Hi Anyone got any recommendations for an airtight tape that’s inexpensive and about 10-20mm wide to seal tins with? The Wilsons of Sharrow tins come with a ribbon tape around the join between lid and case, but that soon becomes unusable. I don’t want to put my smaller tins etc. in plastic containers. It spoils the look of the wooden box that I use to keep my everyday snuffs in. I want to open the lid and see a sweet shop! Ed.
I would think that and cello tape or electrical tape (comes in colors) would work you just need to create a flap by folding a small piece of the end for easy removal and replacement
I use vinyl (electrical) tape to seal up my tins
You could use plumber’s Teflon tape on the treads for storage but it be impractical for daily use. a electrical tape over the lid and tin will work for a couple of openings. Seems like a pain to keep unwrapping and rapping a tin every time.
Electrical tape works just fine.I used it for a little while but found it got to be a drag since I am always rotating what I use on a daily basis. Now I only use it on tins that I know its certainly not one of my faves and will only get opened once in a great while just for a bump of something different. Be careful though and only use it on tins that are already pretty well sealed, the smell of the tape and its adhesive can and will penetrate and ruin the snuff if its a poorly sealed tin to begin with. Im the same way with my snuffs,I love to see everything nicely and neatly displayed not wrapped up in baggies or in tupperware containers.Im quite proud of the collection I have amassed in a fairly short period of time.
I heard “Space Bags” know about this problem and are working on the solution and mini vacuum that is hand operated. But seriously if you take a small freezer ziplock bag, put your can it, close it til it only has a small opening left to seal. At this point, suck all the air out and finish sealing
I use electrical tape. Most of my snuffs were untouched for two years and are in almost perfect condition…a bit of flavour degradation on the Indian snuffs and heavy menthols, but otherwise no problems at all.
Right, electrical tape it is.
