Bruton of Nashville Tennessee Scotch Snuff is a hard-hitting traditional American Snuff. It definitely does not pull any punches. Fine ground and very dry. It is a medium brown color with all the fixings of Ole Authentic Southern Tobacco. This snuff is more for the experienced Snuffer, but it does set the mark for new comers when comparing snuffs. For the un-experience do not be surprised if a tear comes to one of your eyes from the first sniff, it’s just that strong no joke. There may be a bit of sneezing going along with that as well. It has a strong tobacco taste accompanied by a distinct strong cured (smoky) flavor. Recommended for the experienced Snuffer. But for the few adventures new to snuff you are definitely in for a surprise. Good Luck!
I broke out my jar of Brutons after reading your review. This is seriously some potent stuff. I’ve got a jar of the W.E. Garret on order. I look forward to trying it.
Pretty boring scotch to me. It’s not too smokey compared to, say, Garrett or Square. It smells like a cheap light cigar ground up. It is pretty potent but that’s its only notable attribute.
I love it. Or rather I love its effect. Very potent, very stimulating. Great for keeping you awake at night.
It’s good stuff. I just got my can of it yesterday and it is fine even for a scotch.
Just bought a can at the grocery store. Strong, for sure and the flavor is agreeable. No smokiness here. Pretty plain. If you want a nicotine bomb, this will do it.
This snuff has a well earned nickname Brutal

I have a cardboard box of this snuff, probably from the 1970’s, no warnings on the side. It’s just as you described,@JosephJames, plain, not much flavor, but lots of nicotine. I haven’t tried any of it in about 3 years. I’ll have to dig it out and see what I think now.
I’m a relative newbie and Bruton Scotch might be within the first 10 snuffs I’ve purchased. It is as described here, and nearly always brings a tear to my eye. Compared with other snuffs I’ve tried, I have a problem with snooting it way too deep: I don’t sneeze but I end up coughing or hacking. Does anyone have advice for this? I have considered not even sniffing but rather just placing a pinch in each nostril and letting it sit there. Is that crazy? I do like the flavor and after effects though. I just can’t imagine ever using it up at the rate I have to take it. Maybe I just need to toughen up a bit, or sniff more softly.
@semmetrik you can check out & try the plug method, where you pinch a pile and rest it on your thumb (pad of thumb with your snuff on pointing up, remove finger) and close/plug the target nostril with it. Then breathe in and out for a bit with that nostril plugged - the air swirling around your sinuses should pick most of it up and not hit the throat. It doesn’t work perfectly for me, probably depends on your sinuses, but it’s a good start. There’s also the substrate approach, where you first snuff something course and moist as a ‘catcher’s mitt’ for the fine dry stuff. A couple times though I’ve accidentally inhaled a ball of half moist Cheeta into my throat while driving this way though
@ar47 Thanks for the tips!
