What’s everyones favourite alcoholic tipple to drink whilst taking a pinch? I find port particularly agreeable…
Marston’s Old Empire at 5.7% That And A good SP In Mind Blowing.
Works for me!
sweet ,sweet necter
Great with toasts.
It really depends a lot of which snuff I’m currently using. Generally a bourbon is my choice. But could be anything from a nice red wine, gin, honey rum, or even just a malty brew. There are lots of great combinations, why limit yourself to just one.
Wow. Where do you find “The Happiest Drink in the World”?
LOL
Badbusinessman - I recommend you don’t even try, unless you like sweet poison of course. My tipples are Lambs Navy Rum Cognac (Hine antique if possible) Beaujolais Chilled Frascati Carlsberg Special Brew Ok, so I’m a drunk…
Aye, grog is good with snuff.
yep!!
Oranjeboom And Tom Buck Screws You Up.
whatever your having will be fine thank you.
Vodka, neat, clean, and doesn’t ruin the scent of the snuff… Although, I must admit, it really doesn’t enhance it a whole lot either… I do think that the Vodka helps unlock some of the bouquet of some snuffs and makes it a bit more aromatic.
I have to add my favorite combination although it’s not booze. I like an iced latte with S.M. 500! It’s like a frosty mint something or other, really goes well! I suppose you could add some Jamisons to the latte and then it would be back on topic!
on the rocks
SNuffster - if you like Carlsberg Special Brew, you should check out if any other Danish Beer is available in your area! I like very much Carl’s Special, which I believe is the name Special Brew is sold under in Danmark. If I remember correctly, while I was living in the US (NE PA) some of my friends there, did tell me that they knew of various Danish Beers being sold in the US. Another very good beer for not too strong snuffs is Guinness and Young’s Double Chocolate Stout. I have great respect for the Irish style Whiskeys, but almost never drink strong alcohol. I prefer beer or wine.
Carlsberg is good. I’ve also put away a few of the Carlsberg Elephant Malt & Jacobsen Dark Lager. Anchor Steam, Icehouse & Steinlager are good with scotch snuffs.
Troutstalker Elephant? Can you get that in the US? Awesome! Jacobsen Dark Lager would be a Carlsberg too, since the founder of the Carlsberg Brewery was Carl Jacobsen. Oh man, here we have more than 150 different breweries, and every town has its own taste so to speak Carlsberg and Tuborg pale lagers are the least interesting beers around, but the ones that are exported world wide. I wish that you could taste some of the local brands, that are only made for local consumption :o)
Yeah I bet they are good. I think there is that problem worldwide. Like there are thousands of small ‘micro brew/craft brews’ in the US. A lot of which are superb, some of the best beers I’ve had, but they are not exported at all. Some brews don’t even leave the state that they are made in. The ones that seem to make export are the mass producers that are not necessarily the best because they are just pushed out without any love going into it. Like they were made by robots.
Lagavulin is my favorite scotch. It goes well with any tobacco.
And fig newtons go well with any scotch.
FarleyFlavors - Yes Carlsberg is made by license all over the world. I also heard that Carlsberg made in Africa it’s not even close to what we get here in Danmark! The sweetness that you mention could very well be some attempt to meet Anglo-Saxon taste, which is quite different from the Scandinavian. As for the high alcohol, this is something we like in our beer too. There is a rather large variety of local micro breweries making beer of 7-10% alcohol beers, and they are becoming increasingly popular. Though traditional Danish beer is seldom more than 5% which is not considered high. Beer was used for thirst quenching and was always perfectly socially acceptable. Now for SNUFF that’s a different story :o) We used to be great snuffers here, but not so anymore. However, I have begun noticing that more and more kiosks in supermarkets and elsewhere, have begun selling swedish style snus! I used to take snus as well, but I find it totally impossible to have a beer with a “pris” as we call it, in my mouth. I did try the portion-snus, or pouches, but find that it feels like it must feel to eat toilet paper! Tobacco for the nose, and beer for the pallet :o)
FarleyFlavors - He he forgot to tell that “Farley” sounds exactly like the Danish word “Farlig” meaning “dangerous”, so your nick is “DangerousFlavors” :o)))
I’ve had a couple of glasses of Bush Mills (orange label) this evening. Went well with Wilson’s Best SP and F&T Macouba.
fixin2, Which variety of Four Roses are you sipping? HRhuffinsnuff, IPA are great as well. My current IPA favorites are from Mad River Steelhead, Lagunitas Maximus & Sierra Nevada Anniversary Ale. But my favorite beer at the moment is Anchor Liberty Ale. And like I’ve mentioned before in another post, grappa goes great with toque espresso. And Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Barleywine goes great with Samuel Gawith Honey.
Carlsberg here in the UK just tastes like all British lager, slightly funny tasting water that is way to fizzy and cold! It’s made by Tetleys who do a decent proper beer. I opened this thread just as I was unwrapping a bottle of The Glenlivet 15 like Nightcap posted!
celticsnuffer, If you ever find yourself in San Francisco, make sure to visit the Anchor Steam facility. Its a fun tour & you get free beer and sample the whiskies & gin they put out.
Kunugaa - you examplify the difference between anglo-saxon and scandinavian beer taste very well I think. Because most Danes find that the English for some strange reason serve most of their beers - stale, bland and warm :O)
Thats the way we like it! English ale is absolutely ruined by forcing it through a nitrogen pump, its like chilling cognac. And for all those chilled Guiness drinkers - Mr Guiness would spin in his grave, try the bottled at room temp. Now if you want good beer, travel to Lancashire and have a pint of Thwaites, nothing else compares.
Now I do like English beer, but I also had to learn how to appreciate it first. The Danish beer tradition is very similar to the Bavarian tradition, and so most Danes go “eeeww a stale beer!?” if they have an English beer served in the English way. We drink mostly beer for the thirst, and only since perhaps 1990, have we seen a lot of little micro breweries shooting up everywhere. Some of them experiment with medieval recepies and some with both Asian and English style beers. But with all due respect - I prefer the the classical Danish/German beers. It’s just two different traditions - like discussing whether blue or green is the most beautiful. I like both, for different reasons. But as for warm beer? - still makes me go “eeeww” hahaha. :o) A little twist - I once went to visit some friends in NYC Lower East side. I wanted to give them a present, and after a long search I managed to find a decent bottle of Italian Barolo red wine. I present my gift to my friends - and what happens next? It goes RIGHT in the fridge! Ha ha ha. :o) When I told them that this was not a very good idea, they both looked at me with a completely helpless expression - they were obviously aware that something was wrong - but not WHAT. Ha ha ha, in the end I didn’t pursue the matter, but just avoided drinking it when later in the evening it was brought out on the table :o)
All tastes are valid. I love continental beers and despite it being seen in England as a beer for lunatics, Carlsberg SB is one of my all time favourites. Now that is a beer that has to be served as cold as you can get it, but it really does pack some great flavour, as well as alcohol of course! English beer is an aquired taste thats for sure.
I absolutely agree. And Danish beer taste has been developed over ca 1000 years, and the English over a similar span of years, so of course they differ. Of English beers, I like Old Speckled Hen and Young’s Double Chocolate Stout very much! I just came across this web page, which might interest you. I like the Beer from Thy very much, especially the Organic (ecological) ones - enjoy and cheers http://www.xs4all.nl/~patto1ro/denbrew.htm
HR, you don’t like beer made with wheat? Sierra Nevada Wheat Beer is pretty good.
I like the sound of arrogant bastard ale! Its sounds like Chimay - Belgian trappist beer, in single, double and triple strengths - great stuff.
Sounds like a micro-brewery? A lot don’t last that long.
HR, I’ve had the New Belgium Trippel as its still available at my favorite store for alcohol. BevMo (beverages & more). They carry everything from a huge selection of wines, whisky etc to a ton of micro/craft brews. There are stores all around CA and they do ship to some states. Its where I get all my bourbon. I have some of the New Belgian 2 Below Winter Ale in the fridge right now and its pretty good. Also used to really like the Fat Tire Amber Ale but not so much anymore. You can see the Trippel here, maybe they ship to your state? New Belgium Trippel One beer I enjoyed that was a limited run ending in 1997 was Samuel Adams Triple Bock. It was a little pricey but at 17.5% was very strong. It poured out almost like syrup, had no carbonation & you drank it warm. You can read the description here. Sam Adams Triple Bock
My Favorite beer is San Miguel. In fact, it’s about time to crack one open. The Kronenburg beer in France was pretty terrible, but for cheap beer- it was still 10X’s better than Budweiser.
I have to say my favorite ‘mass produced cheap beer’ is probably Michelob Lager even though its produced by Anheuser-Busch. They also have some pretty good craft brews like Amber Bock, Marzen & Stone Mill. Look forward to trying one of their seasonal beers Winter’s Bourbon Cask Ale.
I picked up a bottle of some plum brandy tonight, and am right now enjoying it very much with my Wilsons Royal George.
The best is homemady plum brandy. Though I didn’t snuff then. I wasn’t even able to grow a mustache but damn it’s was tasty and boy did I feel happy dizzy.
SLIVOVICA??? That’s Serbian plum brandy :o)
It was on sale when I stopped at the liquor store for a six-pack of newcastle. The guy working said he hadn’t sold a bottle of it yet, so I figured I’d give it a try. I’m pretty new to brandy, but I thought it was pretty damn good.
It’s very diffrent then other brandies in my opinion. I like regular brandy much more, but the plum brandy is unique and awesome in it’s own right.
Good Lord! I know exactly what this is!!! I was a member of a Serbian Orthodox Parish for 4 years! :o)
Not sure if it;s the best but, I’m having a good time with a kick ass Canadian whiskey, (40 Creek), with my home made cuban cigar snuff. I took a Monticristo #2 and put it into the coffee ginder, and it’s kicking my ass right now. 40 Creek is an excellent partner. P.S Canadian Whiskey has the crown!!!
