Back on the Snuff Train

Hello, all! Not sure if anyone here remembers me - it’s been a while. I had set aside my usage of snuff for several months, along with tobacco products for the most part. Fairly recently, I made a friend with whom I have been in the habit of smoking clove cigarettes, which were pleasant for a time; however, I decided a couple weeks ago that I don’t want to smoke anymore - except the occasional social hookah, but that’s another matter. :stuck_out_tongue: I tried snus again recently, fuelled by a predilection for things Scandinavian (I am studying Norwegian/Swedish) and by the research suggesting it to be the least harmful way to use tobacco, but I just couldn’t come to enjoy the flavour - too pungent! And I wasn’t about to pick some flavour that camouflaged the basic taste of the stuff, either. So, here I go again with nasal snuff. Unsatisfied with the Railroad Sweet Scotch from the local tobacconist, I placed an order with Mr Snuff for my old favourites: Bernard Fichtennadel (refreshingly piny), 5/6/7 Photo (like various kinds of incense; remind me of India), and some Fribourg & Treyer (of which I am most fond of the Macouba, with its attar of rose, geranium, etc). I had remembered not particularly liking Molens De Kralingse, but ordered one of the Prins Regent and found I do enjoy it! My friend also enjoys taking snuff with me, though he still smokes like a chimney and uses snus! Anyway, you may be reading more from me again now. I hope to have some good discussions about this very particular niche in the tobacco world!

i remember you! though im off the snuff mostly now haha, really just use snus. you tried white portions or brands reviewed to be mild? i found snus quite weak in flavour to start with, as long as i didnt over-juice it. good to see you back.

@Firestarter0 - I used Offroad portions (non-white), and found them too overwhelming, so I started having them with cinnamon mints to make them more palatable. I do find General white portions milder, though I would still take them with the mints. It’s partially a psychosomatic reaction of my gut to the thought of the strong-tasting juice, more than the actual flavour itself; I psych myself out of it. More concretely, I get this burning-like sensation at the bottom of my throat - is that normal?

i wouldnt say so, but then its been awhile since my first snus haha, all i remember was lip burn. using top lip? not playing with it too much? i find discomfort in throat if im using strong portions in the shower (washing face squeezes it sometimes haha and cant spit it out there like loose). maybe try jakobssons if you get your hands on any, their classic is nice but they seem to be known for excellent flavours (and for good reason too). my favourites at first were jakobssons flader and classic, now i favour skruf as a basic but like to switch to jakobssons strong classic or any strong flavour often. edit- offroad snus… is that a budget V2 snus? i find thunder can cause discomfort actually, forgot because ive only had one can in the past few years.

General Original, White, Strong snuses do have a peppery content, so it may be the source of your burning feeling. I get heartburn if I use General White portion or Original to much. Offroad is a V2 snus, and it is known for over the top flavor. I’d suggest something along the lines of Tre Ankare or General Rustic Blend, both are mild tobacco centric flavors. Oden’s regular strength and Old Ving snus are pretty mild also. No shame in not using snus and only snuff. We won’t blackball you. Welcome back.

Welcome back @Jacobin!!!

What is needed in general to become a die-hard liefelong snufftaker?

For me its a love and appreciation of different scents and of course tobacco :bz

And a lot of ignorance towards people who classify our habit as stupid or so
