does anyone know of any web pages where you can see historic snuff factories or inside of new ones? i’m curious as to what goes on inside.
Only video I have seen is of the Pöschl snuff mill, which you can find by typing the company name into google.
There was one on the Wilsons of Sharrow website, but I can’t seem to find it now. They do have an image gallery though. http://www.sharrowmills.com
Hello saucy_jack, Look for www.snuifmolens.nl then go to the English part and click the button introduction. There you get an article with pictures about the snuff windmills in Rotterdam-Kralingen. Jaap Bes.

Yes, thank you, Red Star. That is the one I was talking about. I don’t know why Wilson’s took it off their site. Its fun to see that old machinery in action. I’ve worked on a lot of old (40 years tops) machinery in my life. I know it takes a lot of patience and maintenance. I can not imagine how many quirks 200 year old machines must have.
On the Pöschl website, there are pictures of their equipment and descriptions. Right now it’s only in German, but at the end of the month it should be in English.
maybe they will finally explain what Columbia Oil is by then.
Good luck with that one. Maybe that’s what gives my sinuses the instant shut-down. Gletscher Prise is the only Pöschl that has that much of an effect.
I don’t get the shut down, I just hack and cough and spit for 10 minutes. Gawith Apricot does it to me the worst, Gletschterprise I haven’t tried in a month or three though. Perhaps its time to remind myself about it. I think its actualy some kind of palm oil or nut oil that grows in South America. I guess we just don’t use the same name in English. A lot of German stuff makes no sense if you translate it literally.
My bet is that it’s lard.
Not sure if they put lard in their snuffs, but I believe they do put it in their Schmalzlers.
Not since 1914. At least Bernard. They replaced it with margarine then. Don´t know how long they use paraffin oil, but both Pöschl and Bernard do these days.
I don’t think I’ll buy Poschl and Bernard products again if they are adding mystery oils. It may explain why they clog me up and any residue running past my sinuses makes me hack up! Lowenprise is the worst for that for me.
I’m sure more companies put “mystery” ingredients in their snuffs than we would like to think.
Nope. I unknowingly ordered a 25g instead of 10g.
Anyone got a sixpence stuck up their nose?
Yeah me! It wasnt a sixpence though. And I also wasnt snuffing at that time. And i was five. But still me, what do i win?
