Apart from Honest scotch snuff, which has been discontinued, do we know for certain if any other scotches or sweets have been discontinued? I know that Mr. Snuff seems to have run out of most of their scotches and sweets, but of course that doesn’t mean that they aren’t still being made. I’m especially curious about Starr, Maccoboy and Rooster dry snuff. Does anyone know if they’re still being made?
From what I have read on the forum in my various searches, one poster indicated recently here he was able to get Maccoboy from his local Swisher rep. Not sure on the others… perhaps @Xander would know as he seems pretty knowledgeable regarding American Scotches and the like.
DeVoe was cancelled a year before Honest. These are the only two I have seen confirmation of. The rest is the rumor mill and speculation. Starr, Rooster and Maccoboy have not ever been available in my area since I began looking, so I know nothing about their current state. All of the ones that I’ve ever seen here are still available here, which is about 15 varieties. I’d really like to have a reliable supply source of Maccoboy since its not a scotch at all, and is just so unique.
Does that mean my three tubs of DeVoe (sweet i think) are collectors items now? I’ve been quite enjoying using the one on my desk on occasion.
Yep. No more DeVoe. The non sweet DeVoe is even older. I think it was discontinued in the '50s. @cstokes4 got some of that one on ebay awhile back and shared it with me. It was ok, but nothing to get excited about. I’m not a sweet scotch fan anyway, so I shed few tears when we lost DeVoe Sweet. Honest I was a little sad about, but mainly because I liked the label. The snuff was so close to Garrett to my taste that I didn’t mind too much. I hate to be so callous to these losses, because if they cut one I like or is unique I think I will be very sad.
The only two I’ve ever seen around Central FL are Navy Plain and RR Mills Sweet, both at Winn-Dixie and neither of which I’d buy . I still have a stash of plains: WE Garrett, Square , RR Mills, and 3 Thistle, but they are getting old and I need to start figuring out how to back-fill my inventory.
@Z_2K… Where in Central FLA are you? I know of a few spots that sell more than your run of the mill Winn-Dixie selection of American Scotches. Take a look at my post here for a source.
Well Starr is mostly found in North Carolina, excepting mail order, and Maccoboy seems to exist solely in Georgia. I would miss either of them, as they are both unique. Rooster I mostly like for the packaging–it’s nothing special.
@Mike_B Care to help a friend in need? I’ll send $$$ if you send Starr and Maccoboy, plus shipping and something for your time and effort.
Ditto for Maccoboy.
Sorry lads, I’m down to my last bottle/tin of each. If you search “Starr” and “Maccoboy” on this site, you’ll probably find at least one user who can get it at his/her local store.

Thanks for this tip. I live in Palm Bay, FL. I’ll give them a call but would only be interested in the Square, if and when they get some. That’s a long drive for me, but I could work in a day trip and stop by a few other places like Guitar Center and Sam Ash to help justify it.
@Z_2K Stopped by there today and no square, but did notice they had Tops Sweet which wasn’t there previously. I’ll keep an eye out for you as I’m in that area once or twice a month. Would love it if they could get checkerberry of maccoboy, but that is probably wishful thinking.
