Popped over to The Black Swan Shoppe today to pick up some tins of McCrystals just as Kris was opening the box and managed to blag myself a free calander. Love it. (Nearly as much as the Mild Lemon, Hopfen Shnupf, S.P. and JIP that I picked up!)
Nice!
What a great feeling it would be to walk into a proper tobacconist!
Tell me about it! It’s a joy. Great advice and good banter.
Wished we had that in Canada
Score!
Yeah, if I was living within driving distance of that place, that would be swell. I’d settle if they would just take my money and send some snuff to the states.
Like the paraphernalia!
If they could, I’m sure they would. What business wouldn’t shift stock if they could? Especially in the current economic climate?
During a trip to Denver, I decided to hunt down some snuff in an upscale wine/tobacco shop. The two young gentleman, hardly older than I looked at me like I was a madman when I asked for snuff. They pulled out a box of Silver Dollar that looked like I was the first to ever buy from. Wish more people my age took snuff!
There is solution to this!
You all make the move to Scarborough were the sun shines all year round, the beer is cheap and the women are plentiful (i’m not bullshitting honest) and i’ll blag some free McChrystals calendars for you all!
Dang, backyshop, that sounds like “Big Rock Candy Mountain”…I’m coming out!!!
It’s all true!
Looks like a spectacular place. Warm summers (well, that’s relative I guess) and cool winters. Sounds like my kind of place.
@nightcap : I second that… Every tobacconist I’ve been to out here in my area, has just not been what I expected. Except one woman out in Langley. She actually knew about snuff, and we had a good chat about that, it was pretty cool. Unfortunately, no snuff .
I would LOVE to get a calender in my next Mr.Snuff order
In the U.S.A. only FDA approved snuffs can legally be sold. That is why you won’t find it. The Silver Dollar line from Toque and I think the Dark Horse snuffs and it seems like maybe W.E. Garrett have been approved. There was mention that Wilsons of Sharrow was going to make some effort towards getting approvals. Poschl has pulled out of the U.S. completely. You may find others here and there, maybe legal, maybe not. Some stores may not know or care for the law but they certainly won’t be able to get any more after they sell out.
So wilson’s will be FDA approved?
O I hope so. That’s probably 90% of the snuff I use
You can buy Wilson’s in the US.
Not all of the stores listed on the following link will carry snuff. But some will.
Sorry @Slide that lists last update was in December 2001. It may be that some of those stores have old stock.
Sorry about the old list. I know one shop in Springfield, MO gets Wilsons but they said it was hard to get. And they don’t stock a lot of varieties. They had a new shipment come in while I was there. And I think Mr. Nose’s shop stocks some British snuffs. I’ll let him address that.
Now they could very well be getting it the same way I do. From Mr. Snuff. You’ve been at this longer than me I will defer to your knowledge.
Yes, my shop, The Albatross, in Springfield, MO does carry English snuffs. Currently, we carry Wilson’s, Fribourg & Treyer, McCrystal’s, Gawith & Hoggarth (in the 25g tubs, btw) and a tiny selection of Samuel Gawith that I am hoping to expand soon.
I’m not surprised that the Sheffield Exchange does not have an updated list. I’ve tried to set up an account with them, but they don’t seem to be terribly interested in getting my business.
Mr. Nose the next time I’m through Springfield I’ll stop in and introduce myself. On my last trip my free night happened to be one of the nights your shop is closed.
@Mr. Nose … GH!!! Stateside!!! 25g tubs, not (cr)tap boxes!!! … there is hope yet. next time i am in MO … be heading to springfield. Nice! Next to Whiskey and Honey, GH’s Irish D is my only other “must not be without” snuff …
Just noticed the large tins of McCrystals are on the Black Swan Shoppe website, I’m sure a few people mentioned wanting smaller tins before bulk buying.
Sadly the prices of the 200g have been forced up, but still good value…
So what’s the story behind the price rise.
Apparently it was requested by mccrystals.
I bought something like 60 200g tubs just before the price doubled. I guessed his prices would increase. Still the cheapest on the net though.
I did think it strange that they where so much cheaper than mcrystals own website. They still are.
