I’m new to Plugs but like them quite a bit and they are fairly reasonably priced. I was wondering if some of the veteran’s of chew could tell me what their shelf life is (stored in it’s packet in a mason jar of course) and whether there are many chemical’s or additive in them? I’ve got Levi garrett, Cup Plug and Apple plug on the way. The reason i ask is i dont get through them very fast and i like to have a selection on hand. Thanks.

I can’t comment on what additives they contain, but I can say that they keep very well in a Mason jar. I have some that are 3 yrs old that seem not to have lost anything while living in the jar.

Thanks Perique, that what i was hoping.

I found some Lancaster that was open and was 20+ years old I had in a draw and it was still very moist. The garrett comes in a foil inside bag, other plugs like dayOwork and cannon do not. If your carrying it around a zip lock bag or a pipe tobacco bag. long term; glass is best. But if your using it often just a plastic bag should be enough. I think you have to bake it in an oven like a 20 pound turkey before it dried out. Tobacco does not rot. As for chemical s and additive I say yes. Are they bad for you Yes. do I like them Yes.

First off, plug is made for chewing, not for storage. Besides they’re usually stored long enough on the shelf. I go through plugs pretty regular, back pocket, little ziplock, as basement shaman says…

I just can add: long-term storage in jars is no problem at all. Store them at a dark and cold place and your grandchild can chew on them as well.
