Can you get cancer from it or no? I have read many and I mean many different articles on this. Some saying no cancer case has been found in snus and others say snus rhymes with noose for a reason. What are your thoughts as mouth cancer freaks me out but would love to snus when needed. I noticed little small bumps on top gums and only have been doing it for a week. I have never looked at top gums before this though lol. I’m a paranoid idiot I know.
The nausea induced by the taste of Camel snus will kill you long before you get cancer. Seriously, though, Camel snus are said to be as low in TSNAs as are real (i.e. Swedish) snus. I would worry more about what the artificial sweeteners in Camel snus are doing to your health. You’d be better off in every way if you switched to Swedish snus: better flavor, quality tobacco, made to Gothia Tek-standards, ingredients fully disclosed, no artificial sweeteners or other unknown dodgy crap, more nicotine, better price, and so forth.
Thank you sir. I am paranoid of anything dealing with oral cancer but am more paranoid of going back to smoking. I am going on 2 weeks and doing everything I can. Just ordered 12 tins of snuff but like the snus as well. Thanx again as every1 here is helpful and not judgemental.
@bigblue1- Awesome for the site. I even had my wife hide the snus but found it within a minute lol. I now have one packet on each side. I don’t think I’ll do this long term but for now oh well. It also causes heartburn. Would love just to snuff and think thats the road I am heading.
As bad as the Camel snus is, Marlboro snus is worse.
true. Your chances of oral cancer with any smokeless product are pretty low. However with snus it’s really low. I’ve had an anti tobacco person (still pro harm reduction) put it this way research indicates it “may” cause cancer. Where with cigs it’s definatly causes cancer. That wasn’t even for snus which is definatly much safer then other oral tobaccos. The biggest increase in cancers with mouth tobacco seems to be pancriatic cancer, how often do you hear about that one. It seems as if a lot of the causes of oral cancer aren’t very well understood honestly. It even seems like some people are really destined to have oral cancer. I would say regular snus is much more enjoyable and relatively safe. also that’s an awesome pic by the way whizzle.
The increase of pancreatic cancer is about 1/2 of the risk of it using cigarettes. Everyone jumps on the smokeless increase without saying it’s less than smoking. Also oral cancers are much more prevalent in smokers than in smokeless users, even factoring in American style smokeless.
Cancer seems to me, to be more genetic disposition. People get throat cancer, and lung cancer, and pancreatic cancer, and never have used smokeless tobacco, or smoked. You might get it, you might not, irregardless if you do any of these things or not. I personally, tend to think diet and genetics play a bigger role than using tobacco, but smoking would be the worst activity to create a higher possibility.
Whiz, I don’t think you’re paranoid, you’re prudent. I second kjoe, I have been using the Swedish snus lately, there’s no going back once you’ve had the real thing! I can’t recall the last time I had a cigarette and I haven’t officially quit, I just get my nicotine from more enjoyable sources now.
They taught us in some stupid health class we had to take in college (after preaching the dangers of tobacco and how you will get whole-body cancer if you so much as think about using any kind) that cancer is completely random…someone with a perfect diet, no alcohol, no baccy, no family history, who lives in the mountains breathing clean air and exercising all the time, can still get any cancer and die. So I chose to use tobacco, because in the end, I’m going to die from something, I just prefer healthier tobacco products (as opposed to cigarettes) as having COPD is no way to live, especially in the end of your life. But then again, back to the randomness, I work with men who smoked 2 to 3 packs a day for 50 years and can breath just fine, and I also work with people who quit 50 years ago, but now have such terrible COPD they can’t stand up without being winded… though this example isn’t cancer patients,I think this just goes to show how blown-out of proportion this carcinogens in tobacco and cancer really is–though there is no reason not to be prudent–like I said even I try not to smoke anymore, and I don’t particularly believe all the hype about cancer and whatnot. I’m going to second tom502, diet and genetics, and add that a great big roll of the cosmic dice has just as much to do with cancer as anything else. *Disclaimer* Of course, I’m not a doctor, just a med nurse who believes strongly in ^^^^ this stuff^^^^ I just said, so don’t take my word as truth. whew, long winded, apologies. Yeah, camel snus is pretty horrid. Time for another pinch!
The only problems really certainly associated with snus is gum shrinkage and gum sores but, keep swapping the spot where you put your portion, you should go a long way to avoiding that situation. By the way, I hear that the term ‘‘snus’’ is a bit of a misnomer when it comes to that particular Camel product. Try the real thing.
Has anyone seen the new ads for Camel dip (3 flavors: Wintergreen longcut, Rich and bold natural, and Wintergreen pouches)? Based on my experiences with Camel snus I’m not expecting much, but I’ll give it a try if they send me some coupons.
American snus and all other fake and crappy snus is not only inefective but it is also much worse for you than the real deal, so if you wanna snus then order yourself a roll of General
