Badges

W

We don’t need no stinking Badges!  (sorry could not resist) But, I have always enjoyed this site for the lack of counts and tally’s Not a complaint. There are far more deserving contributors of this site who have given their best to us all, you know who you are! All I know is that they must be tolerant of usYanks. This site has been a major help in extending my life for almost three years now, for that I am grateful.

A

I’m quite proud of my 1000 comments badge. Last time I got a badge was in the army for markmanship. And cheers Whalen! You’ll live to 110 at least.

W

It is a proud achievement. I just spent some time parsing the list of accomplishments garnered by many of those here, and I am quite sure they are all deserving. Some five year badges make me feel like just a pup. And that is one hell of a lot of good, bad, and ugly snuff eh? But I guess that is the point of it all really.

J

What are Badges and points??? I just earned one ( my first, and 7 points!!!)Sorry for my ignorance, I have only been a member 4 a week and have not become familiarized with all it’s features so there is probably athread that explains it but if you wanna paraphrase it would be appreciated!!!

B

Yeah I havent been on much but I have apparently missed a lot! What is with the points?

B

they’re new and I’am hopeing you can trade them for bottle caps. Though I think it’s just for stats and braging rights and to encourage participation. It’s like the site saying thanks for having so much to say.

X

Chris says if you guys think its too silly, we will drop it. Give it a few days and see what opinions develop. I’m neutral, but so far there seem to be more positve comments than negative ones. We also have the ability to create badges, so there is potential for other things. The points are simply a value system for the various badges.

J

Obviously the points will earn you something free and wonderful. I never liked points systems on forums but I guess they are popular.

J

Oh jeez, thanks for the email with a badge for my first comment.

A bit like a gold star for good behaviour.

J

I like it. Is there a badge page?

X

email notifications is all automatic. You can tweak your own personal settings to email you or not every time I do something like write @juni. Check on your profile (click your own name). I think there is a badge page, but only viewable to the mods, you can click on the badges themselves for a bit of info. just doing something like saying @juxtaposer gets you the name-dropping badge

J

Thank you,  @Xander

X

odd, that didn’t work

A

Keep it, it’s fun, we don’t have to take it too seriously - but as the proud owner of a four year and 2500 comments badge I would say that I suppose:)

B

Got a 4 year badge when I logged in today…wow didn’t realize I had been here 4 years already.

B

You should get the black books avatar badge.

C

The mods might need to come up with some custom badges, maybe for reviews or something.  What are your thoughts @Xander?

O

badges? points? I’m still trying to figure out the changes that took place when snuffhouse suddenly started to look like a “myface” account.

Nice to see I have a 4 year badge.  Thanks snuffhouse!

C

Woof, this place is far from MySpace.  I’m sure there are add-ons that could make it like that if you would like.

W

I do like the idea of clicking the abuse button every time cstokes4 posts! I know he has abused a rather obscene amount of Grand Cairo! I personally am taking no abuse for my love of Fubar though.

N

I found this forum independently after finding snuffstore from internet to spice up my life a bit. snuff was totally a new thing to me and thank you all because I have learnt so much about it in here. I bet snuff and snuffing is totally strange thing for so many nicotine receptor worshippers so if this forum evolves I will be also more succesfull.
(have been studying here 2 years now =))
cheers!

B

this site is great. Just like pipes snuff definatly has a learning curve and getting some help can really help alot.

W

Yay! 5 year, and 1000 coments badges for me.

Stefan

J

5 years! I just recently discovered snuff. It is like a whole world I never knew existed. Would you say use off snuff has increased in the last year? Is it growing trend? I usually indulge in pipe smoking and it feels like that has been a growing trend for a couple of years.

X

@cstokes4 yeah something like that. We can plan more. I thought it would be cool to have a Snuff Quincenturion badge for anyone who has sampled more than 500 snuffs. We’ll have to design one if there are any claiments.

W

@Xander - Do you have to sample 500 snuffs, or claim to sample 500 snuffs? One of those is doable…!

X

obviously it would be honor system. Compare to the Wine Century Club: http://www.winecentury.com/

S

 I’ve been a Snuffhouse member since Feb 2011 but I don’t have a First Anniversary badge…

B

Hopefully the new badge system will encourage participation.Don’t you think!

X

@Sloth, yeah I’ve noticed that some people are not getting them. Technical glitch? Let me ask @cstokes4 to look into it.

E

Hmmm… I can’t be far off that! Not sure I have the patience to count them all though.

A

I like them, they don’t have to be taken overly seriously.

B

Very nice! I would say it’s the case that most users of snuff don’t take things overly seriously, Snuffster. I had to laugh at CStokes badges…he even got a ‘photogenic’ badge haha!!!

N

Hey where’s my Combo Breaker badge, I got 7 badges in one day but I didn’t get the combo breaker and its the coolest sounding badge I’ve seem so far :(

T

Just checked my profile after reading this and it says I’ve made 99 comments. I like the agree button and don’t see anything to complain about in this whole badge and points thing. And what better way to earn my 100 comments badge than by posting a comment in the discussion of badges?

W

@TomStrasbourg , Congrats I hope!

B

@ Bob, I do need a Black Books avatar badge!   Been on a Netflix British sitcom binge lately.  Highly reccomend Peep Show as well.

W

I think @cstokes, @JariT, @MrSnuff and myself have bragging rights this week, we are the only 4 with 5 year badges woooooohoooooo!!

Stefan

S

@Walrus1985 - Yes, but you haven’t got the Name Dropper badge, even though you just @Named three people!

J

@Whalen Just got a 100 comments badge.  I feel the newness.  hahaha

B

“Posthumous Troll-Badge”:        Mateo

                                                    Whistlrr

It’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock n’ roll.

W

Lolol @Sloth and @Bart both of ya damn right. Good old Mateo, the complete idiot and whistlrr the rambling, neurotic, precious woman. It must be a good 2 years since they were around.

Stefan

A

Not forgetting good old Hydrahead, who sent me death messages like ‘Die you pig bastard’ etc etc. He really was crackers; he would apologise for his behaviour, get forgiven, then send another message like the first, directly after the apology. He sent one telling me to ‘f%£@ing choke on my bangers and mash’. Clearly, we Brits are troughing sausages down our necks 24/7.

I was surprised we got rid of Walt/Mateo so easily, I was quite surprised at his lack of tenacity.

J

Did you guys get that whistlirr was disabled and not actually typing but having her computer type everything she said? Hence the precious neurotic ramblings.

P

Do we need a “^ five bro” badge?

X

@Pot Poe Yes. but it was bru

B

Yes, ^5…hahah! And Whistlrr did threaten a few on here with instant “Kung-Fu Death” if the insults continued…Good times!

B

I just got the name dropper badge. This reminds me of the achivements on xbox not a big deal but usaly nice (except for when you’re really into a game and it takes you out of the experience).

And on the whistlirr subject I think Juxtaposer is right. Plus she was autistic which isn’t easy to deal with. Not saying what she did was appropriate but I do think she deserves some slack. I mean heck if I can cut hydrahead some slack for being insane and still glad he’s gone…

B

Is there a badge for being name dropped? There should be. You goes running the show can tell us or we can all @ someone who is chosen to find out if they get a badge for it.

A

Eh? What’s name dropping in this context? Whatyamean Bob?

M

The badges seem pretty fun. I would have never known that I’ve been here for 3 years without it…and 1000 comments…time flies.

V

Bragging rights that encourage participation? Idiots will just post BS in order to get their silly badges. Just from being on this site you can figure out which people have expierience and seniority, plus it says the date you joined on your profile. These badges really serve no purpose and just create an atmosphere that is not at all like the original laid back snuffhouse I used to know.

B

@Snuffster it’s for doint this @Snuffster but if could be any name of someone on this site. Also when I go to parties I always tell people I know Snuffster (though they always think that snuffster is from knock off of Seasame Street.) See what I mean?

V

You can look at somones profile and see: when they joined, what their role is (admin, ect.), how many comments they have made, how many discussions they have made, how many visits, and the last time they were on, ALL WITHOUT BADGES …

S

@Vitto445 …so…you don’t like the badges?

V

I’ve made my point

H

@Vito455 I’m sorry, I didn’t quite catch that. Tell us how you really feel. Seriously though, I think they are kinda nifty myself.

H

@Vito445 my bad

C

@Vito445: sorry if you don’t like the changes.

Most of the members seem to like the changes.  The way things are now is the they way they will stay for some time.

S

change is good … owners and mods, do what you will, it’s your site … i am but a happy and grateful visitor.

S

+1

L

Man, I’ve been gone a long time.  I log in today and see points and badges.  It’s good to see the site is still active.

W

Bloody hell, there’s a blast from the past! How are you Leman, long time no see?

Stefan

B

Leman must be good …that ground squirrel stuck with him since last year^^^

Good to see you

X

welcome back Leman!

S

Just logged in a posted a comment and was surprised to discover I was receiving badges and points now.  Just surprised myself looking at the stats on my profile.  Seems next month will mark three years since I joined (I thought it was still only two…) and I’ve visited the site nearly 50,000 times.  I don’t really mind the badges,  I’ll just turn off email notifications.  Only thing I’d really change is setting notifications to off by default, or presenting a dialogue box asking people whether or not they want to received them when they sign up/first log in since it was implemented.

S

@Vito445: sorry if you don’t like the changes.

Most of the members seem to like the changes.  The way things are now is the they way they will stay for some time.

The changes are good, but some of us still haven’t received certain badges that we should’ve got…

S

I’d be happy if not getting a badge on a website was the biggest thing I had to worry about though.  I figure sooner or later my 2 year badge and whatever else I qualify for will randomly pop up on my profile.  Maybe the badge system is just overwhelmed by the number of members who qualify for it.  I’m picturing some poor server crying, and wishing that so many of us weren’t so active and hadn’t posted so much before the badge system got put into place.

I think that, for the most part, most of us are beyond the age of spamming message boards to get a little profile trophy.  If the age/maturity level skewed lower, I could see it being a problem.  I’m pretty sure nearly everyone on here has bigger things to worry about than Snuffhouse points, though.  For those who just make spam posts to try and get a shiny, new profile trophy, that’s why forums have mods.  I’m sure they can handle the odd person.

Edit:  Don’t know if it was manual mod intervention or just the system having convenient timing, but the Anniversary badges just popped up as I refreshed the page.  I imagine we’ll all be caught up on them in time.

X

@shikitohno as far as I know the badges can’t be issued manually. I think the system is reacting to the fact that I have been daily going through old threads from 2-4 years ago, and trying to organize them and clean out some dead wood. I think everytime I move something the badge system reacts to it.

C

As @Xander said, the system is slowly crawling through all of the data.

L

Thanks for the welcome back.  I won’t be around as much as I used to be.  Having twins cuts down on the time you have to spend on the internet talking about tobacco.

W

I am slowly crawling thru all the Data myself, have been for years!

L

Where are my comments going?  Every time I log in, my comment total shrinks.  A week ago I was just under 1000, and now I’m under 650.  I wanted that 1000 badge

X

Sorry @leman. we’ve been doing a lot of tidying of very old threads that are no longer relevant. These include old What’s in your nose?" type threads (we had 11 of those at least, most with several thousand comments). Also we had some system issues some time ago that deleted a lot of users, so lots of old threads don’t make any sense anymore.

Wait a minute! They have to make sense? I never read that part before, that explains quite a bit actually!

X

wait for what?

W

Nothing, carry on!

C

Sometimes @Whalen, you are just what the doctor ordered!

Carry on indeed.

L

But if you’re trying to incentivize participation with badges, it doesn’t make sense to remove threads because “they don’t make sense”.

M

Is it even healthy to often make sense?

D

definitely not.

X

@leman, I’m not trying to incentivise with badges. The badges are just for fun. I’m just trying to tidy some things up. Lots of old threads got hit really hard by the deleted user mishap, and reading through them is impossible because 2, 3 or more of the participants comments are missing. If there is any valid information in it at all, I either send it to the archives or library. I’m pretty conservative about what I delete. It doesn’t make sense to keep some of them since they take up more server space and therefore cost more money to maintain them. Also if no one is currently using them or if they have no chance of being bumped back to the surface. Also for some reason the system doesn’t really give out badges to older inactive members unless I move some of the threads around. For instance, some folks who haven’t been on for awhile weren’t getting badges they theoretically would have earned. The badge system has only been in place for a few days now. So for instance, me moving some old threads probably including some of your posts alerted the system that you were an active poster and gave you the badges.

W

Let me get this straight… Best not to try to make sense of the Badges, just enjoy whatever little joy they can bring. Right?
