Bernard Brasil Doppelt-Fermentiert

I just cracked open a new 10g box of this stuff, and it blew my mind. This has got to be one of the most delicious snuffs out there. It’s my first Schmalzer, and I am terribly impressed with it. I don’t think the 10g is going to last me long enough, though. I run out of 12,5g of Bon Bon fast enough as is, and I’m absolutely in love with this stuff too. I’m plotting a future bulk order of Bon Bon, but does anyone know where you can get Doppelt-Fermentiert in bulk? I can only find it on nicotinerush.com, and then only in the 10g boxes. Thanks guys, and if you haven’t tried this snuff yet, what are you waiting for?

It’s wonderful stuff indeed. Was my first schmalzler, as well. I haven’t seen it anywhere in bulk. Not even on their own site. Such a shame.

I’ve received the following reply from Bernards after inquiring about bulk orders: Toni Alhauser-Clausen (t.alhaeuser-clausen@bernard-schnupftabak.de) “There is only one thing to offer you, to pack the snuff in plastic bags of 100, 200 or 500 grams. In case you would like to order the snuff, we would send you the invoice via email and you will receive the snuff after we received the payment”. The prices for the snuff will be: 100 grams - 25€ 200 grams - 49€ 500 grams - 110€ They could not tell how much shipping would be.

Tasty though Bernard’s is, that’s some expensive bulk order prices for a plastic bag of snuff.

£100 for 500 g?!?!?!? That is extortionate! Stefan

I pay R39.12 for 10g when I order from the US. Direct from Bernards, 10g will be R23.75, a difference of R15.37. So for every 2 tins, I will have a third for free plus change. With our exchange rate , it’s cheaper for me to order from Europe than from the UK and in the USA, Bernards are more expensive than in the UK. If I should order 500g direct from Bernards, a 10g of snuff will only be R19.80, almost half the price as when ordering from the US.

It looks a lot cheaper to me than to keep buying the tap boxes. I assume quoted the price is for Köstlich. Bernards sells them at €2.95 each (10g). 50 of them would cost €147.50, but the bulk bag of 500g is €110. Perhaps not as big a bargain as other snuff makers, but still a considerable discount. On their shop, the ordinary snuffs & all the schmalzlers are cheaper than Köstlich. Köstlich is in the “Andere Sorten” section, which I guess is the premium grade snuff.

Man check out the cool bottles of snuff. Anybody know what the different ones are? I’d love to try a few but would rather not go into it completely blind (though that has never been much of a deterrent before)

I think they are sold empty, except for the gift sets which come with a package of snuff.

Well that would explain why I could not figure out for the life of me what any of them were (except the gift sets–and even then I did not know if it was an assortment or not) Anyway…cool bottles Does anyone have one and do you actually use it

@ Snifs: You fill the bottles up with snuff, they have a cork stopper I believe, then when you remove the stopper you pour out a small mountain on the back of your hand and then you proceed to pack your nose. Incredible sensation! a nose packed with Bernard’s schmalzler’s.

Spot on with that description. That was how how I was taught to snuff Schmalzlers when I lived in Regensburg in the mid-70s.

Thanks saucy_jack and ermtony Might pick one up at some point and give it a try

I just tried this for the first time recently and it’s very nice indeed. Chocolate and raisins to the fore. A bit too sweet for all-day use but what an excellent after-dinner snuff. Does this have flavourings added or is the aroma just from the tobacco and fermentation ?

surely these ones come with snuff in? http://mrsnuff.com/bernards/snuffs/bernard-pariser-no2 http://mrsnuff.com/bernards/snuffs/bernard-civette-extrafein i ordered some Brasil Doppelt-Fermentiert, so i’m glad to read its so well liked

@BradMajors Yes, you’re snuffing rotten fruit and molasses up your nose!

@AllanH: Who would have thought rotten fruit and molasses could be so tasty ?!

@zacclowes: yes both of them (Pariser No.2 and Civette Extra-Fein) are snuffs made by Bernard from older reciepes (Pariser No.2 is from 1912 if i remember right). You can get them only in this nice glass bottles. Both a dry and have some serious sharpness to them. Give them a try !!
