in?

Most snuffs do not give me a buzz. Only a few do that. Most snuffs provide a nice lift though. Some like Quit, an intense lift. If you want to expericene a buzz (which I think of as a nicotine sensation lasting longer than 30 seconds) You should try some moister snuffs. F&T Princes and Santo Domingo would be good ones to start with. Also if you are new to nicotine, your dopamine recpetors have not yet learned to respond to it. The nose itself must also becomed accustomed to the presence of a foreign body. Runny nose is part of the game. Try using smaller pinches to prevent running. Don’t worry about nicotine so much.

Hedges L260 gives me a pretty heavy nicotine buzz

@Chris, it mainly depends on the other party.

I would try a bungee-cord. Once your in, take the cord off 'er. That creates a vacuum…

Hmm. Depends what you are after. I don’t find any of my snuff faves give me a buzz ( unless I massively overdo it) Taxi red did, actually mAkes me feel sick! But speaking personally, I think snuff is more of a subtle lift. Not that obvious. Much more a relaxing buzz if you like not sure therefore if your prob is one of technique ( try medium pinches and try to keep in the front / middle part of nose) or that you are not being satisfied some noses are more prone to reaction to more snuffs. Try more styles!

@martyrau, you should practice to hold it in for longer before you blow. If you blow to soon, you will not enjoy it and maybe stop doing it all together. Practice makes perfect.

well thanks for the responses…not sure what that viagra comment was about. keeping it up? har har. I just assumed that since Quit advertises as a high nicotine snuff I would feel something. Even when it stays “up” (my nose) it just doesn’t do much. And I’d assume I’m not immune to nicotine since a cig or dip will do something. I just don’t like the dirty/unhealthy aspects of them.

Well, give yourself time to acclimate to the different style of tobacco. I rarely feel the sudden jolt I used to get from cigs when I use snuff…

I smoked 30 cigs a day b4 quitting. Years back it was 40 Marlboro reds, so I know about nicotine. Seriously, snuff is a very different, restrained and subtle animal. In my view it did not for me ever replace ciggie buzz. But then, I chose to give up fags already, and snuff was nice diversion only as I chose not to use nasty patches and gums. But important to realise it isn’t a like for like substitute, but it is it’s own seperate, enjoyable thing. Stop looking for the hit and enjoy the flavour

Snuff takes practice. Fake it 'til you make it. You will be rewarded for your effort.

@wildhorsemane: “Fake it 'til you make it” is an AA quote??

I usually stick to toasts because of the initial “lift” although, I wouldn’t call it a “buzz.” However to martyrau’s original question: I almost always have to blow within 5-7 minutes of taking a pinch. My nose reacts to snuff by simply turing on the mucus faucet, and I suspect this is what is happening to you. I don’t let it interfere with my snuffing, in fact the blow is an enjoyable part of snuffing for me (I go through a lot of tissue!). I just have to recognize that I can’t take a snuff right before I go into a meeting, or i will need to blow brown residue in front of my collegues - not something I want to do. If I want to settle into a frequent snuffing session in the evening, I will take snuff and let my nose do its thing. Then blow. Then its on… I will immediately take another snuff and wait about 3 minutes before a second pinch to top it off. Then the blow sensation will come on a few minutes later. I will expectorate, and then its back to a pinch, wait a few min, then top off, then blow a few min later. I have gotten used to the routine and I can measure how much fun I had the night before by observing how full my trash can is with tissues in the morning. All in all, blowing after snuffing is normal (although you and I may have more of an issue with extra drainage). Good luck to you!

I too have a sensitive nose. I have found that the Toque fruit flavors do not result in faucet on. Pomegranate, raspberry, even rose, I can take and take between nose blows. Also Grunt and Sparrow sit pretty. Most scotches cost me an urgent blowout after several minutes, but after that, the nose is clear as a bell. Sometimes I will sit and take about 7-10 pinches, maybe a gram of Rooster, and it will give a good buzz, and after one blow, all is well. The biggest nic buzz I have gotten from snuff, is from Cotton Boll, home-ground. It is, as Pieter would say, a rough-neck snuff, and causes me some serious nose-blowing. I only take it once in a while at home, but it sure hits hard. Cheers!
