Although I am a very new member of this forum I am an old snuff-taker (34 yrs) and just wondered how many members use antique snuff boxes. I have 4 boxes that I use regularly, each containing my 4 top snuffs. My oldest box is dated 1740 and is silver with inset agate top; then my usual box is English silver dated 1803, a wonderful box; then a French silver Empire style box dated 1838, and finally a silver 1887 quite large, similar shape to miner’s boxes, with a name engraved on the lid. Added to that I have amassed quite a collection of snuff spoons mostly ivory or bone from 18th & 19th centuries. I must say that at one time there were many in junk shops, etc. but they seem to have disappeared and are now hard to find. Its a funy thing but I just feel that the snuff is somehow nicer using an old antique box. Whats everyones thoughts on this?

My thought is you should share some photos with us

I agree and will try and photograph them after my short holiday next week. I take it that to upload images I use the “attach a file” option as I am very new to this forum.

@‌ denovan, That is so cool, you use those old boxes. Whoever used that 1740’s box would never image someone still using it as a snuff box 270 years later!
