Best type of Cigar to make Snuff from!

A

On occasion I have ground different types of tobacco to make my own snuff, or to blend with some of my existing snuff. I have tried extra strong roll your own cigarette tobacco, pipe tobacco, and cigars. The process can be a little time consuming, I would grind these tobacco products in an old electric coffee grinder, then put through a sieve, with what didn’t fit through being returned to the grinder until it did go through. The resulting “snuff” might need a little distilled water, tiny bit of backing soda, and salt. These were okay, but not the best.

However, I recently found the very best tobacco product to make snuff out of, Toscano Cigars! These are those somewhat rustic cigars made in Italy. Here is the truely amazing thing, I put them into the grinder for about half a minute or so and they make perfect Snuff, no need for a sieve, or anything! The resulting snuff, is a bit like a Dry Toast, but even stronger! With some I have ground I do put some distilled water, but that’s a taste preference I sometimes have! I also add some of this snuff to the odd bought snuff that needs a lift.

Has anyone else tried grinding Toscano Cigars to make snuff?

This guy from Spain uses cigars that are past their best to make snuff as, I think, he has trouble obtaining snuff in Spain. He made four or five videos about his experiences making snuff and they’re worth a watch.

Yup, Toscanos make a decent pinch without any additives whatsoever. Snuff making 101 - #366 by volunge (plenty cigar snuff posts on this snuffmaking thread).

I don’t look down upon budget Dominican, Nicaraguan and Cuban stogiedust either. Balmoral, Don Tomas, Quorum, Guantanamera, Jose L. Piedra..

There’s one caveat with all-natural, additives-free snuff, though - the finer you go, the less aroma you get. And you do want to go fine to make the pure cigar dust deliver (if nicotine matters)…
