Okay, i am new to all this Nasal Tobaccos, and I would like some help on what i should begin with? Any tip tricks ect .I am in the USA looking for an online store ( In The USA ), cause my town doesnt have any nasal tobaccos. Heard of Mr.Snuff dot com and heard great things about them. When i used to smoke in my younger days I didm
t like menthol cig`s and I damn sure i will NOT like menthol nasal tobaccos either…LOL I am sure i will / might like the berries, nuts, fruits, vanillas, whiskeys, cloves. So any suggestions for a NEWBIE? Thank you for your help in advance. OzzyOzz
You will receive many recommendations I’m sure and I also know that many people in the USA order regularly from Mr Snuff. In terms of what to try first, I would say a medium grind medium moisture snuff, with no added flavour beyond what the blender puts in it. There will be people along recommending all sorts of things but a good one to start with might be Viking Blond. I’ve got a slightly weird relationship with Viking blond, in that I didn’t like the smell when I first opened the tin, but I think that was because of some residual buildup of aromas in the tin and once they dispersed I really liked it. It’s incredibly easy to take, the last thing you want for your first snuffing experience is something that is so fine it hits the back of your throat, or that it is so moist or coarse that it makes your nose run like hell or falls out of your nose completely!
You will not be able to find an online store in the US, our benevolent overlords have made it illegal to sell snuff or cigarettes by mail within the country. So it’s pretty much mistersnuff or Toque for us. I’d probably lean toward the Toque line to start, shipping is reasonable, good quality, perhaps the 10-for-the-price-of-9 10g. sampler. Have at it.
Be sure to have Toque Spanish Gem in the sampler if you decide to go for that. It`s the one that got me started and still is one of my favourite Toque snuffs.
I would second @Mouse here. The man behind Toque - @Roderick - is a member of this forum. I would suggest that you go for the 9 for 10 offer as Mouse recommended, but if you get in touch with him first I am sure he would be happy to put together a beginner-friendly selection for you. Good luck, and let us know how you get on!
I agree with the above. You should also check out some of the samplers that are available on Mr. Snuff. A great way to check out a variety of manufacturers, styles and flavors at a bit of a discount. Good luck and hope you enjoy your journeys!!!
Thank you all for your great advice for a beginner !! I knew about not selling cigs online in the US, but I didn
t know snuff was in the same boat. Now I know!! So Mr.Snuff is the way to go.Keep the advice coming I will read them all and let you know what I choose and tell you how I like it. Thanks again. OzzyOzz
As a non menthol (I think menthol cigarettes taste like synthetic crap) smoker I want to say I really like menthol snuff. It’s entirely different from menthol cigarettes. Has a really good nasal clearing effect.
Great advice above. I had to learn off bone dry American scotches… while difficult at first, it makes everything else seem easy cheesy!
Most people I have met that know about snuff tried it once with their grandfather and, it was the Scotches. They wont even try my semi moist snuff for fear of the burn and, sneezing the Scotch caused.
My big tip would be not to neglect the plain/natural snuffs. Stuff like Kendal Brown (one of the Gawiths’), most of the Viking line, Black Rappee, any Toast, South African snuffs, etc. etc. There’s great scented stuff out there but the plain snuffs are the most interesting IMO. With a scented snuff you can say “oh it smells like sandalwood and musk” but with plain snuffs you’re just experiencing the tobacco itself which is indescribable and not something you smell in ordinary life. That makes the plain snuffs magic to me.
I am new to nasal snuffing too. Can anyone clarify how far up I’m supposed to get the snuff? I was thinking just the “bowl” of the nose to keep it out of the sinuses, but, it doesn’t seem to be going far enough in because it just drips out. Maybe the problem is that I’m using dry American Scotch snuff (waiting on my order from Mr. Snuff to arrive! ) I’m using Honey Bee, but it just makes gooey gobs. I think I’m doing it wrong LOL
@stormtracker_wv Another member @basement_shaman has recommended wetting inside your nose with water. I also remember reading something about pinching your nose right after you snuff. I use to drop like a little bit out of my nose but, since I started squeezing my nose after nothing drops unless I blow it out or drip. There was a really nice diagram I saw about snuffing and, where it should go but, I forgot what thread it was in. Basically yeah, just the bowl.
To get a taste of a range of different snuffs and to try some of the “best in class”, I’d recommend the following: Viking Dark: Good, strong, plain, medium grind and moisture; F&T High Dry Toast: Quite dry and fine, so a bit more difficult, but worth the trouble. Some people don’t use anything else. Toque: Pick a handful of flavors that seem to appeal, but try to include Spanish Gem and/or SP Extra Dholakia White: Get a small tin, just to try one of the most challenging and interesting snuffs on the market, even if it’s difficult. Abraxas St Casura: Try this one and/or any other in the Abraxas range that appeals.
Thanks @Igglet, I will try that method, and thanks for the recommendations @JakartaBoy. Honestly, I really think it may just be the snuff–I know Honey Bee is an old favorite (especially in the Southern U.S.), but it’s just so mild & sweet, as soon as it gets wet it just turns into basically syrup I am SO excited to try some of the European style
Just received my 1st shipment from Mr. Snuff, 8 different flavors, had no idea what to try first. For some reason, I was drawn to the beautiful little blue & silver box of Poschl’s “Gletscher Prise”–OMG AMAZING!!! Why nasal snuffing ever fell out of fashion, I have no idea LOL this is GREAT! And it DID work a LOT better than that gummy ol’ Honey Bee I am a happy camper
Thanks to all for making taking this up a LOT less scary
Yeah. A lot of American snuffs burning like the dickens and, are pretty hard to take. I think all of them @stormtracker_wv. Poschl was my first and, I considered it the best thing I could have started on. Redbull from Poschl I find to be one of the least burning snuffs I have encountered so far. I am still pretty new to snuffing by the way but, I did tons of research a long time before ordering snuff.
@stormtracker_wv, none of my recommendations are either mild or sweet. Some of them, particularly HDT and Dholakia White, are often said to be “difficult” to take, but I believe that if you have experience with tobacco use, then it’s an interesting challenge rather than an insurmountable obstacle.
@JakartaBoy, I am looking forward to trying some of the “natural” tobacco types, and like you, @Igglet, I did a lot of research online, but there is just SOOOO much to chose from, it was hard to decide After 3 uses of the Poschl Gletscher Prise, I changed gears to Samuel Gawith’s “Grousemor”–oh man, what a wonderful snuff! Complex…more powdery than the coarser Poschl but not as dry as an American Scotch, and this made it easy to do the “swipe and wipe” technique (get a pinch, then put finger up nose and just wipe it all around in there). This snuff is AMAZING and I tasted & smelled it for a long time. I smelled…mild lavender? And maybe a little bit of rose petal, and…something like the smell of clean sheets on a clothesline
It made me think of a warm summer afternoon the whole time it was in my nose, gonna be hard to stay out of that tin
Oh I will have to try the Grousemor. I think my favorite so far is Alpine from Poschl. My local cigar shops only has Poschl sadly. It’s like a fruity cool breeze in your nose. I thought Gletscher kind of tasted like a mild barn yard. Some how that seem’d good to me. Course I do the bacon cheese snuff from toque though.
