Köstlich translates to “Delicious” in English and I have no argument with that. So, this snuff is the more flavorful one from Old Offenbacher. It seems that Bernard is moving away from the nice little bottles for their snuffs (and the foil packages for their schmalzlers) with a few exceptions. I’m a little disappointed that I did not get one of the bottles before they switched to tap out boxes. The old bottles apparantly told the buyer that it containted a blend of three aromatic tobaccos. This box only tells me that its from a recipe from the year 1923 Actually, I don’t have an problem with tap-out boxes for German snuffs, I just think they make no sense for English snuffs. Its not as airtight as I would like, but it is functional. The snuff is very nice. Its not as sweet or as sticky as a schmalzler. Its reasonably dry for a German snuff, but the snuff is clearly oil based and it holds onto its moisture well. It has a very strong character, very smokey and robust without being offensive. Its woody and earthy, it reminds me of leaf fires burning in the autumn as a child. This was my first proper German snuff and I’m going to keep it in my regular rotation. Highly recommended, even to beginners. Style: traditional German snuff (oil moistened) Rating: 4/5 Grind: demigros Moisture: medium-moist
