Hello ! I have been having a strange issue as of late. I haven’t snuffed for a week now , and my nose started getting clogged up, and then when I blow my nose, I find there is blood (not a runny nose) with the rest of the snot ( sorry I could not find a more attractive word). Anyone else had this problem ? it just seems strange to me that this happened when I was not using snuff at all. Thanks !

F

is it fresh looking blood? or does it look old?

J

That happened to me when I first started snuffing, I just carried on and didn’t pay it Any mind and it stopped in about 2 days and hasn’t done it since. I just figured it was my nose adjusting to constantly having stuff put in it lol.

G

the blood looked old, as it was not runny at all. I get paranoid when I see blood coming out of my nose, as I used to have very random nose bleeds at odd times ( like finishing a meal , being at the airport etc ). Another peculiar thing is I have been have pains in my sinuses for some reason as well…

F

perhaps snuffing/blowing a bit hard? i was thinking it could be from an old nosebleed that got blocked up there and you never noticed. sounds a little like sinusitis, but i am no doctor.

G

My snuffing technique is pretty gentle, and I havent had a nosebleed in a while really. I appreciate the comments !

@Gax1985 I am sure you may get some responses to your thread that may tell experiences of nosebleeds/ dry or fresh blood…what concerns me is you mentioning random nosebleeds in the past, saying your paranoid. Logical advice if it continues, to relieve your frustration and worry is to make appointment with a MD specialist in ENT. Even if a MD ( who may be a member ) here on this forum who responds to your thread, cannot make a accurate diagnosis with seeing you in person. Always best to leave that in the hands of professionals.

If you are having pains in your sinuses, and you have blood streaks in your snot, these are signs of a possible sinus infection. But it also could be as simple as you are just blowing your nose too hard or there has been a change in the weather or even allergies. I would use a neti pot or get a spray bottle of saline solution to spray up your nose to help clean it out and moisturize it.

G

Thank you all for taking the time to respond to this ! I appreciate it !

For now, I will stop snuffing until all the symptoms go away, and after seeing the doctor !

I used to get random bloody noses all the time when I was a kid, especially after a rapid climate change (example going from outside on a very hot summer day to standing right in front of the air conditioner). Doesn’t happen as much anymore, but still does once in a while. After I have one I might blow some old blood out a few days later. It may even be possible that you had a very small bleed that you didn’t even notice and blew it out days afterwards.

re: “Snot”… In dignified snuff society we call that “brown excrament on your bandana.”

Dry winter air causes mucosa to dry and contract and split (like lips chapping). Moisturize and keep clean.

I had a girlfriend who used to lather her lips with vaseline. Said it kept the chaps away. Worked with me, anyway. Aah, the oldies… I’ve always had bad sinuses, and ruined plenty of while hankerchiefs by over-blowing and having a nosebleed. Snuffing has actually stopped all of that, bad sinuses, nose bleeds, the lot. Maybe you’re getting what life will be like without snuff.

Blew a gasket the other night. I get stress nosebleeds. Still snuffing.

The last few years I have suffered very frequently due to the very dry winters. Usually at the worst possible times. Started the snuff thing and the nose bleeds have completely stopped. Obviously a miracle cure.

D

I have hardly had any nosebleeds but I can honestly say that snuff has cured my year round runny nose. I tried so many different allergy meds and nothing worked. I start using snuff and it has completely gone away.

G

strange how snuff works!

strange how snuff works!

But that it does is a wonderful thing.

Mine started bled pretty bad once when I first started. It was becasue I couldnt leave my nose alone. Constantly blowing and picking. Anyhow I cut the inside of my nose pretty bad with my finger nail.

When I snuff a LOT (10+ grams) in one day I will have a little blood in my snot sometimes. I never worry about it really, snuff irritates the nose and all the rubbing and blowing will get to it after a while.

Probably the ol’ vasoconstriction working its magic.

This idea I’ve seen of being sociable and passing around the snuff can result in someone ending up with a bloody nose if it doesn’t come back to me fast enough…

When I first started snuffing: severe nose bleeds one side after a day or two - day or so later, same the other side - then it settled. Same (but less drastic) when I returned to snuff after several years without. Get those symptoms now just occasionally if I try a sort very different from those I regularly use - or if something at work or home is raising my blood pressure. A gently rolled tissue “bung” or two usually help fix it - and then careful snuffing and gentle nose clearing for a day or two thereafter. Also, some snuffs that have dried-out too far can be bad here - notably one or two of the GH sorts, if they’ve sat around a while outside a humidor.
