I’ve mostly bought Samuel Gawith, wilsons and toque. I tried some super chetak but traded it. It just didn’t sit well with me. There’s alot of talk on the forums about Indian snuff, what is the good? I thought what I tried was full of nicotine but lacking in flavor. I am interested in snuff from around the globe though.
The Indian white snuffs are an abomination. Most traditional Indian snuffs are multi-floral fresh and very complexly scented.
Indian snuffs come in two types; the traditional and the new lines aimed at the western market. Both can be very good. Dholakia’s traditional range has the standard very perfumed, very fine snuffs like kamal and manjul. Hard to take if you don’t have the technique but very pleasant if you have. They have a large range of western types with various candy flavours. Fubar is excellent and a must try snuff. 6 Photo are extending their lines and they have just released a new range of toasts which I was fortunate enough to try before they were released and they are superb; see the review section. Considering they were unknown to most snuffers until very recently the Indian snuff makers have really made a space for themselves at the table.
Howdy Sly!
After starting with English snuffs, I next branched out to the German snuffs, then I tried some South African snuffs, I finally discovered the Indian snuffs. Mr. Snuff has all of the above and then some, so you can branch out in every direction with one supplier.
My trip around the world for a new snuffer would be:
NTSU Black from South Africa.
Dholakia Black from India.
Germany, well just look at everyones’ line of Schmalzlers.
Sadly, I never caught on with Dholakia. I did tolerate Dholakia Chocolate, but I’m not a fan of chocolate in general.
I can handle Schmalzlers in moderation.
Call me crazy, but I do have a taste for NTSU Green. Something about that amonia laden barnyard aroma with a hint of mint…
@GreenGrass now here is one thing that I wholeheartedly agree with you on!!!
@Zanaspus Those look like solid suggestions, I’ll order some my next order.
Ganga is the only dholakia I’ve tried but I can strongly reccomend it. It’s not overly musky. It’s sweet in more than one form and the flavor lasts a fair while not being sickeningly sweet. It’s kind of like incense but not too much. The 6 photos I’ve tried, Special and Kailash, are floral and more like incense with a good deal of menthol that enhances the flavor, which can last a good hour.
