advice on Brazillan snuff

a friend of mine is taking a trip to Brazil soon. I have heard Brazillan snuff is fantastic, and she is willing to get/find me some. I would like to send her w/more information than ‘Get me some snuff’. Is it common enough to find easily, or, are there speciality stores or such? What are the most common brands? Price? How much is to much to bring back? What is ‘nasal snuff’ called there? this and any other information is much appreciated.

it’s called rape with the little line abovethe e (or the a I forget). I have heard tobacco shops sell it.

Rapé, pronounced “rap-ay” I’ve tried a few, but maybe some of our Brazillian members can give more info. The most common company I’ve seen is Henriques e Casarin, Ltda. They produce a brand called Rapé Moeda in several flavors. I have a few others from some smaller companies. Its hard to determine from the label who the makers are. A few say Guarani, but that is also the town where Rapé Moeda is from. So they could be also made by H&C. Others are Tocantis (again I think another town), and Rapé Tupi. Other brands/companies I have heard of and not tried is Fumo Paulistão Ltda., Rapé Araça, and Caratinga. I’ve no idea on finding them and their costs.

Well, she went, and brought it back 8-> I now have 4 different scents in what i surmise is two different companies- Rape Tupi and Rape Moeda. She had to endure a “bad neighboorhood” for these, although, most of her experiences seemed to be such. I have to say these are excelent IMO. For some reason, they remind me of everything i like about Poschl(which is very little), and a whole lot more.

German snuffs, also Pöschl, often have Brasil Tobacco in their recipes. This is due to the fact, that most Schmalzlers are Brasil Based. Regards Patrick B. Ludwig

Ah, so Poshl takes good tobacco, and ruins it with sickly artifical flavoring, and to much menthol. Sounds logical to me. At least there Schmalzlers are terrific.

The schmalzlers are artificially flavored, even more so than other Poshl snuffs. Not that there is anything wrong with that. If you understand what an artificial flavor is.

Well, anything Poshl, save the Schmalzlers, either stop me up, or make me ill, and i have tried nearly all. I never knew the Schmalzlers were Edit:“artifical flavouring”, must be something in the menthol. Forgive my ignorance.

NOT ARTIFICIAL… only some flavorings added.

Again, forgive my ignorance(or lack of clarification). “Artifical Flavorings”

Being Brazilian myself, my whole experience with snuff so far has been with Brazilian brands. My current favorite is Guarany Mentolado, really fresh menthol with a cinnamon background, and it feels really mellow when it drips down your throat. Delicious. Most of their flavors are really strong and satisfying. Guarany Cravo feels like stuffing cloves directly into your nose, it’s very interesting but gets tiresome after you’ve been snuffing it for a week or so. If you’re looking for a stronger nic hit, I’d strongly suggest Imburana, it comes in a plain metal tin and it’s what keeps me up through college study all-nighters. Really strong stuff (at least to my taste), but I’m not a big fan of the flavor, it just seems a little indistinct to me, like I’m snuffing moist earth. Happy snuffing!
