hello @all, I’ve just noticed, there’s a new swiss made snuff. I’ve not tried it yet, but the description sounds pretty interesting… http://www.smoking-trends.ch/tabak24-p4073h250s251-Schnupftabak-A-S.html lurker n.

Interesting, indeed. Handmade it says; so another small maker enters the ring. Nice to hear. Its also about time we got a proper Swiss made snuff out there. As far as I can tell the other snuffs we associate with Switzerland are made elsewhere.

The only negative seems to be that they don’t accept credit card payments for snuff or any other tobacco leaf products. No idea why not. Presumably the same problem as with UK tobacconists.

Here is translation from of description from German ( confirms can’t be paid by Credit Card on the bottom ) Snuff A & S Scope of delivery description Box à 10gr Cinnamon / vanilla / menthol aroma – made in Switzerland This snuff is made by hand in Basel and bottled. Tobaccos, as well as essential oils and Oriental balms serve as raw materials high-quality overseas import. The recipe goes back to snuff, as they were produced until a good hundred years ago in pharmacies. Initially it was produced for cigars by Dr. Cyril andenmatten in very small amounts for the narrow circle of friends of old, no longer rau…chbaren. He developed the recipe after he became the new owner of Baldwin apotheke in Basel in the year 2000, and it came across old literature on snuff. The sales should change but only in a small circle, as Thomas Schaad in his last WK was. Known at that time as Baldwin snuff . This snuff won his service comrades quickly popular and quite a few said they would purchase happy this product in the trade. Back in the civilian life, a business idea, which ultimately the brand A + S was Swiss snuff it flourished. This product can not be paid with credit cards. Please use advance payment, cash on delivery or cash by mail!

Oh… For a second you had me thinking that maybe Abraham & Straus (a department store chain started in New York City and on Long Island) started selling their own brand of snuff.

Hello @AANYCAARDS! I hope you don’t mind, if I try to correct your translation a little bit. This snuff is made and filled by hand in Basel, Switzerland. Ingredients are high-quality tobaccos from overseas, as well as essential oils and oriental balms. The recipe was inspired by snuff tobaccos, wich were produced in pharmacies until about a hundred years ago. Initially it was made of old, dryed-out cigars by Dr. Cyril Andenmatten, exclusively for his good friends. He developed the recipe after he became the new owner of Blaesi-Apotheke, a pharmacy in Basel in the year 2000, and he came across old literature on snuff. When his good friend Thomas Schaad went for his last military service, he took a few tins of this “Blaesi-snuff” with him. This snuff grew popular by his fellow soldiers very quickly and many of them said, they’d love to pay money for it. Back in the civilian life, a business idea soon became the brand A+S Swiss Snuff.

Hi @Thomas‌ I live in Switzerland (Valais). Where can I buy your snuff? Thanks.

T

@SnuffySnuff‌ The only dealer in VS, as far as I know, is Tabagie Raucher-u. Geschenkstube Saltinaplatz 1 3902 Glis. You could also order it from most swiss online-tobaccoshops. Something we’d appreciate very much, would be, you go to your favourite dealer and ask him, if he would order some A+S for you. Just give him this e-mail adress: info@as-tabak.ch

Thank you @Thomas

This is actually pretty awesome. The Swiss are die hard snuff takers but other than the former government monopoly snuff, have produced few themselves. Its even more awesome that the Swiss are entering into the snuff renaissance as a small time cottage industry like Abraxas and SWS. Long may it continue! and I hope other small timers (worldwide) commercialise their products soon.
