Bernard Offenbacher Kostlich

I ordered 10g of this recently, and am pretty disappointed considering the other Bernard products I have sampled. I get very little scent from it, although there is a slight burn and I do get a little nicotine hit. But, to my nose, it is an easily forgettable snuff. Has anyone else tried this an felt the same way, or is it just me ?

Sit with it. I’ve never tried it but sometimes I’ve had a snuff smell like nothing and then later suddenly the snuff reveals it’s self. Kind like when you’re date goes better then you think it is.

Like bob said just put it aside and come back to it later. I have had snuffs that I thought were terrible at first taste come back and be some of my faves. Also if it is a tap box throw it in a airtight plastic baggie so it does not dry out too much. I do this to all of my tap boxes and I also try to keep menthol and extremely flavored snuffs separated from the plain snuff so no contamination occurs.

Little scent leaves room for and the possibility of improvement and what they said. Most toques I’ve tried started out really bland but as I pinched them more and let them breathe a bit, they’ve all opened up nicely.

I’ve come back to it several times now, and still don’t like it much. It’s got this strange pepper taste or maybe some of the same thing as Samuel Gawith’s Elmo’s Reserve without the huge bite. I agree, it’s the most disappointing of the Bernard snuffs, but… there is room on the shelf, I’ll try it again someday.

I’m a bit suprised to read negative comments on this snuff. I thought it was fantastic, and one of Bernard’s best. I remember all kinds of nuances of flavors in it. Maybe you guys got stale ones. Its a shame Bernard moved this one to a tap box from a sealable glass bottle. Wrong way to go for freshness.

Sometimes a snuff just doesn’t do it for you. Some of the fan favorites are snuffs I can’t stand. I will always hate packards club, toque peanut butter, and every single McCrystals (their base tobacco always has a faint gross souriness that either you don’t smell it seems or it makes you hate their snuffs.)

Hey @Z_2K Isn’t it great that there are so many choices? I also agree that it will likely ‘grow on you’. And if not, you can honestly say you have had the experience to try what to many is one of the greats…

it was one of my first snuffs ever and to be honest, i dislike it too. it is true, the taste is rather complex and i am sure it was made with same care as all other Bernards but for me, it doesnt work. just not my cup of tea.

I agree with Xander. This is an amazing snuff. A snuff you just pack your nose with. I love the grind,/texture of it and the smokiness. It’s by far one of Bernard’s best.

I personally really enjoy this snuff. I think that is the kind of snuff that you need to patient with and attempt to pick up all the subtleties in this one. Is it a forthright and in-your-face powerhouse, no. However, it is still an excellent German snuff. I noticed that I need to be in the right mood to appreciate this one.
