A young pipe tobacco company,  http://www.sterlingtobaccoco.com/index.html Has a mixture called American Patriot-a bold English blend.

I had stumbled upon this when in search of Penzance. Reviewers proclaim the taste that of Penzance.They had sent me a generous FREE sample I requested ;of the American Patriot and some bargain Aro blend I had not. Upon opening the bag I was greeted by the familiar leathery aroma. This is a blend not a flake so the comparison has its differences, the American Patriot is easy to light , burns cooler and is a tad sweeter then the Penzance.The amount of smoke is weak and the taste fades in and out where the Penzance seems to stay consistent strong to the bottom of the bowl.

I really enjoyed the American Patriot But the price tag WOW $80 and some change for 14 Oz. So if you like Penzance but can’t get your hands on any and have money to burn, then this blend was made just for you!

I am interest if any of my fellow snuff/pipe connoisseur had compared these offerings and there take on them.

There is no way you should compare that blend to Penzance. It would be like saying that anything with Latakia in it is comparable to Penzance. The fact that Penzance is made in the traditional English style of flake is ultimately what makes it incomparable as it is as you noted more than just its flavor that makes it good. There are many other English flake tobaccos as good as Penzance to try and there are dozens of English mixtures with Latakia as good as well. While Penzance is very good it has been overrated by its popularity that has been gained by the publicized struggles to obtain it. 

I just sent an email to get a free sample of the american patriot so thanks for the link.  This will actually be the first pipe tobacco I’ve tried other than the Captain dale blend I get from my local tobacconist…

I think it’s funny that their millionaire blend is cheaper then the patriot.

I enjoy his Tavern blend quite blend.

Penzance is yummy! I’m a sucker for latakia. Like most pipe smokers that I know.

Just requested a sample and now I gotta find my great-grandads cheap-ass pipe that I havn’t used in months…it’s a cheap pipe, but it was my great grandpa’s, so yeah, lol. EDIT: Getting the VP blend (Virginia and Perique) I like perique tobacco, so this should be good.
