Advice needed on snuff box

I’ve been offered this snuff box for $265 (includes shipping) should I buy it. Can afford it but don’t need it. Maybe a good investment? many thanks to those with far more experience

As your snuff sponsor. I say offer 35% less. The cap is pretty beat up, is it hallmarked? the cap looks like it has rust, silver don’t rust

Everyone’s taste can be different; personally I think it is ugly and impractical.

Looks like a pewter cap. The price seems a bit high for a horn mull - have you checked UK ebay? These come up from time to time.

I also need some advice. How much on average do you think is worth a box of these? I will pay about $70. It is a fair value?

^I have two similar boxes. The one I got brand new for $30 and the other I got on eBay for like $10. So $70 is a little steep for that style snuffbox

Thanks for the advice! So, better look for another one…

@Rabelo $45 is I high as I would go . that box does looks in fair condition, But they are antique and if you want to own one, pay what you can afford. I seen them sell for hundreds more.

@basement_shaman Yeah, the seller says it is in perfect condition, but the pictures are pretty bad. It is not a priority, i’ll wait for something better and cheaper, it might be better to buy it on E-Bay… Thanks!

This post is old enough I feel it is ok to hijack it. What should one look for in a snuff box? Would I be better off just using/reusing tins? I have a nice metal one that my SG Kendal Banana came in; it’s not too inconvenient of a size or shape. I found a porcelain snuff box shaped and painted like a chipmunk today. I thought it was cool, but I’m trying to force myself to stop buying every shiny thing I see, lol.

I don’t think I could pass up a porcelain chipmunk snuff box if it was practical. Just saying…

I like snuffboxes that have rounded edges on the inside, that way one can get the last bit of snuff.

My untutored suspicion would be that they aren’t stinky. Maybe even if they are, though, they will sweeten with use.
