Bernard's

As you may know, I’m quite a fan of SG. After some trepidation, I ordered some German snuff. My first go round, really, aside from Packard’s, which I wasn’t very fond of. I ordered: Aecht altbayerischer Schmalzler Alt Offenbacher Kostlich Bernard Feiner Offenbacher Kardinal Bernard Gekachelter Virginie Poschl Schmalzler Perlesreuter Waldler Fresko As a snuff fan quite fond of plain tobacco’s, I was instantly pleased with the kardinal, virginie, and the kostlich. My first snuffs of the Schmalzler and the Fresko were strange, the fruity sweetness was off putting. I can’t say how. But now, I’m an insane fan. I can stuff it up my nose and I’m in 7th heaven. really it’s genius! the only drawback is the congestion of the nose. ah! but what divine snuffs!

The Aecht altbayerischer schmalzler is a favorite evening snuff of mine on occasion. It is very hard to explain the aroma of this one - but I like it. I haven’t touched mine for a few weeks. I will be breaking out that black tap-out tin with gold lettering as soon as I get home from Ash Wednesday Mass.

An excellent choice of snuffs there!

@ermtony: thanks. to be honest the idea of maple syrup and snuff revolted me - but there is something magical about it, you know?

And I’ll second that, they are really nice snuffs.

I love Bernard’s. They have an outstanding selection of traditional German snuffs. The Pöschl fresko is a schmalzler. I’m not sure what it means, but quite a few schmalzlers are labled as “fresco” or “fresko”. Pöschl is not my favorite company, but their schmalzlers are excellent. I’m glad you dicovered a new side of the snuff experience, Jack.

some good snuffs you’ve chosen, if you can get your hands on them you might like to try Sternecker Echt Fresko, Sternecker Fresko and Sternecker Straubinger Schmalzler. Only available at German shops I think. Enjoy your snuff!

Bernard’s make excellent snuffs and schmaltzers. I haven’t tried Feiner Offenbacher Kardinal or Gekachelter Virginie yet, but am certain that they are great.

I, too, love Bernard’s snuffs, with one exception so far–the Zwiefacher. It brings back unpleasant memories of my foolish youth. A friend of mine from those days was visiting and I had him take a whiff. “Whoever likes that stuff,” he observed, “never abused Robotussin!”

I have found the Bernards to be quite a learning experience. I have had some astounding snuff, and the Zwiefacher just winds my watch, so to say. These are some well crafted snuffs, and have a lot to offer. Some are all day snuff, and some are dessert. Everybody deserves a little dessert now and then! It would be time well spent reading all of the Bernard reviews at Snuffreviews.

Good morning Jack I’ve tried the Civette Extrafein, Aecht altbayerischer and the Swiefacher from Bernards. Love the Swiefacher, the Civette Extrafein is interesting, I really feel I paid for the bottle rather than the snuff, but I get nothing much from the Aecht altbayerischer. Reading this thread just now and I shoved a huge portion of it up both sides. Slight tobacco like smell and… nothin’! Old tin? Unappreciative snuffling? (-; I do have the Kardinal on my wishlist, will more than likely include it in my March order.

All great snuffs from Bernard. My favourites are Brasil Feinst and Alt Offenbacher Kostlich.
