Best coffee snuff?

This is my first discussion. I checked all the coffee snuffs while trying to find one really good but I did not find a snuff that everyone praised. I think I mixed a very good coffee snuff. 50/50 Coffee kick and Irish Toast No. 22. Have you ever tried it? If you have, what is your opinion? What’s the best coffee snuff you have ever mixed?

I never tried to mix a coffee snuff, Abraxas Café 11 is already perfect

I mixed the last of a tin of SG Black Coffee with the last of a tin of Viking Dark and was very pleased with the results.

Coffee snuffs are one of my favorites even the menthol ones. If I were to mix them it would be with Dholakia White or Toque rustica to turn up the vitamin N

Haven’t tried any coffee snuffs yet, which is surprising considering my love of coffee! Obviously ill be adding a few to my next order

I’ve not mixed it with a toast, but I have mixed it with Wow Coffee Bite to lower the menthol a bit and I enjoyed the mix. My favourites are Cafe 11, SG Black Coffee and Snuff Store’s Cafe Noire.

SG Black Coffee or Snuffstore Cafe Noir, which is virtually identical, with maybe a little SG Vanilla mixed in. Can’t beat them. I’ve tried WoS Coffee Cream, and Toque Espresso, but neither came close to the full bodied scent of those. GW Tia Maria got me through a spot when neither was available, so I might try that again, this time in a non-tapbox. I bit the bullet before Christmas and stumped up two Black Coffee tins worth of money to try Abraxas Cafe 11, and I’m sure it’s very nice if you like a coffee with a liquer in and chocolate sprinkles on top, but as I was hoping for a supercharged basic black coffee scent I was a bit disappointed, as I found the coffee somewhat submerged under everything else. My fault really, the reviews do suggest it’s more than just coffee. I’ve stuck it in an SG 25g tin with half a tin of Cafe Noir mixed in (and a little SG Vanilla) and I like that mixture, but for occasional pinches rather than on a regular basis.

I’ve tried a number of coffee snuffs and found most of them to smell like next-day stale coffee grounds. The only one that I find agreeable is SG Black Coffee, which smells like freshly brewed strong espresso. Curiously, Poschl’s Perlereuter, which is not a coffee snuff, has a very coffee-like impression, even though the dominant fragrance is unsweetened black licorice. When I feel like going for something in a coffee range, I often go for that instead.

Speaking from personal experience, coffee is a flat bitch to work with. Coffee oil is very volatile and oxidizes very quickly, giving that stale/rancid scent of yesterday’s brew. Coffee extracts are better but are a little “flat”. I finally figured out that a “cold brew” works well, with a little coffee essential oil to round the scents out and give it structure. For the brew I warm up the beans in the oven, coarse grind and infuse into 190 proof grain alcohol (Everclear). That sits in a dark place for a few months, then strained. I add distilled water to the grounds and let that soak for a few days to “rinse” the residual goodies. I wrap the spent grounds in cheesecloth with some sea salt and “sandwich” the grounds between layers of tobacco and a few planks of toasted hardwood on the top and bottom of the pile, dress it with the extract and press it with a few gallon jugs of water and let it age for several months before proceeding to the snuff making… Like I said, it’s a bitch. A slow simmer to remove the non-essential ingredients like alcohol, water, etc. I’m left with a small quantity of coffee extract/concentrate. Not a cheap procedure. A pound of coffee yields about 3 oz of extract.

@chefdaniel I make herbal tinctures w/Everclear . They no longer sell it in PA. state stores. Stupid bureaucrats.

There’s no other kind of bureaucrats in my humble opinion. We have both Everclear and a cheaper knock off Golden Harvest that both work well since the alcohol is there as a solvent and evaporates quickly even at ambient temperatures. Are you close to a border with a more sane state government?

@chefdaniel ; A bottle last a few years ,tolls and gas puts it out of reach. My niece resides in NJ, I had her get me one. She thought it was odd because of my 15 yrs of sobriety.

That sounds rather nice! I presume as it’s a scmaltzler it’s non-menthol?

Yes, absolutely non-menthol. I think the dominant note is unsweetened licorice herb and little else. A nice dark, mellow but slightly bitter note (similar in that way to unsweetened black coffee) that is very easy to snuff.

I love coffee, but I have only ever tried three coffee snuffs. I got some Mocha snuff from the Mullins and Westley shop in Covent Garden. It was a Wilsons production, going by the tin, and it was foul. I bought a small tin of Poschl Grado out of curiosity, and once I had got over the surprise of it being mentholated it was just about OK. Then I got some of the Chef’s Fleur de Cafe. It is mindbogglingly good. It smells like coffee and it is the most beautiful deep glossy black colour. There is no need to try anything else - Daniel has nailed it. You need some now - provided he has any left…

My snuff of choice used to be Snuff Store’s Cafe Noir, which is great, but ever since i tasted Abraxas Café 11, which is divine, i rarely snuff anything else. In a way it is kind of tragic, Abraxas dulled my will to even try new snuffs.

Got some FUBAR Fugazi that I’ve sort of enjoyed a pinch of from time to time, but it’s been hanging around as I’ve never tasted coffee quite like that, so I tried chucking a quarter of a tin of Viking Dark as well, and that mix is rather nice. (Still doesn’t beat SG Black Coffee/Snuffstore Cafe Noir, though.)

I worked with a fellow who would snuff fine ground coffee, I tried it and it is kind of nice. Grant it there is no nicotine in it. He also snuff hops flower and chewed candied ginger. I let him try several of my coffee snuffs [I have most of them] he liked the grado cafe. So I let him keep the tin.
