Bernard Snuff tap boxes

So mine are still decent just drier :frowning: so will they just dry up? Or will the taste turn shitty as well as time goes? It’s hard to keep these wet man it’s a shame I love them so much. So far no taste or smell change. Maybe I should get the big 500g Aecht Altbayerischer. Hopefully the tubs seal well and will keep wet as long as in tub. What are your thoughts? If they keep good in those tubs I’d love to slowly get a tub of each flavor lol but if I could atleast get the Aecht Altbayerischer to stay good & moist for a long time I’d be happier than a pig in shit. Anyone have a big tubba lub of that Aecht Albayerischer Schmalzler ? Or know if any of the other Flavors can be found in bulk?

In my experience Schmalzlers have a limited shelf life of two to three years if stored properly. put each one in a ziplock bag then in an airtight jar and finally store cold in the fridge. This will extend the life a bit. But Schmalzlers are made with animal fats which will turn eventually. If you do get the 500g of Aecht Altbayerischer I suggest Five of these Bernard Schmalzlerfranzl Bemalt 100g or can it in smaller mason jars to insure a vacuum seal for long term storage.

786  The best strategy for large quantities is to decant into glass jars for storage.  The tapboxes will eventually dry out; with some flavors it will change for the worse.  I’ve got an old tapbox of Alt Offenbacher Koestlich which, while still good, is profoundly different and not nearly as good as it was.  My Klostermischung turned hideous within a year.

I haven’t laid eyes on Bernard’s tubs, if they are screw-top like the WoS tubs the snuff should be fine.  The tubs I got from Wilson’s in 2010 are great, the snuff in them is still as fresh as the day I got it.  I live in a cool climate though, ymmv.  If you live in a hot humid climate you may need to store in the fridge.

Schmalzlers tend to dry out rather quickly in my opinion. Those tap boxes are not exactly airtight as well. If you’re not planning on using the snuff frequently, do as the other members suggested - decant them, or at least keep the boxes in a zip lock bag or in a plastic airtight container, like the ones that are used for food.

Kinda sad though since they are not readily available in the US. Like buy a tap box and just walk to the store to get another. Ordering online you want to get the most you can but keeping them fresh man is so hard :frowning: so sad I’m actually depressed Old Mill is my favorite snuff brand but I have to have my Bernards :frowning:

I’ve had a Brasil Doppelfermient I just found in the back of my snuff closet  it has been there for atleast 2 months. It’s was in a snack size ziplock bag inside a 6oz mason jar it is pretty dry but the flavor seems ok to me so far. So I guess they dry out but the flavor seems to last on the Bernard Tap Boxes. So that’s ok I guess I like moist but as long as it holds its flavor I’m a happy man!

Does Bernard offer all their snuffs in 500g or just Klostermischung and Aecht Albayrischer?
