Are American Scotches and Toasts about the same thing?
They’re cousins. American Scotch is much smokier but some Toasts like SG’s Irish D Light approach a Scotch in smokiness. There’s no Scotch equivalent, though, to something like WoS no. 22 of F&T HDT
GH Irish D smells more like a scotch more than a toast to me. Â I relate the smokiness of scotches to a bbq, and the smokiness of a toast to a campfire (with a buttery/nutty aspect). Â I like them both, but I favor toasts.
I’d say they’r relatives yes but not close relatives. They are close enough though that one can draw some comparisons. The smokiness is the biggest distinguishing factor between the two. I’ve had some scotches that were on the lower end of the smokey spectrum and was like wow this is an awful lot like a toast.
No. That like saying are Scottish the same as Irish . Toasts are toasted and Scotch are scorched. Toasts are creamy and buttery, Scotch are BBQ smokey. Toasts are smooth while Scotch is sharp. It may be just me but scotch seem to deliver the nicotine faster . Â
I have one scotch, Railroad Mills Sweet, and I like it but would like to try an unsweetened. Â The only one I can find to purchase is the Bruton one on Mr Snuff.
I think Bruton is a good representation of an unsweetened scotch, but scotch fans seem to favor others, so Bruton rarely gets mentioned here. Â Could I pass the blindfold test with Bruton and WE Garrett? Â Probably not all the time, if at all. Â Since they seem to be rather hard to come by these days, it seems those that have been snuff takers for a while now are the ones that know their scotches. Â
I’d like to buy some WE Garrett but have been unable to find a source.

For plain scotches (my favorite) they have Garrett, Bruton and RR Mills Plain; Honest is apparently no longer made so I wouldn’t bother asking them to inform you when they get it back in stock.  Also a small selection of sweet scotches. Â
@Sean OCDPx, I adore Bruton, aka “The Brute.”  It’s one of the only snuffs I can buy “locally” (45 minutes away), so it holds an honored place in my rotation as one of the only three American scotches (along with the two Garrett snuffs) I can buy by the can and thus keep in stock.
Word on the streets is, that if you call Swisher or US Smokeless and ask to purchase a case the local representative can drop it off at any store which stocks the products of the respective company. Â There have apparently been issues with getting ahold of Swisher reps, but one can always try.
A partial list of Swisher snuffs is here:Â http://snuffhouse.com/discussion/7483/list-of-swisher-snuffs-that-are-still-produced/p1
aside from the contact info. in that thread, I could only find this from Swisher’s website; it’s a form you can submit to “contact” them: https://contact.swisher.com/hc/en-us
US Smokeless contact info:

They might possibly have others not listed here.
edit improved the link and added Bruton to the snuffs available at smokes-spirits.com
Thanks @slobandtom, I’d really just like to try one container to see if I like it.
786  Yr. welcome!  Yea, I miss being able to buy a single can for a reasonable price so I can try it out; for the present time my only option for trying an American scotch is to buy a case–ouch!  I have a nose full of Superior scotch as I type–it’s not just a clever brand-name–brings back memories of being able to buy ten different scotches for a good price and receive them in two days…
If I ever find a better way I will post it here for sure.
In the meantime I feel I should add that there have reportedly been issues with smokes-spirits.com: people not receiving their orders, or the vendor accepting payment for items they don’t actually have in stock and don’t know when they will be in stock.  Idk how prevalent this is; just that some people revile them for the aforementioned reasons and others swear by them.  The BBB gave them an A+, so I personally would take the complaints with a bit of salt and call beforehand to ensure that the items I want are in stock before finalizing an order.
You could always sell the rest if you didn’t like it though. With all this demand I don’t see anyone getting stuck with a scotch
