Best snuffs to try from Wilsons of Sharrow?

F

I may be making a trip to the mill while im in sheffield tuesday, if i can buy there any ideas what would be some good snuffs to try? im into spiced, plain, menthol.

B

whatever piques your interest. If it sounds good get it.

_

Lemon Toast, Lemon Grove, and #22. Oh, and Morlaix.

F

paul gotard black night and coffee sounded good, but were terrible haha. what are their best menthols? might try an SP too, and the lemons. the #22 is likely too.

M

SM500, SM Brown, SM Gold. If you like a strong hit of camphor try SM Blue. Flavored menthols: Vanilla Ice, Apricot Menthol, Cherry Menthol. SP’s: Gold Label, Grand Cairo, Tom buck/Queen’s Extra Strong. Just my opinions…

B

Bubblegum

M

Gotta try that, maybe in the next order…

T

I agree with the Royal George, Tom Buck, and GC plus their toasts and SPS. I don’t know about the Carnation and I’ve never been to Sheffield. One more reason to go to England I suppose.

H

Best Dark - it’s like an earthy SP, and reminds me of an early morning walk in a forest, all misty and moisty. Lovely. Anyone mentioned Crumbs of Comfort yet? Just the right strength of spearmint scent, doesn’t blow your head off, but is somehow both comforting and invigorating. Royal George as already mentioned, very complex scent, sort of marzipanny but with all sorts of undertones. I found it nice but a bit overpowering at first, so if you don’t like it leave it a while, the scent does get more subtle with time. Aniseed Extra is an example of that. I bought it without realising the ‘extra’ was menthol, and I don’t generally get on with menthol, it makes me sneeze and closes my sinuses up, and that’s just what it did for about a month after I got it, every time I tried it. Now the tin has been open for a while, I tried it the other day and rather liked it, no sneezing, no nose-blocking, so if you’re into menthol it’s certainly worth a try. It’s a liqourice scent, but not as fiercely mentholated as their Ice Lqourice, which I still can’t cope with. I’d love to try them fresh from the mill, I bet it’s like the difference between flat movies and 3D!

T

How did I forget Best Dark? Get that one fresh from the mill and it’s phenomenal.

H

I’ve never had a Wilson’s I didn’t like. I’ll throw in another vote for Royal George just because there’s nothing else like it. It is a ludicrous snuff.

T

Strasbourg is lovely

H

Strasbourg is lovely

As he posted just above you I’m sure he’ll be pleased you think so. :))

S

These are the WoS I’m buying in bulk this year. Ie my favourites: Brunswick Best Dark Gold Label SP100 Cherry Menthol Crombs of Comfort Tom Buck Grand Cairo Strasbourg IDHT20 IHT22 Prime Minister Raspberry Apricot Chocolate Orange Country Mint I already have in bulk: Camphor & Mild Best SP

M

I’d agree with most of those. Most definitely I second: Best Dark, Gold Label, the toasts, Strasbourg, Apricot, Chocolate Orange. Yeah, if you buy many different ones you’re likely to find some faves…

F

ill put together a list, think ill go on saturday, might not have time today. im actually a little jumpy (excited) about going.

W

Camphor & Mild. Lovely stuff. Stefan

L

my personal favourate’s are chocolate orange, Sm blue and crumbs of confort.

P

Grand Cairo, I’m sure would benefit greatly from being factory fresh.

C

Grand Cairo, Best Dark

F

apparently they are online only, wonder why theres directions to the place on the website, and where ive heard i could visit… ah well, i shall be trying these snuffs nonetheless.

F

Wilsons’ own: Best SP (still the best “standard” SP I have ever used) Tom Buck (a powerful strong SP - excellent) Grand Cairo (an excellent Red Rappee) Jockey Club (if you like more floral / perfumed blends) Rose of Sharrow (a beautiful, “pure” attar of Roses) Crumbs of Comfort (if you like Spearmint!) Best Dark - as described:

Best Dark - it’s like an earthy SP, and reminds me of an early morning walk in a forest, all misty and moisty. Lovely.

Fribourg & Treyer (made by Wilsons) HDT (one of the best “Irish” snuffs available) Princes (jet black, moderately coarse, moist, Tonquin Essence, Musk & Geranium Bourbon - good enough for the Prince Regent 150 years ago!) Old Paris (dark-ish, flavoured with a date liqueur) Macouba (Rose with sandalwood, Musk & Geranium Bourbon) actually, with the possible exception of Patchouli, I have enjoyed all of the F&T blends Wilsons’ will supply straight from the mill, quick postal turn-around, immaculately fresh snuff - and excellent customer service. Just don’t expect them to answer the telephone quickly after about 3PM UK time - they’re usually too busy packing orders! Oh - and they close early on Fridays.

B

As far as F&T they’re all great. cept probably Patchouli. Dr Justice is awesome but my nose hates it.

S

F&T’s Patchouli’s ace

F

I’d love to try them fresh from the mill, I bet it’s like the difference between flat movies and 3D!

You can buy WoS / F&T straight from the mill. … and yes, it’s the difference between silent monochrome movies and 3D with surround sound!

M

I love the Patchouli, but then I had a lot of hippie ex-girlfriends so it’s a nostalgia scent for me. As for WoS, I really like the Irish Coffee and the Sherry. Their toasts are excellent too.

D

I agree with most all of these. They are all good in different ways. Gold label, grand Cairo, and Tom buck are my favorites. One I haven’t seen mentioned tho is Burgundy. That one is pretty good imo and rich in scent. Definitely worth a try.

E

My most recent bulk purchases from Wilsons were Brunswick, Natural and IHT No. 22. All excellent and superbly fresh, if from opposite ends of the snuff spectrum.

K

Sherry is not often discussed, imagine a tangy/sour Old Paris, fantastic. Otherwise my favorites are Grand Cairo and Natural.

M

Grand Cairo, Tom Buck, Brunswick, Best Dark and Rosemary. The Lavender is good as well (but perhaps a little too subtle).

X

If this thread stays current long enough, I daresay every blend will get mentioned My must haves: Tom Buck Irish High Toast #22 Irish DH Toast #20 Grand Cairo Gold Label Camphor & Mild Wallflower Carnation Rose Lemon Grove All the dark/moist ones are really good too: Best Dark, Princes, Burgundy, and especially Brunswick. Other noteworthy ones: Honey Menthol Apricot Jockey Club Royal George Lavender Lemon Toast Thyme & Lemon Strawberry

X

Somehow I forgot to mention Strasbourg. Its one of my favs, and I keep it in bulk.
