Just curious - since I quit the cigs and switched to snuff I have started running again. I was really pleased to see that I could actually get round the course without too much grief and I only quit a few months ago. This was not at all possible as a smoker, I tried it once and was practically on my knees after the first half mile. Anyone else out there running and snuffing? I’d be interested to hear if snuff has had any negative effects on your training. Cheers. Ubert

I don’t run just for the sake of running. I do Crossfit on a regular basis though and the workouts entail lots of running. I have not smoked cigs in years, but I do smoke a pipe. I have not noticed any negative effects since starting snuff. Crossfit workouts are pretty intense and I have been building strength and endurance…in fact, I usually take a big hit of O&G right before my workout with no ill effects!

Yeah I’m with you, picked up running after I quit cigarettes. Hasn’t seemed to have any negative effect on me. But I’m not a serious runner or anything, just jogging a few times a week for the health benefits.

So I’m not alone then - so fbones you take a hit before you start, I tend to wait until a few minutes after when I have the ‘runners’ high’ and then add to it with a large pinch or two…now that’s a good hit! :)>-

I’m with you Ubert, I don’t snuff beforehand, I run first thing in the morning and then take a few good pinches after. Feels pretty damn good haha. I wonder if using snuff before running would affect your stamina just because nicotine is a vasoconstrictor and whatnot, but I vaguely remember hearing of studies suggesting that nicotine boosts athletic performance, I dunno.

Yeah, personally I prefer to know I can relax when I take a pinch so I can enjoy it, the last thing I want to be doing is running around in the cold with my nose dripping brown stuff all over me. The other thing is that I find running tends to clear my sinuses out - so it’s get home, blow nose, chill for a few minutes, wait for the endorphine high and open the snuff tin…It was hard getting back into running, I reckon it’s gonna be hard to stop now!

I used to run every day during my competition days (I do martial arts), along with a training regimen that was very similar to what now is called CrosFit…and I was still smoking during that time. Odd that smoking didn’t feel at the time that it was hampering my progress, but im guessing that it did and I might have just ignored it. I toned down the intensity of the training lately, as injuries have caught up with me, and I now primarily do snuff, Snus, e-cigs and smoke a pipe. Now, I dont snuff before a martial arts class (especially if I want to run a nice sweaty cardio workout), but wait until after class and snuff a couple good pinches.

I try to do three half hour workouts a week at the gym, quite intensive though, ten minutes run, ten minutes crosstrainer, ten minutes of various upper body machines (I cycle to work, too), and I love a cup of coffee and a little pinch of something afterward, body and brain feels so happy after that!

This was not at all possible as a smoker, I tried it once and was practically on my knees after the first half mile.

Got an image of you jogging around a track puffing away with a ciggie hanging out the side of your mouth now… :))

Yeah that’s the comedy version which I can also chuckle at now but if you’d have seen the reality you’d have probably come over to ask if I needed a doctor…grim. Still, I have a decent snuff to keep that from happening again - happy days!
