Am I allergic to Toque?!?!

Everytime I take Toque, I seem to run into sinus congestion (not just a snuff clogginess, but general congestion, a bit of sinus pressure, etc). I’ve tried a good number of the toque varieties, and it seems to be nearly universal, although some scents react more quickly/severely than others. I don’t have this problem with any other brands products that I’ve tried. I’m certain it’s not technique, as I’m able take anything from schmaltzers to toasts without a problem. I do have some allergies, so I’m concerned that perhaps something in the Toque base is triggering something. Normally, I’d write it off and just snuff from the dozens of other favorite snuffs that don’t cause any issues…BUT I LOVE THE TOQUE SCENTS SO MUCH!!! Honestly, the Toque fruits have no equal, the toffee and coke are great desert treats, and Whiskey and Honey is, IMO a top-10 snuff across all brands and styles. I’d really, really, REALLY hate to have to shelve the stuff, but I’m worried there may be no other answer. Anyone else have this sort of issue with a particular brand? Any happy solution or am I right-royally screwed?

I assume you have tried a saline spray? I am really too new to snuff to give advise but one thing I have noticed is that when I feel mild congestion I just switch to my pipe. For some reason the smoke seems to open me up and then I can go back to snuffing again. So if you are a pipe smoker, you might consider having a bowl.

6 Photo special cuts through congestion. I don’t leave home without it. I use plenty Toque offerings it kill me if I had a problem.

Oh yeah, I’ve tried saline. This feels like actual swelling due to an allergic response - just wondering if anyone had a similar issue. Is 6 photo special mentholated? I don’t do menthol (don’t have a reaction or anything, just can’t stand the stuff).

Yes , eucalyptus & mint Medicated, but not as a flavor and no rebound congestion. I not a big menthol fan either .But I employ Special when needed ; never fail me.

@idbowman Have you tried Natural or Natural Toast? I am pretty sure these are scent free and that may give some insight to what is going on. That is a bummer that Toque snuffs are doing this to you. Maybe the Toque isn’t mixing well with other snuffs in your nose? Hope it works out or you find a solution.

For some reason Dholakia Ganga makes my face swell up, big red welts under my eyes. No idea why, must be one of the ingredients. I only use Indian snuffs and have no other problems so it is a bit strange. I would suggest teaming Toque up with another, 6P Special as suggested would work a treat. The menthol in Indian snuffs is understated for the most part, decongestant rather than flavour.

Toque doesn’t use artificial scents I think. People aren’t born with allergies, they develop them as an immune system response; it’s possible you have developed an allergy to the scenting Toque uses. Trying Natural is a good suggestion, it would give you an idea if it was the tobacco base or additive that was at issue. Do you suffer from pollen allergies already?

Do you suffer from pollen allergies already?

That I do, but it is a very, very minor allergy. I do have more significant allergies, but they’re all of the indoor variety - dust mite, cat dander, and indoor molds. I’d considering giving natural a shot, but I don’t have any on hand at the moment. For now, my inclination is to shelve the Toques until I place my next order, get some natural and test 'em out. Thanks for that idea, guys - the thought hadn’t occurred to me.

I guess you’re going to use a 24 hour histamine blocker to enjoy your Toque then

Sadly, it sounds that way. Still worth it.

@idbowman I am allergic to alcohol, I break out in handcuffs. Abstinence is my only remedy. At least you can still go and enjoy Toque with A.R.M. pill

As it turns out, several massive pinches fistfuls of Thor’s Hammer seems to have cleared me out (at least temporarily). Edit: Fistfuls? Fistsful? Fists full? Meh, whatever.

If I were to develop an allergy to Toque snuff I would choose lethal injection. That’s one collection of snuffs I can’t get through the day without.

You might want to try nasal irrigation. Thats where you actually suck up lukewarm salty water in one nostril, while blocking off the other. Then let it folw, or blow, out into sink. It removes all the crap, clears out your nose real well. It was prescribed to me by an ear, nose, and throat doctor years ago when I had sinus problems. I do it almost every night, and especially when I take a snuff that clogs me up. Its a really good technique. It might help you out and then you could enjoy your Toque a lot more.

Yeah the netty pot. Great little thing after great snuffing sessions.

I’m already a Neti Pot guy…actually, I started Neti before I started snuffing. NORMALLY, I’d look at this and say “Wait…you’ve got a history of allergies and sinus issues, you irrigate your nasal passages regularly, receive allergy injections, and take a number of other measures to combat recurring sinus congestion, YET YOU STILL TAKE SNUFF!!! YOU, SIR, ARE AN IDIOT!” But the thing is, it’s JUST Toque, not snuffing in general. Nothing else causes any sort of flare up. Now, because I do have some allergy issues independent of snuffing, it is ENTIRELY possible that Toque has just happened to be my snuff of choice the last two times I’ve had a significant flare. The fact that no one else has chimed in to say that a specific brand of snuff causes them issues where others don’t leads me to believe this could be the case - that is, there’s no causal relationship and just some lousy luck. I’m going to wait for things to calm down a bit, then try Toque again to see if I go right back into a rebound. If so, it’s a Toque-less life for me. If not, I’m just jumping at shadows and trying to connect dots that have nothing in common. Of course, I’d like to say I’d consult my GP or allergist, but let’s be honest - tobacco (in any form) is evil and guaranteed to be the cause of all medical concerns, past, present, and future.

Well every anti smoker knows tobacco cause the Holocaust.
