I’m wondering if anyone ever had a incident like this and if I should think it was snuff related? I’m a migraine sufferer but did not have a full blown migraine in a very long time. I take a prevental which I find that it helps. Yesterday morning I went to work feeling fine. I did have a very stresfull morning at work and I know stress is a big trigger. But I’ve had harder days. And suddenly I started sweating terribly and felt the migrin coming on. Luckily my boss agreed that I look bad and said I should go home. My question is this. I’ve snuffed plenty of different snuffs and nothing happened to me before. I do realize that the schmslzers tend to shoot all the way back yo my throat. I usaaly try to get it out through my mouth. But yesterday right before leavening to work I opened a fresh tin of Viking Dark. I took a good pinch and felt that same landing on my throat. By the time I came to work. I felt I had to spit but could not get it out. So I took my water bottle and cleared my throat. I’m wondering if the little bit of snuff getting rinsed in to my stomach could of caused this migraine symptoms? I’m still not ok. Once I get a migraine its hard to get rid of the symptoms.
The only thing I can think of as being somewhat comparable that feeling you get when you get a large nic hit that your body isn’t prepared for - the sweats, nausea, etc. Caveat: I suffer from persistent headaches which share symptoms and triggers with migraines but I haven’t been diagnosed with migraines.
That’s why I’m thinking/asking maybe rinsing my throat down my stomach might of caused it? I know what your saying. I got that in the passed smoking an ocastional cigar that was too mild or too fresh. And sometimes too strong. But I made sure usually to eat before. But lately I snuffed plenty before even eating. And interestingly this happened after breakfast.
My mother used to suffer from migraines, and I have at those occasions given her snuff which has cured her INSTANTLY. What I gave her back then was Poschl Gawith apricot. Too much nic can give similar symptoms to what you describe, not to mention stress alone, dehydration minus sweating, allergies, deficiencies can also cause migraines. Red wine can help, but also make it worse if its “just” a normal migraine. Cigarettes can prevent migraines, but dont start smoking cause of that, coffee can help too, but not strong coffee. Migraine medicine can work one day and fail the other, thats just how it is. You can pay a visit to your doctor for another type, but that type may or may not work too. Pills for migraines are weak anti-depressants, and have varying effects thereafter. Some studies along with old home remedies suggest that stimulants can greatly help with migraines, but no one here (educated or not) can give you a diagnosis without actual and extensive physical examination. Wish you get better, and God bless.
Also, always eat before you get some *ine in your system. If I drink coffee or have a cig or snuff before eating, i feel like poop for hours.
@Rogue thanks for your input as many of the things you mentioned I’m very familiar with and hearing it from another person just confirms it even more. I try very hard to stay away from most triggers . but since life comes with certain stresses that you can’t avoid at times I feel that the snuff makes me feel a little relieved at times. Caffeen is a known trigger for a lot of people but on the other hand most over the counter pills for migraines come with caffeen. Go figure. Sometimes it has s reverse affect I guess. I drink a lot of water since I’m trying to loose weight and I also walk a few miles a few times a week in the morning. Which I haven’t done this week. I wonder if that caused me to over stress. That walk really is good for me.
@Friendlyman taking walks can be great, especially walking meditation in natural environments. Are you allergic to anything? Any intolerances and so on? And yeah, caffeine is a very interesting drug, which never fails to backfire if youre not careful.
I used to get terrible migraines. I found that for me they were triggered by not eating properly. I also found that if I paid attention to the scintillating scotoma the migrane would gradually diminish and go away. Still get them now and then, though not nearly so powerful or incapacitating, but haven’t found a trigger lately that would explain them.
@Mouse Any funny history of hormones in your family?
wouldn’t know, I was adopted at birth and am just now, at the age of 65, proceeding to find out my birth-mother’s (and thus my own) name. Genetic testing has revealed close to 1000 second, third, and forth cousins though, so I’m on the track of a blood family.

@Mouse ah, that can make things harder. Wish you all the luck though, and God bless.
i suffer migraines. in fact i have one now, numbed with my usual cocktail of co-codamol, caffeine and snuff. seriously. codeine is my effective painkiller (because i can take upto around 100mg without noticing much in the way of side effects unless its for a couple of days though i usually stick to 30-60), and snuff and caffeine are vasoconstrictors, which while in effect reduce the pain from the changes in blood vessels in the head and help control the fog that i get during a migraine.
@Firestarter0 Careful with the liver…!
Just amazing how we all react differently to the same smells and tastes. One that gives joy to one person, causes illness in another. I was just thinking about that at cereal section of the grocery store yesterday. With a hundred or more cereals to pick from could there really be that much difference in how our bodies reacts???
I am quite the opposite here, in that I have had a headache for years due to damage do.e when I took ill and was told they would never go away. I started snuff and found the headache pull away. Its not gone completely, but its much better than before. I have not had a migrane in almost a year. I dont know if its the snuff but if it is, great. Did read how the Queen of England took snuff for treatment of migranes. Again, only anecdotal from my self assessment, but I love snuff and if it works for me, more the better.
@rogue yeah, i dont take the codeine for long periods. normally during a migraine at night because the pain prevents me actually sleeping, or just if i need to do something during the day like work. if i catch the migraine early i can often control it quite quickly before it really disables me.
Since I take medication to prevent the migraines from coming most of my migraines usually end up with more of the symptoms then the headache it self. Like the nausea and constipation. Its awful. All I could and want to do at that point is sleep. I try to eat and drink on time during the day and not to miss out on sleep. This time I got it it was probably from the nic. I’m wondering is Viking dark is considered an extremely strong snuff? That’s the only change I did that morning.

Caffeine tends to trigger a very bad headache in me. I can get way with the amount in tea, but really no more than that, If I feel the need for caffeine then I’ll drink decaf, which has some caffeine, about 15-20mg compared to 80mg in regular coffee
80% of all headaches are caused by lack of water. I used to get headaches every night. Stopped drinking soda and drinks with a lot of sugar, just a lot of tea, and I almost never get them any more. The only time I have got a headache from snuff directly was from the Himtaj, and Wos jockey club. One or the other or both are too perfume scented for my taste. But perfumes on people give me raging headaches in general.
I only drink decaf coffee. I stay away from chocolate and anything with it. And I agree with you @coreymillia While some snuffs dont bother me at all. Anything with a perfume flowery scent is a trigger. For example, I just pulled out the Paul Gotard Black Night Snuff just before I ran to work. Since I got it in my last order. I thought let me carry it around for a day and see how it is. I guess its not one for me. I just don’t like the flowery smells it gives off. It has a sweeter smell in the side as well but just cant make out what it was since that other smell just bothered me to much. I don’t want to insult anyone or trying to be rude. Because I do understand whats not good for me is gold for someone else. But for second I thought, who used the men’s room last and used a half a can of deodorizer? Then I just figured I had this in my nose. I just can’t stand these flowery smells.
