So what jars are you guys using while decanting for long term storage?
http://www.freundcontainer.com/wide-mouth-packer-glass-bottles/p/v4232B07/ I use the cobolt blue 4235B03 because they are cheap like me. Are they the best ? They had served me well for over half a decade and kept my snuff it tip top condition. Any glass jar that is airtight will work. You don’t need fancy colors just keep your snuff out of the light and extreme temperature changes.
I decant into 2 and 4 oz jars when I buy in bulk; they’re blue but I store them in a cool dark cellar in their shipping box, so they might as well be clear glass.
I am partial to the half-pint, wide-mouth canning jars like this:

They are air-tight, easily available, and stack well.
I like to use Ball brand canning jars in 4, 8, 12 and 16 ounce sizes, depending on the size of the stash. I boil the hell out of them to sterilize, cool and dry thoroughly, lightly pack the snuff and store in a large 38 gallon Igloo Ice chest; it’s dark and the temp stays pretty close to constant.
As I decant from those jars and they start getting low I transfer into smaller and smaller jars to keep the air out. For artisan snuffs, I keep them in the fridge and decant small amounts into small tins or a snuffbox that will last two days at most.
Specialty Bottle makes many sizes and are new and cheap.
Well if you guys are actually jarring snuff like @chefdaniel said then my comments in several places about snuff aging well probably don’t apply to you. I thought you were talking about keeping snuff in tupperware or whatever and it helps but doesn’t work. Furthermore, unless you try aged snuff back to back with a new fresh container you may think the old stuff is fine when it really isn’t.
But serious jarring like in jam, preserves, etc.? A whole 'nother ball game. I didn’t mean to say that won’t work.
