I know that there are a LOT of other popular snuffs that this board considers marketed-ably better than this one, and that’s cool…I just don’t care for the smoky, cigar-like, fine ground snuff. I love the Poschl Gawith Apricot. It’s moist, nice medium burn with a mild menthol/fruit flavor. So, that said, what else is out there like this? I’m looking for those who LOVE the Poschl Gawith Apricot. What else do you like, and why? -ASOTW
Try Poschl Gawith Cola and Poschl Ozona President.
I agree this is one of the best by Pöschl, but it displays great batch variance. Other interesting german scented menthols could be Bernard’s Fichtennadel and Zwiefacher and Pöschl’s Gletscher and Löwen Prise and Klöster Andechs Spezial-snuff.
ToqueUSA Citrus is lightly mentholated and moistened with oil rather than water. The tobaccos used are stronger than those used by Poschl though. The Berry one is in the same league.
Both Poschl Edelfrucht and Poschl Jubilaums Prise have similar mixes with the whole menthol/fruit thing. Check them out.
Once its poschl, itll always be poschl. Ozona president is great, by tjat I mean GREAT, apricot is great., gletscher is just as great. I tried moving away from poschl, but was disappointed by all else, after 3 years of only poschl, I had come to see poschl as snuff, all others would have to be compared against it. I kinda like qsnuff ice col though, but its in another end of the scale tham poschl.
Thanks for all of the great comments here folks, much appreciated! So far I have this as my next MrSnuff order: Poschl Gawith Cola - 10g Poschl Ozona President - 10g Poschl Gletscherprise - 10g Poschl Lowenprise - 10g Poschl Andechs Spezial - 10g Poschl Edel Frucht - 10g Poschl Jubilaums Prise - 10g -ASOTW
@A_Sniff_on_the_Wind WELCOME TO THE POSCHL FANCLUB! Have a seat and members hat!
@A_Sniff_on_the_Wind have you considered going larger so as to get a better chance of appreciating a particular snuff? I am a huge fan of the Poschl Apricot, matter of fact it is one of the standard items carried by a local tobacco shop near me, where other snuffs tend to come and go. I have tried other apricots but none live up to what Poschl is in character and body.
id say poschl packards club would be one to look out for.
I used to love the poschl apricot and in theory I still do but after a few years of using it, I kinda lost my ability to tolerate the menthol (at least I think its menthol) in it. But I’d say there is a reason it’s such a top seller.
@outlaw: I’d say my problem with it is the batch variance, the grind and the occasional absence of menthol or apricot on some boxes. It’s one of the most irregular snuff there is, and (once I discovered blends like McChrystal’s back in the day) my nose lost its affinity with this and most Pöschls. Menthol causes some swelling in my nose, but Pöschl Menthols are just unbearable to me… A sad thing, because their scenting is sometimes quite well crafted.
You might consider some of Sam Gawith menthols. I have many of them, and though I also love Poschl menthols, I find the Gawith types quite different in character. Deeper tobacco flavor, less ice cold. I enjoy having a good selection of both on hand. My current personal fave is Dr. Verey’s Medicated. Menthol, herbal scents I can’t define, solid wonderful tobacco, and no oil at all. Just moistened with water. Just a thought…
Thanks, manos. I’ll definitely give it a try. Have you also tried the Dr. Verey’s Plus?
Pöschl Johnny Apricot. Some people say it’s just Gawith Apricot made for the Austrian market and others that they’re the same snuff. I personally think that Johnny Apricot is slightly sweeter.
