there be dragons here:

NEW VACCINE FOR NICOTINE ADDICTION
Researchers have developed and successfully tested in mice an innovative vaccine to treat nicotine addiction. A single dose of their novel vaccine protects mice, over their lifetime, against nicotine addiction. The vaccine is designed to use the animal’s liver as a factory to continuously produce antibodies that gobble up nicotine the moment it enters the bloodstream, preventing the chemical from reaching the brain and even the heart.

Whoa, it’s weird because it sort of takes the decision making away from the user if they want to quit or not. It’s like saying a person can’t eat three big macs because they have this vaccine that prevents them from finding the enjoyment of over-indulging, never mind their brain and stomach telling them how full they are.

While it is great that there are progresses being made to better their lives and making themselves healthier, one, people should demand less poisonous chemicals in cigs, which I think also attest to the addictive nature of cigs, not just from the nicotine. And two, I think wanting to break any habit should come from inside, for which whom this is being marketed towards, but should be wholly done from the inside.

What I find truly interesting is the preventative aspect of the vaccine, akin to parents vaccinating their children from HPV, but unlike HPV, nicotine ingestion is a choice, and shouldn’t be decided by anyone else other then the person in question at a reasonable age to make the decision for themselves.

This smells awfully like Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut. Great find @Mouse!

I’m reminded of the comic book character Spider Jeruselam. In the future, nobody is actually addicted to anything, but he still chainsmokes.

B

They said the same thing years ago. And it seems like one of the things they think they got cause they forgot how much more kick ass rat immune systems are then ours, then they get silent and a few years latter someone else thinks they’ve got it happening.

B

What a waste of research, Don’t they know that tobacco users pay more taxes and higher insurance rates then non tobacco users. Who going to pick up that slack in revenues if tobacco isn’t addicting?

B

if they give it to kids it will be this generations lobotomy/

J

It won’t work. Even if you are vaccinated you could still consume enough nicotine to outnumber the antibodies. This leads to a higher rate of consumption. I suppose it would work on the zombie masses though.

O

I believe the way it is being described is that the antibodies are made on a as needed basis. So throughout the body there are these antibodies on patrol and as nicotine enters the system, the body starts producing more antibodies from the vaccine now being part of the DNA make up of the cells. So there is now way to over-consume and beat back the vaccine. If the body only needs a little, then it makes a little, if it needs a lot, well you get the point.

@basement_shaman, well the research and tests are done by scientists, who for the most part are usually on the side of ordinary people, it’s the people that pay for the research who could care less. But on another note, I don’t find enjoyment, or feel more patriotic, or proud knowing I’m paying more taxes or higher insurance premiums for something that probably wouldn’t kill one as fast if it didn’t contain all the extra-poisonous chemicals.

@giaach what I think @transistor was meaning was that, maybe not this type of vaccine but for most other disease based vaccines, they do put a fractional portion of the disease/virus in the mixture for the body to recognize the foreign/enemy cells. Meaning he’s unsure what will do more damage to him, being given the disease via lab or from the elements. I quite frankly don’t get flu-vaccinations for the same reason. The mutations are always worst, and for a species that has no predator, this is our species’s way of staying at a reasonable population. Lol, maybe I read more into it than needed, but I think that’s what he was trying to get at.

Apologies for the essays, guys.

Well after paying attention I call bullshits massive bullshits on this. Either the science peoples are dumbing everything down to the point of nonsense or they don’t know what they’re talking about. Well neither do most people here, the diffrence is it’s supposed to be their jobs. I think it’s a con on some level. I frankily think it’s either a joke or an attempt at getting funding for bullshit. If you don’t agree with this assessment I’am sure you can agree with me that someone so retarded (literaly as in their development has been stopped or slowed dramatically) that in 2012 they use a pac-man refrence to describe inaccurateily the effects of the immune system, probably isn’t a person capable of much of anything really. Shit like this happens all the time. I guess what I’am saying is no worries at least about this moron having an success in life or in this experiement.

And despite the prestige of the instituion and the fact they’ve got a few good things comeing from there. They’re also where we got the Atkins diet from so… (yes I prefer to think that Doctor Atkins is a frankenstein type invention and not a person that worked at the facility, it’s easier to sleep that way alright).

Additionaly  the quotes in the “story” are attributed to a doctors who’s writing sounds nothink like the b.s. in the story. Almost as if someone else is exagerating his findings for funding reasons. Science can get just as sorrid as soap operas.

Did I say something wrong to get my comment deleted???

B

My guess isn’t wrong but with a very strong potential towards creating fights and arguements. If it was wrong then they probably would have told you it was out right wrong.

J

I find it incomprehensible that the antibodies could destroy ALL the nicotine before any of it hits the brain and binds to those receptors.

A

We only need to worry about this when they make it compulsory. At that point I will run for the hills with my shotgun to avoid having the mandatory bar-code tattooed on my forehead.

O

I’ll reserve my two cents here.

Meanwhile I’m over here buying up all the ammo I can find
I’ll join you on that hill Nigel.  The only “shots” anyone’s gonna get is BUCKSHOT
well, that or some nice liquor but that’s another story…

Excellent, we’ll hold 'em off together. Maybe re-load a few shells with Dholakia White?

These “vaccines” are actually brain eating viruses. They’re coming out for opioids, stimulants, and everything. The truth is that these neuroreceptors are shared for natural brain chemistry like pleasure, fear, pain, etc. “Vaccines” that prevent addiction to them will also make you the perfect biological android sheep slave. Stay away from them.

N

I like my nicotine addiction. I have invested a lot of money in it and intend to protect my investment by staying as addicted as possible.

F

I think tobacco addiction are undeserved labels, I would like to think that “I prefer tobacco,” not “I am addicted to tobacco.”

F

So what’s the point? Addiction to nicotine or taking injections the rest of your life?
