I’m reading Ken Kesey’s book “Sometimes I really want to…” and the snuff box is often mentioned in it. But due to the difficulty of translation, it is difficult for me to understand what kind of tobacco the characters in the book use. In one phrase it reads “Meanwhile the Indian Jenny, sniffing her relish of tobacco”, and in the other “tobacco stuck under her lip.” Perhaps there is tobacco that is used both nasally and orally. Am I thinking right? Maybe it’s “Copenhagen” tobacco? Tell me if you know.

It seems an odd use of the word “relish” but I assume, without much context, that she was just smelling her tobacco. Perhaps a few more sentences would clear it up. Oral use would be more likely but this is Ken Kesey. Perhaps I’ll have to pick this book up, I’ve always wanted to read something of his and never did. I’m more familiar with his later work.

Shows how much I know. Knowing his later work was referring to his acid test shenanigans. I didn’t realize he’d started all that before his 2nd novel.
