So I’ve been perusing the internet for a snuffbox that’s a bit ornate in design but not antique. So my question is are there any snuffbox makers that make more ornate snuffboxes out of metal that can keep snuff for an extended period of time (3 or 5 days) that isn’t antique as I would love to buy one that I can take with me where I go. I don’t mind the heft of a metal snuffbox just would like a nice design.
The only one I know of that still makes snuffboxes is Regnas. Their boxes are beautiful and functional and completely snuff proof but they are damn expensive. The price of them goes up every year, the price has skyrocketed in the years since I bought mine. I got a gold plated sterling silver box with Sea Urchin fossil lid for $160 now the identical box is selling for $550.
Geezus those are some expensive snuffboxes I was thinking in the $100 range but if I ever come into some nice money I know where to look for some really really really beautiful boxes
@dan11 unfortunately the images don’t show up so I have no idea what it is that you’re linking
I was showing my own spoons made from damascus. I can’t seem to get the images to post no matter what I try. I’d love to make boxes some day too!
@dan11 the day you manage to get a snuff box made you hit me up I would love to be your first customer
I actually contacted the seller and he says that it does but what do you guys think?
In your shoes, I would look for a nice used snuffbox on Ebay from the 20th century, i.e. non-Victorian. There are plenty of great ones in pewter and brass, and even more very good ones in wood. If you have a bit more to spend you could go for a sterling silver box. I think you would get better value for money than trying to find a new box, silver or otherwise.
If you look around on Ebay, you can find a silver snuff box in good used condition for around $60. (Pewter or brass for half that.) People carry phones and watches around all the time that cost multiples of that!
And I don’t think any snuffbox would do a very good job at keeping snuff fresh for 5 days - they are designed to be refilled every day or every other day. If that’s important to you, you might want to stick with a smash box or similar.
And another Etsy coin box seller. A few members here have bought these ones and were happy. I think the only issue is they’re a little small for pinching from.
https://www.etsy.com/ie/shop/COINTRANSFORMATIONS?ref=search\\_shop\\_redirect
@barredbenny I will definitely keep a look out for some used snuffboxes on Ebay also what’s a smash box as I’ve never heard of one @dan11 yeah I saw that this vendor sells these types of coin boxes and as for the one you linked I very much like these ones as well do you how well these keep snuff or are they pretty much like 1 or 2 days worth of snuff and that’s it kind of box
@Lou_Bliss Ari D Norman in London, UK make new silver snuff boxes.
There have been some pictures and comments here on Snuffhouse, a couple of years ago.
If you take a look at ebay UK, item number 272296311539 you can see the sort of thing they make.
This one is 148 English pounds.
Better still, have a look at their website.
Cheers.
@ArtChoo I will definitely take a look and perhaps buy one
Smashboxes are very inexpensive plastic containers. Like this: https://snuffstore.co.uk/smash-box-white-10g-p-1814.html
Ahhhh that’s what smashboxes are!! Thanks for the info didnt know that’s what those were called might pick myself up some of those also
the coinboxs suck for snuff.
too small
I swear by those smash boxes. They work really well for coarser, moister snuffs. Not 100% airtight, but they will hold the moisture for a couple of days I’ve found.
smashboxes are decent. The coin things not so great.
well the coin ox is ordered just because as for the smash box im gonna pick one up when i get paid again
@Lou_Bliss Coins can make good boxes if they are large enough. I have one made to order by Coincrafts https://coincrafts.myshopify.com/ made from two crowns (pre-decimal 5 shilling pieces) which are 1.5" across and the box is 7/8" deep. It will hold the contents of a small Wilsons tin.
@Justin those look really cool!
Wow! Those pieces all look absolutely gourgeous I hope the one I bought looks as good as those.
Those coin boxes look totally boss. I plan to have one made, myself. There are plenty of nice looking coin replicas available for cheap, so if you have a favorite coin that would cost a bundle (like I do), you can commission some of these craftsmen to make you a custom box and only look like you might be rolling in dough, so to speak. I figured I would leave this information here in hopes that it may find someone thinking like I was. About having a coin box made. With different coins than what those cats offer. You get the picture.
Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this and please remove if not appropriate.
I have purchased this exact same snuff box from Mr. Snuff years ago : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CELTIC-PILLBOX-STERLING-SILVER-925-HALLMARKED-NEW-FROM-ARI-D-NORMAN/272300690628?\\_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D20140122125356%26meid%3D2f1a6d1e4ec94397b7cecac4bfe722fe%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D272296311539%26itm%3D272300690628&\\_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851
The box is in perfect condition. If anyone is interested please send me a private message.
Thank you

Check out the “secret” boxes at:
http://www.heartwood.com/my-secret-boxes.html
While not advertised as snuff boxes, mine works great !
Those 3" Heartwood secret boxes are the exact same ones that used to be sold as snuffboxes with snuff manufacturer logos engraved on the lids, I have a McChrystals and a WoS one and they work great.
I just ordered a Heartwood Secret box from that maker on Amazon for $18 usd.
New! Rococo Tough Metal Snuffbox - Gold https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VUGZ7WO/ref=cm\\_sw\\_r\\_cp\\_api\\_i\\_Q4xLCbG53HDBC I ordered this roncoco aluminum snuff box on amazon a couple of months ago. Works great for me! I carry with me everywhere. It is kinda ugly but it is very functional.
@Buddy_H I had been looking at those. I was just plain unsure. Good to know now, should I need another one in the future. Thanks.
http://www.schnupfdosn.de/?fbclid=IwAR2yyWUXdHBDpu\\_FcPcjumMFynnPAKqOfsuHon0GmWF3Hl3Nye-DAIWaQhU. They will respond in English and ship to the U SA
@RS422 So are those some sort of tap box and the slide on the side kinda an elevator to bring the snuff to the hole? They look really neat, but I just want to know exactly how they work before I order one.
@Buddy_H They have a slide presentation on the website on how they work. Someone on Snuff Nation on facebook said they are nice. Just ordered one last night. They hold 4 grams.
I just received my paduak wood box from Heartwood (2"x1.5" roughly), It fits about 2 grams and taps out a nice amount, if top pulled back right; or you can pinch out of it with ease.
Heartwood.com/boxes or Amazon.com search heartwood
It was smaller than I thought, but perfect for travel or daily use.
$18.00 Usd, well worth it to me.
I find the 3" Heartwood boxes better suited for snuff. They hold roughly 10g of snuff, the exterior dimensions aren’t much bigger than the 2" boxes but the interior is much larger.
I wouldn’t mind getting next size up, especially the rectangular one. I see a better selection on Heartwood.com site,c compared to their items on Amazon.
just picked up a flat 3x2 and a medium 3x2 direct from heartwood. 5 percent discount with news5 for the code at checkout
@Buddy_H I just saw the Rococo metal snuffbox on Amazon earlier these week. Out of stock, then the only place I could find them appear to be scam websites, all run by the same firm…
I did grab couple of these. They will hold close to 10 grams but I would put less
Just to give some perspective. 25 gram tin, silver Dimeapple 10 gram tin, black Dimeapple, bottom left Toque Flask, Bottom Right Flask purchased from Mr. Snuff
The top picture of my first post is a 10 gram tin open and this alumimum container open, the next pic is with both closed. Bottom picture of 1st post has a 10 gram tin placed in it. It goes to the grooves and the width stops it there.
@Slide Would any of these scam websites happen to be snuffshop.cn? I recently posted a link to them, as they have nearly all of the well-known Rococo boxes, plus some new stuff. I would hate to post a link to sonewhere bad.
Modern snuff boxex is the topic… well … the Schnupfdosli comes in mind
I have one of these massive full aluminum tins and I used it for some time in the past.
No idea why I retired it. I think I should put out of the cellar and back to duty again. These things are indestructible.
@Fantastic_Floyd That is not one of the ones I recall but I will look at it. The sites I saw had a really eclectic collection of stuff. Kind of like they were collecting web searches to be the scam site for everyone
@Humppa Those look brilliant! Unfortunate that they don’t ship internationally, I’d be in for sure. Apparently Rococo makes a similar (though far less elegant) version, available on the snuffshop.cn domain that Floyd posted… I’m tempted. Do you find snuff gets into the threads when you screw/unscrew to change the hole size?
No, there is no snuff in the threads - at least not as much as it would have influence of the operation of the tin. I really like mine - there are several holes for the decision which size of pinch you prefer.
Built like a tank and it fits the amount of one day pinching in there nicely.
If you are interessted you could ask one of the Verkaufsstellen if they sell internationally. I don
For now I’m going with one of the Rococo ones to save some time/money in case I don’t end up using it much… but assuming it works for me, tracking down an international seller for the original Schnupfdosli is next on the list!
Check etsy out for snuff boxes, they have some real treasures on there
@Chapman Just got one from France on Etsy. Unused from the 1930
@Rs422 hey i just got one from france from the 1930s too!! Is yours wood and bone?
Mine also stated the 1930s, but who knows lol. I got a dark wood box with a metal 4 leaf clover, seems to be a pretty popular one as I have seen the exact same looking one many times.
@RS422, I wonder if it was the same seller, The inside of my box has pretty rough gouge scrapes, which tend to hold snuff in them. Not to big of a deal I guess since my nose doesnt seem to pick up any ghost scents
Just found these Kashubian ceramic snuff horns:
https://www.ceramika-birko.pl/upominki-akcesoria/tabakierka,pproduct,334.html
I just looked at Ari D Norman s website, and their silver snuffboxes are still showing up there. Not at all cheap, but very nice.
@volunge this just reminded me of my cassubian horn with metal nut. It was my birthday present of choice last year. I procurred it from this site: https://fajkowo.pl/pl/c/Akcesoria-tabaczane/508/2 Just decided to fill it with VD, however fine grind snuff suit better with this snuffhorn. Its simply easier to take since the lid is quite small. Quite pricey because its handmade but very handy
Nu bardzo fajna tabakiera! Neat and great size! Looks like the one for a good day’s-worth amount (3-5 g).
A hole of those ceramic ones looks too small for coarse grind. Besides, might be on a heavier side, they are app. 10 cm. But they are relatively cheap, 5-6 Eur. I’ll try to procure one someday, if they ship outside Poland.
Laba diena @volunge, aciu. Yeah but Im really not into snuffboxes, prefer to pinch. Its good for traveling tho If they dont, no worries just PM me and we can figure it out. Im definitely going to Kaszebe this summer. They have large variety of all the equipment in local shops from what I remember. Little off-topic, I have a vivid flashback from vacation in Kaszuby region years ago, when I was a kid. I was sitting with my family outside the restauramt waiting for a lunch order. Out of nowhere cames the ‘strange’ clothed dude, offering every customer sitting here, a snuff… sadly, not for kids Guess I was enough intrigued by this to stuck in my mind to this day Also, I remember the big banner on shop there with a picture of shiny black snuff horn, similar to ones you posted. I imagined this must be some kind of flat iron , for real =))
Dzieki za oferte, @Johano!
@Mr_O, Italian and Portuguese jewellers still make snuff boxes, too. It seems that this genre is alive.
Found some at Russian retailers:
https://silverspoons.ru/factories/4486/7771
https://silverexpo.ru/internet-magazin/product/serebryanaya-tabakerka-s-emalyu (Italian)
https://silverexpo.ru/internet-magazin/product/tabakerka-serebryanaya-sinyaya (Italian)
https://silverexpo.ru/internet-magazin/product/tabakerka-serebryanaya-zelenaya (Italian)
(all silver)
And a Russian one: https:// (EDIT: the rest of address is in Cyrillic and got cut, can’t paste it; the snuff box is neat, though, so I’ll upload the image in the next post)
925 silver
And nice small German wooden boxes:
http://www.drechselshop-online.de/tabatieren.htm
(link reposted from https://snuffhouse.com/discussion/7256/share-your-snuffbox-pics/p4)
@volunge some really nice stuff there!
@volunge I own two of these German small boxes very nice quality but no airtight.
Good for daily use if you refill it everyday but not for week or month as it will loose moisture and scent.
@Fantastic_Floyd Great find, thank you. Shipping is high but they deliver. Shipping cost like that just makes me have a higher total in what I purchase.
I picked up these. The ABS turn tin is a good value. I really like the sliding lid aluminum box. It does get a little gritty in the groove but nothing that impacts operation. And you can turn it over, shake it and no snuff leaks out.
The Aluminum turn tin is well made.
The Aluminum turn tin and ABS both hold a good bit of snuff.
I am very satisfied with my purchases. and will probably order more.
Cool… and like always there is a super premium box

In the mail today.
@volunge that 925 silver Russian box is lovely Do you have a link to where its for sale at all?
@BillSykes, indeed!
The address of the shop is beneath the image of the box. It’s not a link, just an image cut from “print-screen” image (part of the address is in Cyrillic, and this forum doesn’t support it). You can use https://translit.net/ for hassle-free Latin to Cyrillic transliteration.
Go to translit.net and simply type in “serebro.rf” (without quotation-marks), copy the generated Cyrillic transliteration and replace the yellow part of the address https://serebro.rf/catalog/podarki-iz-serebra/tabakerka-50040036a05
It costs 34130 roubles (348 GBP / 456 USD / 399 EUR). Weight 163 g. Made in Russia by Severnaya chern’ (http://www.sevchern.ru/). This company uses traditional silver blackening technique:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time\\_continue=11&v=gw1IteEQ6Ck&feature=emb\\_logo
http://www.sevchern.ru/about/?lang=eng .
I cannot find this particular snuff box in Severnaya chern’ catalogue, but they make silver flasks with the very same weasel motif: http://www.sevchern.ru/catalog/podarki-dlya-muzhchin/flyazhka-laska/
By far the best snuff box is the Royal Box. It has 8 compartments-can be for different types of tobacco and is perfectly made and convenient. The first brand (this year is the 10th anniversary) after Peter Carl Faberge ? some models are very sophisticated and superbly handcrafted. Counterfeits need to be looked out for. I recommend!

I’m a little late to this party, but Ari D Norman has a modern silver snuff box. I bought one a few years back. Got it engraved with my initials, super classy… but I find I’m too lazy to take decent care of silver.
https://aridnorman.com/aridnorman-sterling-silver-engraved-victorian-style-pill-box-snuffbox-pb432
Search for “snuff” to see the other engraving options.
I found an old thread with quite a few pictures of my Ar D Norman box if you’re interested:
https://snuffhouse.com/discussion/comment/430350/
Got the same one but with a different etched design on it. A really nice box, glad I got it long before the price shot up.
For snuff boxes a company from Switzerland provides absolutely stunning products. You can safely put it in your wallet.
onegee.ch
Is it really designed for Snuff? It seems to have lots of different compartments and is designed for being concealed.
seems to me like device for some other kind of non-tobacco snuffs… for wealthy and high-functioning users ofc
snuff is a broad term
I have three boxes from Heartwood and love them. Highly recommended Here’s the website: https://heartwood.com/
