Black Friday purchase for myself

I just purchased 8 lbs of whole leaf tobacco of various varieties as well as a 3 lb ball mill. Yeah, I’m making homemade snuff. I am a “do-it-yourselfer” by nature and am very excited to get my hands dirty. Anybody else buy themselves something today?

I found American scotch snuffs recipes online. Might offer some insight if you need any. Congratulations on your purchase. I am considering growing my own .

Those recipes would be great. There is a fair amount of information out there about general technique but I haven’t seen too many recipes. Many thanks. I’d love to grow my own but it isn’t viable with my tiny yard. Living in North Carolina it almost seems like my duty to raise tobacco though. What kind are you thinking about?

I live in North Carolina, too. Western end of the state. I remember all of the small tobacco allotments people used to have. My mother is from coastal SC and all of her family worked in tobacco in the 1960s and before. It’s how she paid for school clothes and books. I never quizzed any of them about growing. Most people start in February or March with seedlings. I am not sure on what variety I am going to plant. I will research it. I do know tobacco uses a lot of nutrients from the soil. I only have half an acre to plant on but I shouldn’t need a lot of plants to make enough snuff for a while. Perhaps we could grow, grind and have one of our recipe master members formulate? I know we have members who make snuff.
