Anti Snuff Brigade

Hi all, I am new to snuff and snuffing I’m general first started mid December 2014. In this small space of time I’ve encountered quite a few people who are very anti snuff; “It’s what old men do” “What century do you live in” “That’s disgusting” “You’ll get nose cancer” “You’ve not really quit smoking as you’re still getting nic” These are just some of things I’ve had said. Now since starting, I’ve quite smoking (10 days and going strong) and saved some money and I’m assuming my health (to a point). Has anyone else had to deal with the ASB??? Thanks.

“It’s what old men do”- Yes they were young men when they started, how do you think they got old ? “What century do you live in”-The one where smoking is banned in doors establishments “That’s disgusting”- Yes but it the safest way to consume my vitamin N “You’ll get nose cancer”- You have been misinformed! no nose cancer in 3 hundred years on record from snuff “You’ve not really quit smoking as you’re still getting nic”- smoking releases carcinogens ,you don’t smoke snuff What people think of me is none of my business. I could belittle them to the point of them crying or wanting to fight, but that is not my style. Just give them a big smile and wish them a nice day.

Good points.

You will find anti tobacco people everywhere. Even a neighbor of mine can be a jerk. What is great about snuff is you can go to the john and take it in private and no one will be the wiser. Most of my family and friends are tobacco free and would make quite the scene if they knew. That’s what is great about snuff. I usually end up going 3 to 6 weeks nic, free during the course of the year but now with snuff I can just maintain when I am around people who have bought into the anti tobacco stance.

I agree with both @basement_shaman‌ and @J_S. 1. What I do in my spare time is my business, it’s a pleasurable activity I wish to partake in and anyone who truly cares would appreciate my choice and those who don’t shouldn’t poke their nose in! That being said, if it offended someone I would happily partake somewhere more private to avoid offending anyone further 2. Furthering my last point, it can be partaken so quietly and privately many people need not know!

I was using an e-cig in the pub the other night, and someone asked me if there was nicotine in it (I’m not making this up!); when I responded in the affirmative, they said “Then it’s just as bad for your health as smoking, then!” There will always be ill-informed people around, I try in my own little polite way to lift the veil from their minds when I can…

You just cannot fix stupid !

But you can fix ignorant, with education.

Sad to say all of the ones I have run into are past ignorance. It’s like a higher level of ignorance that can not be fixed with education. I tried and, they just go on how that’s a lie. The W.H.O. is lying about snuff but, everything else is ok?

Sort of a touchy subject to me. Mostly cause I did do the research. I didn’t just jump into snuff. I wanted to make %100 sure it was safer then smoking before I just decided to stick stuff up my nose. Well the first time I didn’t but, when I made a commitment to actually switching I did. People against smoking cigarettes piss me off too still. Even though I don’t smoke. That truth add in America saying there is ammonia from cat piss in cigarettes made me want to punch a anti nicotine jerk. Ammonia is in just about all decaying plant matter! I’m sure all of us snuffer know that since our nice fresh snuff some times smells like it. Some times heavily.

I know I should probably think it’s none of their business what I do but, I want to help cigarette smokers that, want to quit. I got one co worker to make the slow transition to snus and, his doing well with that.

Maybe I’m lucky but I’ve more or less encountered the opposite. From almost fascination, to mild interest, to people wanting to try, or just plain indifference. Snuff is cool. Je Suis un Snuffer.

Haven’t had any major negativity other than the “that’s gross”, but I respond to that with " would you rather I smoke next to you, or do snuff?". If they were to say smoke I would have no problem lighting up a cigar and blowing the smoke at them.

@stapf Yeah, the same happened to me a lot of times. The “Don’t you get a brown nose?” are specially painful when they come from cigarette smokers, and I have sometimes answered with a “Yeah, I get a brown nose, but I’d rather have my nose cleaned of powder than my lungs cleaned of tar, you know”. Still, i try to be respectful and most of the time I had just received words of curiosity instead of fear. Everybody that knows that there is a big difference between smoke an dried plants seems to be more tolerant.

The image of tobacco is just so bad. People seem to think that the stuff itself is something black slowly running down a sewer when the Devil himself is dancing with his pitchfork. When I grew up, there was nothing positive to be heard of tobacco. Nothing. Everyone said it kills and harms and whatnot and no-one stood up to defend it. Smokers and non-smokers were blaming tobacco of all the ills. What I am trying to say is, that when I have an encounter with someone who asks what I am doing, and even if I thoroughly go through the details explaining how tobacco is just a plant and it’s the smoke that is harmful and everything… They still think that “It’s TOBACCO you are putting in your nose! It can’t be healthy.” The image of tobacco is very very bad.

When tobacco was first brought from america they claimed it was a miracle drug. These are the dark ages in reverse. I believe most of us are way above average because tobacco makes your mind work better

Same here, never have anyone spouting BS about the imagined dangers of snuff. Most people are mildly curious about it, and the only negative comment I’ve received was when a girl asked if the snuff makes my sinuses and nose dry. Cultural differences, perhaps?

History is a sequence of facts that cyclically repeat themselves but with a more fashionable appearance. The first european smoker, Rodrigo de Jerez, was convicted in Spain by the Holy Inquisition accused of witchery and commiting pagan acts for exhaling smoke, because “only the devil could give a man the power to remove smoke from his mouth”. When he was released, 7 years later, he discovered that the habit of smoking tobacco was widespread, and many of his town neighbours that had informed against him before, by then had adopted his “cursed” habit. What people think is not a realiable guideline…

Seems most peoples experiences are on the whole quite okay. Maybe it is just Tobacco’s bad image, all I know is that I am becoming quite fond of snuff and haven’t smoked for almost 2 weeks. As someone above mentioned it can be quite a discrete affair though I don’t think I will shy away whilst having a pinch in public. On that note, has anyone ever had an issue with authorities of any sort for taking snuff/having snuff on you, in public, at the pub, gig etc?

@Pablo There’s this topicon the issue, but most of us have never had any kind of problem like that. I think because even if you take snuff in front of a cop, looking him/her in the eye, they would not think you’re stupid enough to be using a drug whose possession can have consequences that seriously outweigh any positives that could be derived of its public consumption. Unless they’re paranoid, over-restrictive cops, of course, but I believe there are not many that match such criteria.

I’ve found a few people have done this to me, I find the best course of action is to politely tell them to fuck off.
