For me the negatives are: High cost per gram If you like it, you don’t have much If you hate it, you don’t have much to go back to after your tastes change The snuff generally isn’t in as good of form. Travel size means you take it with you… which means you may lose it. Your thoughts?
when I see sub 25g for sale or trade, I always think it isn’t worth the postage and trouble, unless it is some elusive type of snuff…I suppose sub 25 is good for sampling though…I tend to gamble on larger amounts even if it is an unknown species… :(|)
I love to see Bernards in bulk. Don’t be hating [-X
No, I like them. They’re cheap and if I like it I buy more and if not its not rotting in the back of the drawer like the poster said.
Agreed. 25g is the minimum size I like to buy any snuff in, including new snuffs I’m trying out.
@lunecat that would depend on the snuffer, though I respect your opinion.
So many snuffs I hated/disliked to begin with but grew to like, even love with repeat usage. Eg F&T Seville and SPs Some snuffs, eg F&T French Carotte, which I have a 50g tin of I’ve been trying to like for 3 years. My nose just hates it and I now know that will never change. Your nasal palette evolves. I keep saying I hate single florals, jockey club, and and Royal George. That was 3 years ago. Guess what. I’m going to recorder Toque’s florals and WoS’s JC and RG to see if my palette has changed. And I will be ordering all of them in 25g tins so I get a good taste of all of them again.

I need a bulk Fichtennadel, it may be my favorite snuff, but it is just too much buying their tap boxes. A/P Snuff is not the same!
I like Toque 10 gram tins. They make great a “snuffbox” for day to day transporting. I just use what is in the tin and refill it from bulk or 25 gram tins.
I wish I could buy Taxi Green in at least 25g or better yet 200g.
They have their place. As previously mentioned the 5 and 10 gram containers are good day snuff boxes which i personally use and refill. They are also good for trying snuff that is on the fringe of your comfort zone. Note i am not talking about tap boxes which seem to be universally stale.
No, I don’t hate them. I find them quite useful as mentioned above by others, and reasonably representative of their bulk counterparts if procured while fresh. However, tap-boxes for water based snuffs is right out. :-q Basically it leaves you with WoS, Toque and McChrystal’s. Although I’m perpetually annoyed at McC since their 10g tin is actually 8.5g and their 25g size tin holds 21g. I don’t get why they are so stingy.
I only get 10 grms if that’s the only size available. Mostly because If I like a snuff ten grms is nothing and is gone so quickly.
I prefer 10g tins. I’d rather buy 10G tins even if I wanted 25+
10g tins from Toque are fine and the right size for carrying several different blends around at the same time when traveling. Also - as has been mentioned above - they are good for recycling as snuffboxes for other blends. For any other brand I would go for the 25g size.
I do like the larger tins but over the years I have purchased several mini tins from McChrystals - they are indeed small but to tell the truth they make a great pocket tin/snuff box so I use them all the time for that purpose. For me they work much better than the Wilsons tins. Otherwise, the Toque 10g tins are pretty good - decent seal and size, but the mini’s, just easy to carry around and especially easy to get into and refill.
I’m with @stogie on the utility of the small tins. Matter of fact I have recycled a few Silver Dollar tins as they work nicely as a tap box and once you have the hang of it, are easy to open and refill. And today I have a McChrystal’s tin of miniscule size (formerly held smokers blend) that I loaded a days worth of Hedges L260 into. Its small enough to tuck in a front pocket and big enough to get my dainty little fingers into for a pinch. As for value, ability to truly appreciate a new snuff or things of that sort- I am in absolute agreement. The disparity in price per gram on small tins when larger sizes are available is plainly obvious, as is the ability to truly appreciate a new snuff from a tiny sample is certainly something I have noted before.
As a newb i rather like the small sized tins so far as 1) they have allowed me to amass a huge variety for little investment while taking up little space 2) I see no need to decant such a small quantity, so i have no expense yet in jars / no lost space for storage and 3) I got a little nervous when I got a few 25g thinking “What am i going to do with all of this if I do not like this?”

If nothing else, stash it away and revisit it later. I, as others have learned that what we may not like today could become a favored snuff down the road. Then there is always the willing recipient who will usually take/trade whatever you have.
I like small tins! I get most of my nic through snus and vape, so a 10g tin might take me months to finally finish off.
