Hey guys , wich Licorice/Anis snuff you like the most? I always hated Anis but recently i discovered that i really like the flavour in snuff so i am looking for tips from you. Right now i am using Toque Absinthe (no menthol , good tobacco and licorice flavour) and WOS Ice Licorice (lots of menthol and Licorice in this one) . AP
WoS Aniseed and Eucalyptus is pretty good. The eucalyptus is not prnounced. I have to be in the right mood for it, though. Normally its not real appealing. Other than Toque Absinthe, all the others I have tried are mentholated. Snuff Head will probably tell you to get Snuff Store Liquorice. Its on my wishlist.
I prefer licorice over anise. I’ll be getting the snuff store licorice any day now. Ice licorice is my favorite right now. For anise, Toque Absinthe rules with it’s clean dry no menthol flavor.
dholakia anise reminds me of good and plenties.
For me, McChrystals anisette is good when you just want a straight licorice flavor, but MY GOD, I love WOS’ Ice licorice. I know it has a lot of menthol, but the pleasant cooling base of anisette goes very well in this mix. Of course, there is always Lowen Prise, but it’s a little bit cloying if I use it all day.
I’m an anise junkie. McChrystals anisette is a wonderful snuff, though quite different from the Toque Absinthe. Both are excellent, although I do find the Toque Absinthe to be more of a dessert snuff. If you’re into American Scotches, allow me to recommend my very own, easy to make concoction: grind a bit of star anise; mix in a jar with some W.E. Garrett Sweet and Mild. Leave for at least a few days. That’s it. Obviously, you don’t have to use Garrett Sweet and Mild – any snuff will do. Just keep in mind that a little star anise goes a long way. (Anise essential oil would also work, but I haven’t yet tried that method.) Oh, and if you’re into snus, try Gotlandssnus Anis. This is the one snus I simply cannot live without. This is the thing that made me forget all about ever wanting a cigarette again. There’s a reason why I have 15 cans of it sitting in my freezer.
You’ve already got two of the finest. Frederick Tranter’s Country Doctor is well worth trying too - it’s aniseed with just a hint of eucalyptus.
Country Doctor sounds like WoS Aniseed & Eucalyptus
Thanks for the tips guys i will add some of your suggestions to my next order. @Kojoerup i like Gotland Gray man but i prefer the smell of Anis over the taste @bigblue i love Dholakia Aniseed , thanks for reminding me about that one i have a sealed tin but i completely forgot about it! WOS Aniseed Extra , Aniseed & Eucalyptus and Mc Chrystals Anisette are in my cart at NicotineRush waiting for my next order (next week i hope) AP
Country Doctor is wonderful I’ve got 1/2lb of it. It is different to WoS aniseed and eucalyptus, I’ve only had one pinch of the WoS version but I remember it being different to Country Doctor. Stefan
I can’t decide between Wilson’s Aniseed & Eucalyptus and McChrystal’s Anisette. Both are absolutely fantastic.
@cstokes4: Country Doctor is made by Wilsons of course but it is definitely a different snuff. There’s much less eucalyptus in it.
I can’t find the Eucalyptus in the WoS as it is.
So far I’ve tried WoS Ice Liquorice, SS Liquorice, Löwenprise, Toque Absinthe and Snuff Store Liquorice, and the only one I don’t particularly care for is the Pöschl.
I like the LowenPrise a lot. The Ice Menthol is good, but it is way too menthol, really. Dholakia Aniseed Menthol is very good. I like a strong straight-up menthol, but also a background note is good too, as it seems to enhance, and not overcome the flavors, like Sparrow Cool.
Oh, I forgot the Dholakia - yes, that one’s very nice.
Too bad we can’t get Trantner snuffs in the US. I’d give them a try or four. So far my favorite Aniseed/Licorice snuff is Doms Edel Prise. Sharp at first then fades to something great.
Old string, but I figure it’s better than starting a redundant one.
Just received McChrystal’s Anisette in a mail order. I love licorice and anis flavorings in food and candy, but I hadn’t tried an anis snuff yet. I am here at my house celebrating how good this is. The anis and the tobacco go together perfectly, and I’m really happy I gave it a try.
Over time, I’ll try some of the brands mentioned in this string…thanks for the information here.

@markstinson, no-one mentioned Toque Coldsfeet in this threat so far, but it is also anis-ish.
@SkeG coltsfoot is fairly new compared to this thread I think 2012 or 13.
SG aniseed is a powerful long lasting scent and will ghost a wooden snuff box.
If lil browns ships to your state Wilson of Sharrow Dr Rumney’s is worth a go. It different than all the other dr rumney’s.And it the only place I had seen it.
