I’m just wondering , is there any caffeinated snuff out there? And if not , could some be made ? I’m looking at you Roderick! It would be great to have two of my favorite stimulants in one thing, nicotine and caffeine.
That would be pretty cool. Some snus does it, why not snuff too?
An energy snuffs a great idea, there are several popular snus’ and at least one dip that contains caffeine. An idea like this might be snickered at and looked down on by some traditionalists though.
Tiger snuff Powder by Bernard, it doesn t have caffein, but much Guarana… works very good, and has a good flavour, but its tobacco free.
I would also like a caffeine snuff.
Well Guarana contains caffeine so it’s basically the same thing. Caffeine is also called guaranine when found in guarana, mateine when found in mate, and theine when found in tea. They’re the same thing.
@ lxskllr: I think I’ll pass on that one. Nicotine and alcohol are sufficiently addictive for my …well …addiction needs.
Been there, done that…
Thanks for the links guys! I’ll probably end up buying some Tiger Snuff and mixing it in with some Quit and a pinch of Gletscher Prise.
I only recall one energy snuff that actually has tobacco & thats Zuka Zee But its only 1% tobacco. But like mentioned, the Tiger Snuff & Akuz are an energy snuff as well. There is also a Brain/Energy snuff made to combat ADD, ADHD, Social Anxiety Disorder & Brain Fog. Supposed to be good for mentally fatigued truck drivers & students. The product ingredients are: Gota Kola, Ginko Leaf, Rose Hips, Magnesium, Chromium Picolinate, Vitamin C, and Vitamin B-12. Brain Snuff
I just find it odd that nobody has made one yet that has both the tobacco AND the caffiene (besides a paltry 1% for Zuka). I mean, you can do it yourself, but if someone did this, and made it have a great scent, I figure they’d make a lot of money off of it.
If I’m not mistaken most, if not all, the tobacco free snuffs contain caffeine. But I have yet to find any tobacco snuffs with caffeine. If you really wanted to you could mix the two, or alternate the tobacco and the tobacco free. Just an idea.
To have a full tobacco snuff with caffeine added, I don’t think there would be enough caffeine to be noticed on a regular dose? Even on a 50/50 mix. Caffeine doesn’t do anything for me anyways. I can have 5 cups of strong black coffee and go right to bed, except for having to get up and pee all night I would sleep good.
I don’t have any of the energy snuffs, or I’d try mixing one half and half with something and see what happens. I figure you could probably mix a small amount of an American scotch with some and it’d still give you a nice vitamin N hit.
It’d be easy to do this, just add some pharmaceutical grade caffeine powder to your favorite snuff and voila. Easy to get and quite cheap when you consider a coffee cup sized dose is only 60mg. This place here sells it pretty cheap, I think I might just make some with my homemade rustica snuff for some serious morning eye-openers minus all the pissin. Pharma grade bulk caffeineNote all the other goodies one could fortify his, or her, snuff with. You could make yourself a whole line of medicated nicotine treats.
That’s one interesting link there snuffdog. Anybody trying this on their own should really be careful though. You should have a really good scale , be able to mix really well and take into account how often you hit your snuff as well as the possibility that you will be taking a lot more in a day than you usually do. It would also hit your bloodstream a lot faster than coffee , so be careful with the stuff.
This is true Jack, I don’t know what 60mg, or the amount of caffeine in an average cup o’ joe, looks like. I guess I’ll find out soon cuz I ordered some off that link. I’ve been jonesin for an energy snuff too and those non-tobacco products hold less than zero appeal for me. I know the one has 1%, gimme a break, I was looking for something containing closer to, say… 100%, minus flavors and caffeine of course. I love both tobacco and caffeine and think the combination will be the next best thing!
Be careful about adding caffeine powder to anything, you could kill yourself.
I think its better to use the caffeine snuff without tobacco… this give a little kick…
Thanks for your concern Snuffbox and I plan on being extra careful, using little enough to make it take several sniffs to equal a cup of coffee. This way I shouldn’t on caffeine, which I drink a gallon per day already. @didi878: As I stated earlier didi878, I have absolutely zero interest in a non-tobacco snuff. Why do you think it’s better not to use tobacco and caffeine didi878, is this based on some knowledge you might have about these things, a feeling, please share? As I drink coffee while using snuff all day long, think of how many trips to the head could be saved. I bet you can get an even better kick with a tobacco snuff rather than glucose or whatever tobacco-free snuffs are made with.
Snuffdog, that’s an excellent website for raw materials. Thank you! A few years ago I made a pretty zippy energy drink from wild harvested (by me) ephedra sprigs mixed with coca cola. It was nice. A bit astringent, but tolerable with lemon. Next summer, if I get up to Northern AZ, I know where to find more. I’ll see if a decent snuff could be made with it mixed into some tobacco.
@snuffdog, I only use energy snuff, if i want a very fast caffeine kick, and nothing that could calm me down again, like tobacco. Important is of course that it still is a pleasure for the nose…
Well nicotine is a stimulant in low quantities and a mild sedative (i mean it has a calming effect) in larger quantities. But i find tobacco snuff to be in the lower range of nicotine delivery so it would still be stimulating.
@stitch I think that’s a good idea stitch, ephedra should make a good snuff too. The two are different enough to make both of em interesting. I just wonder how well caffeine can be assimilated through the nasal cavity, but I imagine pretty well. @didi878, I think you mean the nicotine from the tobacco would calm you down and that’s not what you want? I suppose it would have that effect sometimes since nicotine has both stimulant and sedative qualities.
Here , have a look at this: http://www.wipo.int/pctdb/en/wo.jsp?WO=1988004929&IA=WO1988004929&DISPLAY=DESC It seems it’s absorbed pretty well and quite rapidly .
Don’t count on not having to run to the restroom as caffeine is a diuretic. In fact you will be at risk for dehydration if you don’t drink extra water. Also stay away from the highly addictive ephedrine. You don’t need that kind of grief. I’d say here that if you enjoy tobacco snuff then reserve your nose for that. Not that I want it to rain on your parade.
ephedra is not a good long term plan. It seems to be well speed and not much diffrent from the illegal version. I’ve noticed that long term ephedra freaks aren’t much diffrent then speed freaks. I think one of the reasons not to mix caffine and snuff in the same mixture is that it would be harder to regulate the amount of each. Like you’d have to have both and couldn’t really control the amounts individualy. This is more dangerous with the caffine which you can overdose on. In fact a welsh college student overdosed on 100 caffiene pills not sure if he took the right amount or how much he went overkill on the amount.
Ephedrine is also quite risky , you have a much greater chance of suffering some sort of acute heart problem from it. It’s also a lot more potent and it’s easy to overdose. I wouldn’t recommend it. Besides all that ephedrine is used as an nasal decongestant that carries two problems: - you will have a reduced nicotine delivery - your nose will become used to the ephedrine and after three days of usage you’ll be dependent on it to keep your nose clear. - you risk breaking the blood vessels in your nose as the shrikage makes them a lot more sensitive.
Excellent points fellas and will take these under advisement. I’m well aware of ephedra and it’s dangers. I also know caffeine has diuretic qualities. I take caffeine daily and will practice all due cautionary steps to ensure safety along with effect. I actually don’t plan on using ephedra nor ephedrine at this point but think that, responsibly used, it can be an useful and safe substance.
@snuffdog: I only used energy snuff while playing a chess tournament, and made the experience that tobacco snuff had a opposed effect for me. Anyways, energy snuff makes sense for me, because the effect doesn t last so long. If I drink a lot of caffeinated drinks, this can even lead to problems to get to sleep for me.
@didi878 Do you think then didi, that a tobacco snuff may have been useful after the tournament to help you relax and catch some zzz’s? Oftentimes caffeine has that effect on me too, although I can’t say it’s due to use in conjunction with nicotine as that’s the only way I take it. For me at least, caffeine is similar to tobacco in that it can have both stimulant and sedative qualities to it as well. Thanks for the info.
I can agree that refined ephedra herb or refined ephedrine may not be good for long term use, and probably makes a nasty snuff. I think there is little danger however from using it as a tea, as has been done by native Americans and Mormons for generations. Now LDS folks don’t approve of any alcohol, tobacco, coffee, or other caffeinated beverages. The common name for ephedra nevadensis is “Mormon tea.” reflecting it’s adoption by that group. Who know how many Mormons actually use this today, but it was apparently very common among settlers.
@snuffdog: I don t think that snuff is a great help for me to catch some sleep after a tournament day. I must take care that I don t use to much, because this can lead to sleep problems again. But this is really a very special situation, chess players in general don t sleep good. My recipe is: Eating much (most important) and drinking few beers in the evening, and I m sleeping very good. Regarding the stimulant effects of tobacco, I m cautious if I need highest mental efforts. I first noticed at the age of 10 that there could be a problem: A friend made a joke and gave me a very big pinch of snuff, which I took before a class test. I had to repeat this test because I could nt concentrate and had a disastrous outcome
Gentlemen, listen to an old man!! Leave the snuff making to the snuff makers!! What I’ve read so far, scares me. Are you sure you’re not playing with fire??
I wouldn’t worry Pieter, we’re only talking about adding a little caffeine to snuff, the ephedra was purely intended for informational purpose. As much coffee as I drink and Red Bulls washing down caffeine pills, I’d be dead by now if caffeine was half as dangerous as you all making it out to be.
When I’m in need of some extra caffeine, I make myself a double espresso with my own coffee machine at home. Often happens that it’s so strong, it gives me the shakes. That’s why I was wondering if it’s a good idea to add caffeine to snuff. Snuffdog, what is the caffeine pills for, does it give you extra energy? As you know I love mountain biking and we are always looking for legal ways to increase energy. Drinking strong coffee before a race does not help much because the effect is short living.
Well Pieter, I haven’t taken any lately but have used caffeine my whole life, including pills. They are useful for long drives, late studying etc, anytime you want a pick-me-up without living in the bathroom. Nowadays I mostly just drink coffee and espresso along with a couple energy drinks a day. All this caffeine adds up and a caffeine snuff sounds like a great idea to me.
Roderick, how about it?? I can ride my mtb, sniffing some caffeine Toque and beat all the youngsters who call me SpeedyPete because I’m so slow!! I know you can do it Rod.
ive only scanned this thread so it may have been mentioned but if you google ‘legal highs’ there is a range of energy type snuffs out there, may be ephedra though
