Calling all Oregon beer drinkers

S

I live in Beaverton, OR and I like beer. I read on various forums about so many outstanding beers and I’m just puzzled. I find the Sierra Nevada ales, black butte porter, fat tire, and heineken the only beers I buy. Once in a while I’ll buy a MCCtarnahans but feel I must be missing out on good beer. I love the above beers but was wondering if their are any other Oregonians who have a favorite spot to buy their beer. I do like the Mcmenamins brews but only visit occasionally.

I want to move to OR eventualy. Not happening till I get out of school. I do know OR is a beer state. Isn’t Portland called Beer Town or something like that?

PM sent.

I don’t know…

I admit it, I am not a beer fanatic but I just had a Pyramid Apricot beer tonight and thought it was delicious! I think that is a pnw beer?? I’ve had a few apricot beers but this one was the most flavorful one I’ve had…definitely worth checking out. BTW, I am not in OR but close enough…just south of Seattle

B

I’m in PDX.

Of the locals I would make sure to try anything from Rogue except for maybe the Pilsner, and that mainly because I don’t think it’s worth spending much on pils. Deschutes has a wonderful stout, Obsydian, and their Mirror Pond is a total staple that even 7-11 stocks. I find McTarnahans and Bridgeport sort of generic but they are decent and usually on sale at Plad Pantry. HUB has a nice bar in SE Portland and they make a mean bitter.

As for CA brews, and apart from the Sierras (all good, all easy to find), Anchor Steam is pretty unique and I would certainly give it a try. Everything Firestone brews is excellent, specially the Double Ale. Boont, Racer 5, the Lagunitas IPAs and Untouchable are also big favorites of mine.

In the East Coast, Victory rules supreme.

Also I would visit Tobacco Town on 8200 Southwest Barbur Boulevard. Despite the name, they sell mainly beer and wine. Their walk-in fridge needs to be seen to be believed. All sorts of micros and imports, including lots of very nice English ales. They even sell snuff in their tobacco half!

S

Really, I bought some cigarette tobacco there a few years back. I never thought about snuff, but I’ll check it out. I’m assuming it’s the silver dollar lineup? Beer and snuff, sounds like a good trip to be made.

B

I’m not sure about Silver Dollar. They had the Garretts (including the Levi plastic bottles), Ozona, a few Wilsons in the small tins, and probably something else I can’t remember. They also have all sorts of plugs and chewing tobacco if you are into that sort of thing.

Portland Brewing Co as well as Burnside Brewing have kick ass beers born and raised in Portland hit me up and have a beer and a snuff together

B

Lompoc is my favorite brewery in Portland. There are a few locations in the Portland area. I have only been to their location in North Portland on Williams. I have also seen their beer in several stores in town.
