I like my cooking best but when it comes to snuff,I leave it in the qualified hands of the professionals .I can install a exhaust system on my vehicles but I really don’t need the hassle and for some odd reason they can do it cheaper. I support snuff blenders! If I was to manufacture, Shaman snuff would be to the left under the snuff takers ephemeris >:)

I oddly enough I am the opposite way, I am not proficient working with my hands at all (you should see my grades from shop class), however, some reason I love to grind my own snuff. If you ever make some Shaman snuff, I would be very interested in hearing the details of that one.

well, I am currently working on a batch of Squadron Leader that got a bit drier than I would have liked— so with a few tips from @basement_shaman and a LOT of luck, i’ll be snuffing it instead of smoking it— though, now that I’ve said that, I think i’ll fire up a bowl

F

i too would be interested in a shaman snuff haha, wonder what hed make it like…

^ @firestarter0 Dunno, but whatever it would be, we could rest assured it’d be excellent — he needs to work on the perfect Copenhagen nasal— I’m 1/2 way there but don’t have it just the way I want it just yet…

That actually sounds like a great one to make a snuff out of, I might give that one a try.

A lot of times I will take cigars that are past their prime or that I did not care for and grind them into snuff. My latest success was grinding Cohiba (D.R. not Cuban) cigarillos into snuff. Horrible to smoke, great to snuff. Cameroon leafs apparently make a nice snuff.

S

First snuff I ever tried was home made. Toasted up some Captain Black in the oven, ground it up and snorked it. Not too bad, actually. Can add drops of essential oils for “flavor.”

S

Good to see you back again @Scurvy!!!

Actually not a bad idea. Captain Black was the first pipe tobacco I have smoked, so in honor of that I should at some point replicate this recipe.

I use smoking Joe’s pipe tobacco (really rolling tobacco) and flavor it as well as I make one using fresh hops leftovers I diddnt use Brewing that made an amazing snuff low nic though

Wow talk about ingenuity, sounds pretty awesome!! What variety of hops do you tend to use when you are blending this particular experiment? Just for curiosity’s sake.

M

Used northern brewer

M

5to1 hop to tobacco

C&D Easy Times, my first go at making snuff. And yes I did make a few mistakes the first time around. However, this tobacco is excellent for making a pungent and smoke enveloped snuff. I would not necessarily say that it is the same as an American scotch. However, they do both share the some of the same commonalities.

I bought a pound of ‘The Good Stuff’ pipe tobacco (actually rolling tobacco) and ground it to flour in my ball mill. It’s nice stuff, though it’s difficult to draw a comparison with commercial snuffs because it is not yet snuff, only powdered tobacco. I am currently exerimenting with alkalysing and lightly fermenting it, and I’m getting closer and closer to making snuff that is similar to a commercial product. My next round of exeriments will be using various varieties of whole leaf tobaccos. Once I have a good plain base snuff, the difficult part (blending and flavoring) will begin! I’m expecting that next time some dumb politician needs to appear to be doing something to ‘protect the children’, we will see a closing of the ‘loophole’ which allows us to import snuff into the States. I intend to be prepared for ‘snuffageddon’ by having the means and the knowledge to produce my own high quality snuff in bulk quantities. Right now, I can produce a pound of flour in around four hours, most of which takes place without needing my attention. I will never produce commercial quantities, but I do intend to have a comfortable personal supply if the importation laws ever change.

Latest experimental cigar snuff: Ground, sieved, moistened with balsamic lavender vinegar, let rest for three weeks, opened stirred, let breathe, then tried. It was surprisingly good for an amateur made snuff. Like above poster, I am waiting for snuff to become illegal to buy thru the mail, " to protect the children", which seems to be the battle cry of every do-gooder group in the US.

V

The best snuff I have made was Elmo’s Reserve. It is very simple to make it. You just have to open the tin and abracadabra! there it is.

B

@Viertel Nothing like some good tonquin flavor to make a decent day great!

J

I’ve had reasonably good luck with Cornell and Diehl Tuggle Hall, pulverized with a ball mill and slightly alkalyzed. It’s actually slightly similar to Viking Dark. In the end, I mixed it 50-50 with Toque Violet, which spoiled the “home made” aspect, but resulted in a snuff that was much greater than the sum of its parts. I’d have to say that the flavor of the home-made snuff surprised me, it wasn’t like I’d expect from smoking it. Much stronger and more pungent. If you like fiddling, making your own is a fun way to spend a rainy sunday afternoon. A bit like bread, no denying that professionals make a more professional product, but the process is part of the pleasure.

K

Samuel gawith commonwealth pipe tobacco and label 5 whiskey.

P

@kokolihamies That really does sound like an excellent combo for making into a snuff. Especially after examining the SG website and Mr. Snuff, I do not believe that the make any whisk(e)y flavored snuffs. I really do commend you for your ingenuity. Have you ever considered or tried flavoring it with a scotch that is a little heavier on the peat?

N

@peter77 their is a few whiskey snuffs out there. As for scotch booziness go for some SWS Mull of Oa. I bought a little single shot bottle of Patron tequila tonight after eyeing em for a while as nice snuff bottles. Emptied the contents properly and let it dry out a bit before stuffing it full of snuff. I will give it a bit to see if any tequila essence is attained, if nothing else still a nice little snuff bottle, so win/win for me.

P

@Nosemud Let me start off by saying excellent idea for that nip bottle of Patron tequila, never did think of using one as a snuff bottle. Also, tequila flavored snuff, especially with a 100 percent agave tequila, which personally I am never disappointed with. I am aware of SWS Mull of Oa and have contemplated acquiring some in my next order. My comment was more about the absence of a whiskey snuff from the Samuel Gawith line, considering kokolihamies did a SG Common wealth and label 5 experiment. Personally I would like to see SG formally produce a whisk(e)y snuff. However, Mull of Oa is a snuff I have been interested in. The only whiskey flavored snuff I have tried Toque Bourbon and I am really interested in also trying their Whisky and Honey snuff. So it is good to know that SWS Mull of Oa is good stuff, since you are recommending it and it seems to be a favorite on this forum. Thanks for your input Nosemud, it is always appreciated.

B

@peter77 I’m a new snuffer, and have only tried a few pinches of Mull of Oa, but it is so well made that it is obvious even to me. Excellent product, well worth trying, definitely a purchase that you won’t regret even if it isn’t one of your favorites- even if you don’t like the precise flavor (which I do, for the record) it is a very well made snuff. I’m not terribly impressed with the Toque Kentucky Bourbon snuff, but then, Toque’s grind is still a bit too fine for me to take easily. I trust that I will learn to take Toque snuff better with time, and until then, it works reasonably when I use a straw to (literally) blow it into my nose.

@peter77 I just want to give a shout out to Gawith Hoggarth Whisky. I found it enjoyable, though not amazing.

oop! Apparently SG do make one: http://www.snuffreviews.com/browse/samuel\\_gawith\\_company\\_limited/products/whiskey Must be new since it has no reviews.

I guess as the saying goes you learn something new everyday. I double checked Mr. Snuff still could not find it. So I will keep searching. However, Gawith Hoggath will certainly be on my try list. I’ll keep a look out for it.

P

Parodi Snuff. These cigars make a great smokey snuff. The blessing of KY & TN broadleaf.

C

Slightly off topic, but I don’t mix snuffs. I do like to play with whole leaf. It’s cheap and tax free; total cost, delivered is about $20 a pound USD. That’s a lot of snuff for twenty bucks and some play time investment. Plus you can do whatever you happen to feel like when “cooking” up a snuff blend. As for those mini bottles; I’ve got a few hundred of them for sale. Unfortunately they’re unused and don’t contain any booze

P

@chefdaniel Certainly not off topic! That is actually an excellent idea for blending snuff. The only question I have is that is this raw tobacco or has it already been treated. I have never played around with raw tobacco before and have no idea how to properly dry it out.

C

@peter77‌ I get the whole leaf fully cured and age it myself before I make snuff. Depending on what I’m making I might add some alkaline, usually washing soda, and some sea salt and then let it age a little more. I strip the mid-rib, run it through my office document shredder (it’s never been used for its intended purpose) and proceed from there.
