The first impression upon opening the tin is good: the grind is between fine and coarse, but fluffy, slightly moist, so much as to make it clump slightly, but not too much. The texture is a rich semi-dark brown. The aroma is unmistakably camphor and clove allright, no cutting corners here. It is almost strong enough to obscure the tobacco, which appears to be the usual Toque base - excellent in itself. It is surprising how well the smells of camphor and clove blend in, to provide a cool and pleasantly medicinal aroma, that lingers for a long, long time. It will not send your nose running, but there’s no clogging either. Camphor & Clove, though not an all-day type of snuff, is very well suited for a wake-up pinch, or for moments where a little concentration and collectedness is required. It is relaxing and reviving at the same time. It’s good to know that both camphor and clove have mild (local) anaesthetic properties, which makes Camphor & Clove a real treasure in case of the common cold. I’ve been waiting for a while to stress test it, and I must say it holds out remarkably well. It can be used to mitigate the effects of the cold itself, or to soothe the panicking mucous membranes after an onslaught of more vicious stuff, such as Hedges L260. In both cases it cools down aching noses almost immediately, and I highly recommend a whiff of Camphor & Clove just before you go to bed with a cold. You will sleep the better for it. (Don’t forget the hot lemon grog, ginger tea and Tiger Balm.) Four out of five I say. Not because it isn’t an excellent snuff (it is), but because there are so many more excellent snuffs out there.
Camphor and Clove is awesome. The camphor has a cooling effect, almost menthol-like, and the clove makes my nose numb. It does make my nose run slightly. This will probably replace WoS Royal George as my bedtime pinch. I actually get no tobacco sent from this whatsoever, which is ok. I really, really like this one. 5/5 for me.
Sounds good will have to try this i used to love clove rock and im a big fan of camphor so i think il like this snuff
Camphor and clove is a great snuff. I also use it when i m congested from other snuffs. Nevertheless, this makes me a bit skeptic on how much I should sniff that one. http://www.livestrong.com/article/178693-the-toxicity-of-clove-oil/ Toxicity According to Castleman, clove oil contains a compound called eugenol, which is thought to promote the growth of cancerous tumors. Eugenol and other compounds in clove oil may also be toxic to the skin, causing irritation to the skin and mucous membranes. Clove oil may also promote dermatitis, Lawless says.
I love everything about C&C except the grind, I’m not a big fan of Toques coarse grind and I have to sift them several times to get all those flecks out.
It’s not really a snuff that impresses me in any way, and it is what I would call low on nicotine (nothing wrong with a bigger pinch though). The fragrance, though far from delicious - is at least pleasant and the snuff in itself seems to be very easy going. No runs, no clogging, definitely a great snuff to have on hand when being out and about and presentable around people without clinging to the handkerchief. I love the grind, coarse, so clean and tidy and easy to take. No mess. First days impressions…
